The purpose with this paper is to examine if tertiary education and democracy have an impact on economic growth. In order to decide how democratic the examined countries are the democracy index constructed by The Economist is used. Besides the two central theories the purpose is also to explain why these variables could affect growth and to examine direct and indirect effects. Indirect effects mean that one variable affects another variable which thereafter has an impact on economic growth.34 OECD countries are compared in order to investigate whether education and democracy are strongly correlated with BNP per capita. Therefore a statistical design is used as method.The empirical results suggest that there is significant correlation between democracy and economic growth.

Syfte: En komparativ studie och beskriva möjligheterna för att skapa en effektiv portfölj av olika aktieportföljer, där det undersöks om faktorerna som företagens omsättningsstorlek, branschen de är aktiva i och valet att ha utländska aktier, har betydelse eller inte för att skapa en effektiv portfölj med hänsyn till dess korrelation, avkastning och risk. Metod: Uppsatsen utgår från en kvantitativ studie, som sträcker sig från april 2008 till april 2010, då historiska aktiekurspriser används för olika sorters uträkningar, som baseras på uppsatsens huvudteorier; CAPM, Sharpekvot och portföljteori. Utgångspunkten är deduktiv, där slutsatserna har dragits från teorierna.       Slutsats: Utifrån uträkningarna, kunde det inte dras generella slutsatser där de undersökta faktorerna inte utmärkte sig i något mönster. Däremot visade sig att det blev högre avkastning till liknande risk eller lägre risk till liknade avkastning när man väljer aktier som är olika varandra, då korrelationen inte samvarierar. Det bästa resultatet är när utländska aktier blandas in i portföljen.    .

In Sweden, grass is the single largest crop grown. Nearly 1 000 000 Ha grows on the fields, this is primarily used as feed for livestock. To get a good seed, you need to handle the crop carefully from planting to delivery. The part that I have been interested in, is how to dry the harvested seed with out destroying the growth in the small seed. This is very easily done if you aren?t careful during the drying period.

Flera svenska kommuner använder sig av den amerikanska professorn Richard Floridas teori om den kreativa klassen och ?creative cities? i sin marknadsföring. Syftet med mitt kandidatarbete är att undersöka om svenska kommuner är kreativa enligt Floridas teori. En jämförande fallstudie har gjorts där tre kommuner som använder sig av Florida i sin marknadsföring har undersökts. Kommunerna är Södertälje, Botkyrka och Ronneby.

Bakgrund Det finns ännu inga etablerade officiella gränsvärden för övervikt och fetma som är baserade på proportionen fettmassa (FM%) utan de gränsvärden som finns är utgår body mass index (BMI) eller midjemått.Syfte Att utveckla modeller för att prediktera FM, procentuellt och i kg, utifrån antropometriska mått hos unga och medelålders (20-49 år) svenska män. Vidare syftar uppsatsen till att undersöka vilka värden för FM% som motsvarar 25 kg/m2 och 30 kg/m2 i BMI och samt för 94 cm och 102 cm i midjemått.Metod Männen har rekryterats med hjälp av en mödravårdscentral, kvinnohälsan, i Linköping i samband med ett projekt om utveckling av barnfetma. Totalt 136 män undersöktes med Bod Pod, en maskin som mäter kroppssammansättning med hög validitet. Vidare mättes antropometriska mått såsom vikt, längd och midjemått vid mättillfället.Resultat Regressionsmodellerna med midjemått och BMI (r=0,94) samt midjemått (r=0,94) var de som var signifikant högst korrelerade till FM (kg). De regressionsmodellerna som förklarade mest av variansen i FM% var de med 1) M/L (midja/längd), midjemått och BMI 2) M/L och 3) midjemått som oberoende variabler (r=0,86-0,88).

The purpose of this paper is to apply the Dual-Effect hypothesis in Pritmani, Shome and Singal paper (2003), in order to analyze the exchange rate exposure on firms listed on the U.K. market. The study will examine if the foreign involvement of the firm will affect the share price of the firm.In addition to evaluating the Dual-Effect hypothesis in Pritmani et. al. (2003), we will evaluate the effect of foreign interest rates impact on U.K.

The aim of this pilotstudy was to compare the plaqueformation during four weeks in individuals using a mouthrinse containing either essential oils (Listerine Cool Mint) or CPC (Colgate Total) as a complement to their ordinary toothbrushing. Another purpose was to evaluate the individual?s experiences regarding taste and sensation in the mouth after rinsing. A semiblind, clinical pilotstudy was conducted in 20 individuals at a university in southern Sweden. According to a screening-plaqueindex the individuals were stratified into two intervention-groups of ten people, one group rinsing with essential oils and one group with CPC twice daily as a complement to their toothbrushing routine.

Höftledsdysplasi (HD) är en i raden av genetiska sjukdomar hos våra hundar Det är en ärftlig sjukdom som främst finns hos storvuxna raser och ger en felaktig utveckling av höftleden som ger upphov till förslitning av brosket i höftleden med benpålagringar som följd. Trots avelsprogram fortsätter höftledsdysplasin att vara den mest vanliga ortopediska sjukdomen hos våra hundar. Höftledsdysplasin karaktäriseras som överdriven slapphet i ledkapseln och dess ligament, samt att ledkulan inte är normalt placerad i leden. Dagens graderingssystem som används är inte tillräckligt för att kunna stoppa sjukdomens framfart. Därför utvecklas nu ett HD-index som inte bara tar hänsyn till individens egna HDstatus utan även dess släktingar. Det är inte bara genetiken som styr uttrycket av HD. Även miljöfaktorer har inverkan på om tillståndet uttrycks samt i vilken allvarlighetsgrad. Diet och motion har därför visat sig ha betydelse för sjukdomens utveckling.

With the increasing costs in concentrate the importance in producing ensilage with a high quality is becoming more and more important. To succeed with this goal it is of importance not only to harvest in the right period, but also to be able to store the ensilage without a decrease in quality and nutrional values. To maintain a good ensilage the covering of the ensilage must be carefully made. An unsuccessful covering causes mould to grow in the ensilage, which both increases the work load and also increases the amount of feed which is wasted. A bigger amount of spoiled feed also increases the risk of feeding spoiled feed to the cattle.

Studien avser att studera effekterna av arbetsplatsförlagd fysisk träning 2 x 60 minuter/vecka i 7 veckor hos personer med stillasittande arbete påVO2max, rörlighet, uthållighetsstyrka och kroppssammansättning. Vi använder oss av en kvantitativ metod som består av datainsamling genom tester före och efter träningsperioden för både interventionsgruppen (n=25) och kontrollgruppen (n=11). Resultaten visar på signifikanta skillnader hos interventionsgruppen på variablerna VO2max (p=0), visceralt fett (p=0,001), fettmassa (p=0,001), vikt (p=0.006), Body Mass Index, BMI (p=0,005), uthållighetsstyrka enligt Sörensens isometriska uthållighetstest (SIU) (p=0) och Trunk Curl Static Endurance test (TCST) (p=0,045), rörlighet i halsrygg (p=0,010) och rörlighet i hamstringsmuskulatur via Sit and reach test (p=0).  Inga skillnader ses i blodtryck och, skelettmuskelmassa i armar, bål och ben. Inga signifikanta skillnader ses hos kontrollgruppen oavsett variabel. Slutsatser av studien är att man kan se effekter genom denna typ av intervention på flera olika variabler och förslag till framtida forskning är att försöka utesluta samverkan av andra faktorer för att ge en mer exakt bild av den fysiska träningens effekter på arbetsplatsförlagd träning..

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to describe and analyse the development of the public and the study circle libraries in the district of Kolbäck during the period of 1913-1954. The factors important for the library development described in sub-questions are: financing, locality, staffing, stock of books, book-lending level and uniting district effects. I use a hermeneutic interpretation model of interaction between the parts and the wholes, between reasons and results. This research leans mainly upon material which is sent to be deposited in archives in Hallstahammar, Västerås and Grängesberg.

The purpose of this essay is to review the Swedish international development cooperation carried out by Sida to control whether the implementation of the international aid is compatible with the policy. There are a lot of different ways to implement the economic aid that are being used by the donors today. The Swedish method has since the 1960s mainly been focused on attempting to diminish the poverty in the world. In the latest time another goal has been added, that is a focus on supporting the civil rights. This essay will be concentrated to aim on what kind of countries receiving aid from Sweden, and exactly why these countries are being chosen.The main question of this essay is: What countries are receiving the international developing aid, and how can this distribution be understood? To answer the main question there are two themes in the essay:? What kind of countries is supposed to receive developing aid from Sweden according to the policy?? What kind of countries is receiving the aid, and how can this be understood?This essay is mainly based on quantitative data obtained from Sida, together with index of corruption and poverty will the different types of Swedish cooperation countries be described.The conclusions of this essay are that there are two objectives of the policy: to fight poverty, and to strengthen the civil rights.

The purpose of this essay ("Gateway to the Past. An archaeological quality controlled subject gateway as a resource for higher education in Lund") is to examine how a quality controlled subject gateway could increase the quality of the information supply for the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at Lund University. The essay gives a brief background to subject gateways and also describes the Department and its subjects (prehistoric archaeology, medieval archaeology, osteology and classical studies) . The essay consists of a questionnaire distributed to parts of the target group as well as an investigation of three particular subject gateways: NordArk, ARGE and The Labyrinth. The essay also contains an exposition of how archaeologists seek information, of the structure of the archaeological subjects and of classification systems for quality controlled subject gateways.

Sömnproblem har stadigt ökat i befolkningen och är idag ett folkhälsoproblem. Kognitiv beteendeterapi (KBT) har visat sig vara en effektiv behandlingsform vid dessa problem. Syfte: Utvärdera en sömnskola, utformad enligt en modell med grund i KBT. Metod: 12 personer med insomnia deltog i studien. Sömnskolan omfattade 6 grupptillfällen under 10 veckor.
