Variation in protein precipitation and phenolic content within and among species across an elevational gradient in subarctic Sweden
This project investigated how elevation and vegetation type influences variation in plant litter phenolic content and protein precipitation capacity among and within common plant species for two different vegetation types, heath and meadow, in a subarctic ecosystem in the Abisko region of northern Sweden. As nutrient availability generally decreases with increasing elevation as a result of decreasing temperature, I hypothesised that phenolic content would increase with elevation and be higher on the heath than the meadow. To test this, the total phenolic content and protein precipitation capacity was estimated in leaf litter from 13 species in both heath and meadow vegetation across an elevational gradient ranging from 500 to 1000 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.) in the study region. The results showed that elevation and vegetation type both had a strong impact on both variables. Total phenolic concentrations decreased with elevation for the meadow, and were greater for the heath than the meadow.

Mobilomat : Designstudie av en offentlig laddare till portabla enheter.
Detta examensarbete är genererat på egen hand av projektets deltagare. Arbetet avser att frambringa ett förslag på hur en offentlig laddare kan utformas med kartläggning av dess teknik. Produkten riktar sig främst för laddning av mobiltelefoner men ska också fungera till andra energiförsörjande portabla enheter som, mindre datorer, musikspelare samt kameror.Examensarbetet är inom området, produkt- och processutveckling vid institutionen Innovation Design och Produktutveckling på Mälardalens högskola.Projektet omfattar en förstudie med analyser av befintliga produkter på marknaden gällande design, teknik och funktion. Förstudien omfattar också resultatet av en personundersökning för att utforska om det finns ett behov av en sådan produkt på den svenska marknaden samt för att ge inspiration hur den kan utformas. Vi har också tagit del av lämpliga litteraturstudier för att skapa en trovärdighet till läsaren och som stöd för vårt arbete.Med denna förstudie i beaktning inleddes en konceptutveckling med ett omfattande skissarbete som sedan fördes över till cad-modeller med hjälp av programmet Solid Works.
Professionell färdighetsutveckling på ett civilingenjörsprogram : en utvärdering av kompetenser hos alumner
The Master of Science in Energy Systems Engineering program at Uppsala University started in 2000 and 221 students has graduated since. This master thesis aims to answer what competencies alumni considers most important for successful professional practice. It also seeks to find out how these competencies are reflected in the program to identify potential gaps between importance and how the competencies are being prepared. With inspiration from similar research a method has been developed consisting of two steps: (1) A survey and (2) interviews with alumni. The alumni survey rates the professional importance of 13 competencies and how well the corresponding competency is prepared in the program.
Geotermisk fjärrvärme i Gunsta
Gunsta is situated about 10 km east of Uppsala. Today there are plans to establish 1000 new households in Gunsta before year 2030. The required energy for heating houses and water would be distributed via a district heating system, which also includes 200 existing residences. The annual required energy, according to this study, would be 16.2 GWh with a maximal peak effect of 6.9 MW.
To meet this need, the study suggests a system with heat pumps to upgrade the 31?C water from a 1.8 kilometre deep borehole.

In this paper I make research into how knowledge transfer and learning occur at Metso Paper Karlstad AB, which is a partly project based organization.The result is that there are many factors that affect the knowledge transfer in a company. Knowledge transfer occurs mainly between individuals within the company, but also between departments and other actors outside the company. In the gaps between these actors, there is a risk that knowledge is not transferred, which is an obstacle to learning. A great deal of the knowledge transfer and the learning is carried out through individual?s own drive and motivation.

This report focuses on the upper slit. The upper slit is located between the impeller andthe drive unit. The slit design depends on pump type and application. However it isuncertain why the design varies, The purpose of this report is to clarify why the designvaries and to recommend an improved slit design.A research has been done; information was gathered from interviews, but also fromsearching of databases and studies of drawings, reports and documents. The originalpurpose of the slit was to prevent twining around the driveshaft, and prevent dirt fromentering the cooling system.

feelings of safety indicate problems in society that can shrink
people's usage of public places as well as their quality of life.
Through methodical exaggeration of danger and legislation of laws, the
state creates a situation that in different respect work to overprotect the
citizens, who are not unlikely to experience feelings of being unsafe at
the same time that the actual safety is to big. An expansion of protection
against fear can unlike what was first intended decrease the experience of
safety.
Anledningar till staters anskaffande och behållande av kärnvapen och faktorer som påverkar staters kärnvapenpolitik
The purpose of this thesis is to explain why states obtain nuclear weapons and the role variousactors and interests play in the making of states´ nuclear policies. The main questions are asfollows: (1) What big theories exist concerning states obtaining nuclear weapon and nucleararmament in International Relations and what relevance do they have of the post cold-war period?,(2) What is the meaning of the perspective of the Military-Industrial Complex (MIC)?, and (3)Arethere empirical studies which supports the existence of a MIC in the United States?The focus lies on actors and driving forces that are internal to states and it is also important toinvestigate if the theories have relevance for the post 9/11-era. The study uses the method ofqualitative literature-study with some quantitative segments. It is claimed that states might beinterested in justifying their behaviour in a morally appealing way and that real reasons may behidden.
Varför bör kvinnorepresentationen öka? En textstudie av den interna debatten inom tre politiska kvinnoförbund under sjuttiotalet
When it comes to political representation, all over the world women almost always make up a minority of representatives in the legislative bodies. The Scandinavian countries in general and Sweden in particular have though been exceptions to this rule with, when compared to other countries, a rather high percentage of women in elected positions. This development took off in the seventies: during that decade the unit percentage of women in the Swedish Riksdag rose by double!The aim for this thesis is to analyse what underlying ideas influenced this advance. The focus is on three different female party federations, who are believed to have had a great impact on this increase of women politicians through their influence in their own mother parties. The federations analysed are the ones connected to the Social Democratic Party, the Centre Party and the Liberal party.
Kvalitetssäkring av gjutgods till verktyg och utrustningar för karosstillverkning inom bilindustrin
Detta examensarbete är ett försök att skapa en enkel handbok, där man lätt kan slå upp fakta om olika typer av gjutlegeringar. Samtidigt är det en undersökning om hur man kan förbättra kvalitetssäkringen av gjutgods. För att uppnå det förstnämnda har grundliga litteraturstudier utförts och resultatet har blivit ett antal avsnitt som tar upp det viktigaste om gjutning och gjutgods. I dessa avsnitt kan man läsa om olika gjuttekniker, legeringars gjutegenskaper, olika typer av värmebehandlingar, gjutdefekter, vanliga metoder för kontroll etc. Undersökningen av kvalitetssäkringen, och om dess förbättring, möjliggjordes genom kontakt mellan olika företag och genom att prova tekniker, såsom finita element beräkning (FEM) och gjutsimulering, och dra slutsatser från dessa resultat.
Finita elementmetoden och handberäkningar : En jämförande studie av beräkningar på väggskivor
Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka och jämföra två olika beräkningsmetoder när det kommer till beräkningar av väggskivor. Den ena beräkningsmetoden baserar sig på traditionella handberäkningar där anvisningarna i BBK 04 (Boverket 2004) och Betonghandbok Konstruktion (Lorentsen, Mogens, Cederwall, Krister & Östlund, Lars (red.) (1990)) följs. Den andra metoden baserar sig på finita elementmetoden, och utförs med hjälp av programmet Strusoft FEM-Design Wall. Med Finita elementmetoden delas konstruktionen upp i flera små delar, så kallade finita element, som sedan beräknas var för sig, och sedan sätts alla delarna ihop till ett resultat för hela konstruktionen. Två olika väggskivor beräknades, en solid väggskiva samt en väggskiva med ett dörrhål i. Vid jämförelsen på den solida väggskivan visade sig resultaten stämma väl överens med varandra.

The company Olofsfors AB manufactures drive belts for forest machinery, known as ECO-Tracks, and abrasion-resistant steel and cutting edges for graders, excavators and tractors, known as Bruxite and SharqEdges. Manufacturing these products requires the steel to be heated and molded, then submerged in water and hardened. The water used in the hardening of steel is pumped to the process from pits below the floor and then pumped back to the pit after it?s been used. Since the temperature of this water rises after being used to harden the steel the temperature of the pumping pit needs to be adjusted to maintain its setpoint of 21°C.
