The main purpose of this paper is to analyse the relation between the spatial and individual structures in Paul Austers City of Glass. The interpretative discussion is focused on the novels metafictive aspects. The analyses consists that Quinn, the main character, is linked to the city environment because of his function as detective, flânuer and author. According to Baudelaire, Benjamin and Berman the two last positions are fundamental in the literary citystructure, as well as in the formation of individuality and modernity..

Road design with focus to safety has been extensively developed in last decades in Nordic and some other EU countries with the main aim to achieve a decrease in a number of accidents and fatalities on the roads. These countries gained many valuable experiences, but they had to sacrifice great effort, expenses, and time to reach the present art-of-state. The purpose of the Master?s Thesis is to review some design approaches with focus to safety and discuss the general way that they may be applied. The Master?s Thesis studies safety in three levels: (i) general - design standards, national safety policies and road hierarchy; (ii) local authority and road administrator; and (iii) three specific safety countermeasures - junctions, pedestrian crossings and traffic calming.

Avsikten med detta examensarbete var att utreda hur planeringen av fritidshusområden som permanentas bedrivs och bör bedrivas. För att få reda på hur planeringen bedrivs gjordes två studier av hur 24 ostkustkommuner ställer sig till och arbetar med dessa förändringsområden samt vilka problem de uppmärksammat till följd av permanentningen. Resultaten av dessa studier visade att permanentning av fritidshusområden är ett aktuellt planeringsproblem i de ?esta kommunerna, men att de över lag ändå är positivt inställda till permanentning. Kommunerna är dock positivt inställda till permanentningen av olika anledningar. Studierna har visat en tydlig skillnad mellan kommuner med positiv befolkningsutveckling och kommuner med negativ befolkningsutveckling. De kommuner med en ökande befolkning ser permanentningen som bra sätt för att lösa den bostadsbrist som ?nns.

Folkhälsa och folkhälsomål är ämnen som vid en första tanke tycks ligga långt bort från stadsplanering. Faktum är dock att människors vardag påverkas av hur staden planeras, viket är logiskt. Hur en individ väljer att förflytta sig från en målpunkt till en annan påverkas exempelvis av vilken infrastruktur som finns, vilka avstånd det handlar om, vilken aktivitet individen är på väg till eller från samt vilken tid på dygnet som förflyttningen sker. Flertalet resor sker idag med bil eller kollektivtrafik, vilket innebär att människan transporteras stillasittandes. Många arbeten utförs idag stillasittande och flertalet fritidsaktiviteter innebär ännu mer stillasittande.

Förtätning innebär att nya byggnader placeras i anslutning till redan bebyggda områden så att befintlig service, infrastruktur och trafiksystem kan utnyttjas och förstärkas. Vårt examensarbete handlar om bostadsförtätning i Göteborgsregionen. Vi diskuterar begreppet förtätning och har genomfört fallstudier på två platser i orterna Mölndal och Mölnlycke strax utanför Göteborg. Arbetet inleds med en genomgång av olika förtätningstyper och dess positiva och negativa konsekvenser. Ökad exploatering ger fler bostäder i attraktiva områden, men innebär också ökad trafik och andra påfrestningar för dem som bor i närheten. Ibland planeras förtätning i grönområden, på parkeringsplatser och fotbollsplaner som människor gärna vill behålla. Både Mölndal och Mölnlycke präglas av närheten till Göteborg, många pendlar till arbeten i storstan. Men båda dessa samhällen har vuxit upp runt industrier och näringslivet blomstrar även i dag.

The purpose of the thesis is to describe how environmental compensation is carried through when it comes to exploitation of Natura 2000. The thesis also relates to the three theories of planning synoptic, advocacy and transactive. Three cases of environmental compensation have been studied from three different countries where an exploitation of the Natura 2000 is done. Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands have all been working with environmental impact assessments as a demand to be able to carry through their projects. The projects concern the development of a railway track, an industry and a port which all have been approved by the EU-commission to carry on because of socioeconomic reasons.

GPS (Global Positioning system) and GIS (Geographical information system) has been used for planning and inventory in the forest sector for more than ten years. The last years the development has come to equip harvesters and forwarders with GPS and GIS (GIT). The goal with this study was to reach a basis for decision, how Stora Enso Skog should continue its investment in GPS and GIS in harvesters and forwarders. To reach this basis for decision, possible advantages and benefits, disadvantages and problems in the harvesting process was evaluated. The study was made as an interview study with four harvesting managers and ten machine teams. To secure the quality of the results an interview questionnaire was made before the interviews were done. The results showed that GIT will make the harvesting managers work easier.

The purpose of this masters thesis is to examine how managers in public libraries are managing financial cuts. Questions posed are: What strategies are used by the library manager to handle the cuts and how are the strategies being worked out? What are the consequences of the cuts? How do the managers use their library plans in the work with the cuts and how do the plans change as a consequence of the cuts? Library managers in eleven communities are interviewed about their financial cuts in 2003 and/or 2004. The result shows that cuts are made in different ways. The study analysed the managers statements with a model about strategies created by Oulton.

In this study, I will discuss Hegel?s words on the death of God as they are stated in his Phenomenology of Spirit and Faith and Knowledge. I will present a reading of what I consider to be the two different usages of these words, and relate their meanings to each other. Focus lies on what Hegel refers to as the ?unhappy consciousness? and its experience of a disenchantment of the world, and on Christianity as the answer to this position.

Boliden Mineral Ab's mine in Garpenberg, Dalarna is going through a massiveexpansion. The annual ore production is being increased from 1,4 million tons to 2,5million tons in less than two years period of time. Along this expansion thedepartment of mining techniques is administrating a project of optimizing the shortterm planning for the mining production. Garpenberg have since mid 90s storedinformation from all mining processes in a database.The information consists of time data from all the different activities required in themining process, for example charging, blasting, loading etc. The database also containstime data of delays that are affecting the production.

I Sverige har handeln, sedan 60- och 70-talet, genomgått en omfattande strukturomvandling. Från att ha ägt rum i städernas centrum har den lokaliserats till allt mer perifera lägen - en trend som resulterat i de externa köpcentrum vi ser runt om i landet idag. Det kan konstateras att bilen spelat en stor roll i utvecklingen av externa köpcentrum; handelns omstrukturering hade inte kunnat ske om det inte vore för bilismens framväxt och den ökade mobilitet som den gav upphov till. I uppsatsens litteraturgenomgång konstateras att bilismen inte bara krympte avstånden utan även skapade nya, med en rad problem som följd, bland annat bilberoende transportstrukturer och negativ klimatpåverkan. Dessa transportstrukturer står i konflikt med miljökvalitetsmålet Begränsad klimatpåverkan, det miljökvalitetsmål som Regeringen anser är Sveriges högs prioriterade.

Progressive development of the planning phase, construction documents, and construction methods is in constant need since the technology constantly evolves.In order for contractors to be able to get acceptances from their quotations requires that they have to increase their working pace in order to be able to leave a quotation with a lower price than the competition.Due to the increasing pace the different parts involved in the construction process is subjected to time pressure. The design stage, construction documents, work preparation and the execution are all affected when everything has to be finished quickly. To avoid problems, it is required that all parts are able to deliver good quality solutions and results under the influences of time pressure, which is not always easy.
