SUMMARY This pilot study tried to answer the question however the present animal welfare regulations for horses regarding lying hall area requirements are adequate for horses older than 24 months. The study was carried out at one of the largest stud farms for standard bred horses in Sweden. Mares in late pregnancy with an initial mean age of 10 years was used in a behaviour study. The influence of varying space per animal in a loose-housing system on behaviours like the horses' lying hall use, standing, resting, moving behaviour and threats was studied. The behaviour at three different horse densities ? 18 mares, 13 mares and 8 mares (7.4 m2, 10.3 m2 and 16.7 m2 per mare, respectively) ? was recorded by use of video.

When the city of Umeå developed their platform, they identified decision makers and investors as one of four important target groups.The aim of this study is to explore the portrayed image of the city of Umeå in two Swedish trade journals which addresses the specific target group decition makers and investors in both public and private sector. The aim is also to compare the image of Umeå in the two papers, to the ambition of the municipality, expressed in the brand platform.In order to make the observations as firmly established as possible, the method of the study is a combination of a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative text analysis. The study draws on the theories of Eli Avraham and Philip Kotler, concerning how to improve city images and how to market a specific city among others. The study shows that the city of Umeå in large extent is portrayed in accordance to the ambition which the municipality expressed in the brand platform.Umeå is displayed as an expanding city.

I denna studie undersöks hur smak, status och klass uttrycks i reality-TV-programmen Färjan (Kanal 5) och Danspalatset Playa del Sol (TV3). I program som dessa får vi följa människor som åker på kryssningar, semestrar och shoppar, alltmedan vi förväntas skratta åt dem. De ämnen som dessa program behandlar är tätt förbundna med en förståelse av klass. Syftet med denna uppsats är således att belysa klassaspekter och smakhierarkier. Vidare kommer representationen av smak diskuteras i relation till klass och status. Utifrån denna förståelse av klass som relaterat till smak och status skall sedan klasspositionering i programmen undersökas.

Uppsatsen syftar till att undersöka svenska ungdomars motiv till att emigrera till andra länder i världen, där resesyftet inte är arbete, studie eller relation - relaterat. För att skapa en grund till undersökningen så har sekundär data i form av en rapport från SOM-institutet vid Göteborg Universitet analyserats, där statistik och fakta på svensk emigration under de senaste decennierna presenteras. Med detta som bakgrund har vi sedan gjort en kvalitativ undersökning genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med fem olika respondenter som alla har spenderat en tid utomlands utan att ha rest med arbete, studier eller en relation som motiv. Det vi menade att ta reda på genom att intervjua respondenterna var kortfattat deras motiv till emigration, med frågor som om hur idén uppstod, vilka andra drivkrafter fanns samt vilka mål och förväntningar respondenterna hade och om dessa uppfylldes. Det vi har fått fram har sedan ställts mot teorier på bland annat resemotiv, emigration, mobilitet samt den resandens identitet.Resultatet vi fick fram från den sekundära datan visade att Sverige likt resten av världen är på väg in i en emigrations-era och att vi likt många andra nordiska länder har en stigande siffra vad det gäller emigration, och att denna siffra till stor del består av unga personer.

This study aims to examine the way of teaching swim lessons. In addition, the study also examines the actual swimming proficiency of pupils in the 9th grade in different areas in Sweden.These are the question specifics which this study wishes to examine.How do teachers define the ability to swim?How do swim lessons differ, regarding to which area they are conducted in? How many of the 9th grade pupils in each examined community passes the bar for swimming proficiency?What does PE teachers do if one or several of the 9th grade pupils fails to show an adequate swimming proficiency?How do results in swimming proficiency differ regarding to different schools in different parts of the country?MethodThis study consists of two major surveys, one based on material gathered from qualitative interviews and the other on material gathered from observations. Four PE teachers and one swimming instructor were interviewed, as well as six different 9th grade classes, with a total of 145 pupils. In the observation the pupils participated in a swim test, where they should swim 200 meters from which 50 meters must be on their back and were categorized in three categories.

Introduction: Approximately one in eight women suffer from postpartum depression, which can affect them for a period of weeks or even years. Postpartum depression does not only affect the mother, it also has a negative influence on the rest of the family. Postpartum depression can also lead to negative consequences for the development of the infant. It is an illness that is still considered a taboo, a fact that makes it hard to identify among women who are affected. Aim: The aim of the study was to examine cases where there is a connection between social economic status (SES) and the presence of postpartum depression.

What is the relation between literature and philosophy and what can we learn from it? Is there something about the novel and its language, fiction and narrative that separates it from philosophical litterature? In what way is knowledge about this useful to us, and is it possible to use fiction for the understanding of philosophy?This study makes an attempt to shed some light on the by no means obviuos distinction between philosophy and literature. The aim is to understand what, if in fact there is something that separates philosophy from literature, there is about the distinction that makes it possible for us to separate the ideas in literature from philosophical ideas, and in what way we can use the novel, or fiction in its widest meaning, to understand philosophy. When teaching philosophy you´re often required to make the abstract tangible. But if there´s a misconception about the distinction in what makes philosophical literature philosophical, then maybe there is something to learn from literature, or, at least, something about the fiction and its aesthetics, that makes it easier for us to relate to and understand, for example, the theories that are debated in moral philosophy.There are some philosophers who have used the form of fiction to make their thoughts on philosophical questions understandable.

Detta är en kvalitativ studie som syftar till att uppmärksamma de konstruerade bilder som finns av personer som säljer sexuella tjänster samt hur dessa förhåller sig till varandra och påverkar det sociala arbetet. Undersökningen belyser tre olika perspektiv; sexsäljares, yrkesverksammas inom socialt arbete och samhällets. Genom intervjuer lyfts tankar, känslor och attityder fram kring vad det kan innebära att sälja sexuella tjänster. Sammanlagt har elva personer medverkat i studien varav fem har personlig erfarenhet av att sälja sexuella tjänster och sex personer har erfarenhet av arbete med prostitutionsfrågor inom socialt arbete. För att belysa de olika konstruktionerna utifrån ett samhällsperspektiv har artiklar och litteratur i anknytning till ämnet studerats.

I dagens moderna Sverige finns det en hel bransch som har lyckats hålla borta en väldigt stor grupp av potentiella anställda. Denna grupp är kvinnor och branschen är byggbranschen. Syftet med uppsatsen är att studera och belysa föreställningar kring kvinnliga byggmålare i en mansdominerad miljö, detta för att det finns föreställningar som skapar problem för kvinnors deltagande och tillträde till byggbranschen.Intervjuerna med fem kvinnliga byggmålare gav mig möjlighet att få en inblick i kvinnors slutna värld i byggbranschen, vad de själva tycker och tänker om sitt arbete och byggbranschen i stort.Genusperspektivet är en viktig del av arbetet eftersom genus är något alla människor förhåller sig till på ett eller annat sätt och som påverkar situationen i denna bransch.Kvinnorna som arbetar i byggbranschen har ett arbete de trivs med men bakom de glada tonerna så blir de fortfarande utsatta för skämt och uppmärksammas negativt ur det faktum att de är kvinnor. Kvinnorna diskuterar de fysiska problemen men pratar ännu mer om frågor som är kopplade till den psykosociala arbetsmiljön De känner sig inte uppskattade på samma sätt som deras manliga kollegor gör. Den hårda jargongen gör att kvinnor väljer att inte arbeta tillsammans med män, de väljer att arbeta i mindre grupper med andra kvinnor, på platser där antalet män inte är mer än antalet kvinnor eller ensamma.

This Master thesis is about a postal- and telegraphic building in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The construction methods for the specific building and buildings in general from the same time are described. The purpose of the report is to describe the loads acting on the building and how it has been built and why it has been rebuilt during the years. After this, possibilities of reconstruction and adaptation for today?s demands can be evaluated.
