Unit testing is a type of testing technique which is becoming quite fashionable to the developers and companies that are in the business of creating and managing software. Alas there are seldom any concrete data to support the positive claims of the authors in unit testing methodology books. These claims are instead based on empirical studies and the experience of the authors. The problem that arises from this situation is that it becomes problematic for managers and also the developers themselves to convince both customers and their own management to use this type of testing as there is no exact return of investment model. This essay examines this problem from two points, the first point is from the literature itself and interviews conducted with a number of developers at a software company located in Umea, Sweden.

I många processindustrier är det viktigt att kunna mäta processvätskors egenskaper på ett bra sätt. Detta går att göra på olika vis. Företaget Acosense AB producerar och säljer ett instrument för att analysera processvätskors egenskaper. Denna metod är en onlineanalys som baseras på aktiv akustisk spektroskopi. Onlineanalysen fungerar på så sätt att en ljudsignal med olika frekvenser skickas genom ett rör där processvätskan strömmar genom.

Stora Enso Hylte Bruk är ett tidningspappersbruk beläget i Hyltebruk.De fyra pappersmaskinerna startades 1972(PM1), 1974(PM2), 1976(PM3) och1989(PM4).Produktionen 2005 från dessa pappersmaskiner var 800 000 ton papper.För att tillverka papper åtgår stora mängder energi i form av värme och el, HylteBruk gjorde 2005 av med 1 % av Sveriges totala elenergibehov.Den 1/7 2004 höjdes processrelaterad elskatt från 0 till 0,5 öre/kWh vilket leddefram till den lag som trädde i kraft den 1/1 2005, ?lag om program förenergieffektivisering? (PFE)1.Ändamålet är att främja en effektiv energianvändning och ger energiintensivindustri möjlighet att delta i ett 5-årigt program för energieffektivisering. Deföretag som är kvalificerade att ingå i programmet och klarar av de krav som ställsbefrias från elskatten.Som en del av det här programmet ingår att utarbeta en lista medelenergieffektiviseringar som ska överlämnas till Statens Energimyndighet.Detta examensarbete kan efter beslut av ansvariga på Hylte Bruk ingå som en delav denna lista.Syftet med examensarbetet var att undersöka effektiviteten hos tolv pumpar påPM2 genom mätning av effekt, flöde och tryck. En del av dessa har varit i drift iupp till 32 år, under denna tid har slitage skett, vissa pumpar har gått mot delvisstängda ventiler samt förutsättningarna i form av produktion har ändrats sedan dedimensionerades.För alla de berörda pumparna kan en effektivisering göras, den kan bestå av: lägretryckhöjd, mindre flöde, pump med bättre verkningsgrad, eller en kombination avovanstående exempel.De förslag som har en återbetalningstid kortare än tre år ger tillsammans enenergibesparing på 1 375 000 kWh/år, vilket motsvarar mer än ¼ av vadpumparna förbrukar idag.Om istället alla de förslagen som är framarbetade och genomförbara skullerealiseras kan energibesparingen ökas ytterligare till 2 302 000 kWh/år, dettaskulle dock innebära en större investeringskostnad vilket resulterar i en längreåterbetalningstid..

As an amateur it can be difficult filming from several angles at the same time as this requires several cameras. It´s also hard to film at occasions when it´s not appropriate to manoeuvre the camera manually. Systems for solving these problems already exist, but it´s either more expensive, professionalsystems or cheaper systems with limited functionality.The purpose of this project is to develop a cost efficient solution to the problem above that offers a better functionality then existing commercial systems. The biggest difference from existing products is the wireless video feedback from the camera to the remote unit.The result of the project is a system consisting of two units, a manoeuvre unit with a cradle for the video camera and a remote unit from which the operator can control pan and tilt of the video camera.Communication between the two units is wireless.On the remote unit there is a joystick and a display mounted. In addition to this, there is also an IR receiver that is capable of reading the signal from the cameras own remote and sending it to the manoeuvre unit.The manoeuvre unit is equipped with one motor to control the tilt function and one motor to control the pan.

Forest management plans have been sold to private forest owners by wood supplying companies for a long time. These plans are considered to be effi-cient tools to identify measures and wood volumes, and are simply a starting point for discussions between private forest owners and round wood pur-chasers. However, large variations are observed between different purchas-ers, in their usage of the plans. The purpose of this report is to identify to what extent a forest management plan can promote an increase in the amount of wood which a round wood purchaser can obtain and to find differences in the way of using the plans between different wood purchasers. Furthermore, the purpose is also to ana-lyse if varying owner structures can be underlie variations in the selling of forest management plans. Qualitative interviews with nine of Stora Enso?s round wood purchasers were performed.

Papperskoncernen Stora Enso har sedan år 2002 påbörjat arbetet med en process förkostnadseffektivisering. Konceptet benämns Stora Enso Shared Service (SESS). Skalfördelarska fås genom att funktioner hos dotterbolagen flyttas till gemensamma Service Center.Enheter som lyfts ur är framförallt administrativa tjänster där varje center ansvarar för enspecifik administrativ tjänst. Vad som sker är alltså i grund och botten encentraliseringsprocess.Hur påverkar då denna centralisering dotterbolaget? Kommer processen att påverkadotterbolagens självbestämmanderätt (autonomi) och entreprenörsanda (initiativförmåga)?Stora Ensos koncernledning vill dra nytta av skalfördelar och på så sätt kostnadseffektivisera.Men de vill samtidigt inte att detta skall påverka dotterbolagen negativt.

Sammanslagningar över Östersjön har aldrig varit så populära som de har varit under 1990-talet. Sverige och Finland är två grannländer som kan uppfattas lika som bär, om man tittar längre bort från Asien, men ändå så slutar samarbetet oftast med besvikelse. Den största anledningen till att samarbetena inte fungerar brukar vara att deras kulturer skiljer sig åt. Svenskarna är lagspelare som tycker om att diskutera och komma fram till genomtänkta beslut medan deras kallprat är något som frustrerar de finska kusinerna på andra sidan av havet. Där är man gärna effektiv och tar snabba, mer riskfyllda beslut och har ett betydligt mer auktoritärt sätt att styra.

This final thesis is carried out at BAE Systems Hägglunds in Örnsköldsvik. The mission was to construct and integrate a new semi-active damping unit in the terrain vehicle BvS10. Questions that came up during the process, among others, was how to mount the damping unit to the vehicle in a flexible way without exposing it to unnecessary wears.A generation of the concept is made in 3D using CATIA V5 of a possible solution to the problem. The idea is to weld the unit to the skid girder which is one of the main constructions of the track system. In this way the damping unit will come closer to the track system, which will partly protect it from impacts from below and minimize current problems with breaking forces in the torsion shafts.The complete construction was then analyzed, first by theoretical calculations and then with the FEM-tools in CATIA V5.

Det här examensarbetet inom Maskiningenjörsprogrammet på Karlstad universitet har utförts på Linde Material Handling AB i Örebro. Arbetet inleddes med att en kundundersökning utfördes genom en enkät till personal på Stora Enso Skoghall. Enkäten innehöll relevanta frågor om hur kunden upplever sina truckar från Linde, hur service och underhåll fungerar, samt hur de skulle vilja förbättra truckarna inför framtiden.Utifrån kundundersökning hos Stora Enso uppdagades det bl.a. att hydrauliken i klämaggregatet går för långsamt och att detta är ett störande moment som medför irritation bland truckförarna. Frågeställningen blev, hur väl anpassat klämaggregatet är till truckens hydrauliska funktion utifrån dagens krav på klämkraft och fart.

The project was performed at SiemensIndustry Drive Technologies with theobjective to provide actual values forthe energy savings potential withinSiemens scope of practice.In Sweden the electrical drives standfor about 30 % of the total electricityconsumption and about 60 % of theelectricity consumption within theindustry. During the pre-study phaseelectrical drives with pump applicationswere identified as large energy users.Because of this a case study at one ofSiemens customers, Stora Enso Fors wasperformed. The system that was evaluatedduring the case study was a throttledsystem with a centrifugal pump forpumping pulp.The results yielded that a saving ofover 50 % could be achieved by replacingthe throttle valve with a variable speeddrive, a frequency converter. Thepayback period was two years and twomonths and the present value for thetotal life cycle cost of the variablespeed system was 662.566 SEK lower thanfor the throttled system. As aconsequence, Stora Enso Fors is advisedto invest in a frequency converter forregulation of the system.The general conclusion is that a focuson system efficiency is the mostimportant factor in energy efficiencyprojects and that the system regulationmethod has a large impact on the overallsystem losses and hence its efficiency.Energy efficiency potential forthrottled systems with centrifugal pumpsis large and significant economicalsavings can be made through investmentswith short payback time..
