This essay examines middle school students? understanding of a text read aloud to them in English and the connection between the degree of listening comprehension and the expected increase of vocabulary throughout middle school. The same listening comprehension test was carried out in grades 4, 5 and 6 in a middle school in order to survey differences in English listening comprehension in regard to the ability to reproduce the content of an oral text. The result shows that there was a progression from level to level when it comes to comprehension and the number of words reproduced and that this progression was most noticeable between grades 4 and 5..

The aim of this paper has been to examine to what extent it has been possible for Patricia Crampton, translator of Ronia, the Robber?s Daughter, to capture and cling to the very personal style in which Astrid Lindgren writes. I also wanted to find out if any adaptations of the text were made and, if any, how they have affected the tone of the book. To fulfil this purpose a thorough comparison of the original text and the translation has been made. In this essay there will be four text books from grade 1 studied, the first one are from the year 1976 and it will be going forward to the year 2012. The aim of this study is to see how the genders are depicted and represented, as well as what roles the genders are given. I do also want to see if there is a notable change in this over time. I will be doing a study based on the quantity of the contents, and I will also be doing a critical discourse analysis.The result of the study showed that there were more gender-based constructions that referred to women in all of the four books, which indicates that women are represented more often in these reading books. In this essay, I make a queer feminist analysis of Mats Strandberg?s and Sara Bergmark Elfgren?s teenage novel ?Cirkeln?, which is about six teenage girls who learn that they are witches with a mission to save the world from demons. Using Judith Butler's theories, I examine the norms of sex/gender, ethnicity, class and sexuality found in the text and how these standards are created. I also analyze whether, and if so how, these standards may change when the magical elements enter the text.I also discuss the fact that older Gothic novels with magical elements often have been regarded as queer through history. .

I denna studie studeras tio barnbilderböcker ur ett genusperspektiv. Denna studie syftar till attundersöka i barnbilderböcker av Elsa Beskow och Gunilla Bergström hur flickor och pojkar gestaltas.Syftet är att studera och jämföra om det finns likheter eller skillnader i hur de gestaltar flickor ochpojkar och i så fall vad för likheter och skillnader det finns.Undersökningen genomförs genom en kvalitativ text- och bildanalys för att besvara syfte ochfrågeställningarna. De studerade böckerna av Beskow är skrivna i början av 1900-talet och de studeradeböckerna av Bergström är skrivna i slutet av 1900-talet.Resultatet av denna studie visar att det finns många skillnader på hur flickor och pojkar gestaltas ochatt de traditionella könsrollerna som är tydliga i Beskows böcker inte är lika framträdande i Bergströmsböcker.
