The history of Banu Umayya has since the collapse of the caliphate occupied a major part in Islamic historiography. The present thesis analyses the presentation of the Umayyads in Ibn Khaldun?s al-Muqaddima and its relation to previous historical traditions. The thesis examines the social and intellectual context in which Ibn Khaldun stood and how it is represented in his historiography, while also providing an overview of the various socio-political, intellectual and historiographical developments in Islam. The theoretical perspectives are based on the concept of agency, examining the intellectual room for manoeuvre that the historian disposed of while composing the works.

This essay deals with risk management and social risks, which have received increased attentionin recent years. Methods for dealing with social risks, for example within local Risk andvulnerability assessment (RSA), are currently under development. The purpose of this paper is toexamine if and how social risk can be quantitatively assessed and mapped using GeographicInformation Systems (GIS). The definition of social risk that the essay is based on states: "Theprobability of unwanted events, behaviors or conditions originating in the social conditions thathave a negative impact on the objects that are worth to preserve.? A number of social riskindicators that can be used for a spatial analysis have been operationalized based on thisdefinition.

The aim of the study was to explore the psychological well-being of a group of adolescents in relation to how they regarded achieving in school, in a gender perspective. Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted with students aged 17-19 at a high-achieving school in a big city in Sweden. The interviews were analyzed thematically and the results showed that the adolescents acted differently as well as regarded achieving in school differently depending on gender. The young women were driven by ambition, they were high-achieving and planning for the future. The young men cared less about achieving and thought more about the present.

The Swedish stock-market gives investors an opportunity to benefit from the global growth while financing companies invests and contributes to a socio-economic development. Parallel to the ownership of the funds also follows a responsibility as companies in the funds affect society and the environment. The growth of savings in funds, combined with an increased focus on sustainability has developed SRI (socially responsible investment). Therefore it is interesting to examine whether responsibility is an exception, which only concerns SRI-funds or a general principle, which includes the whole Swedish stock-market.The results of the survey makes it clear that all the Swedish major banks actively works to integrate sustainability within the respective bank's business to achieve a more sustainable financial system. Thus concludes the investigation that responsible investments are a general principle on the Swedish mutual stock-market.How responsibility is integrated in fund management differ between the banks.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the subject matter of visual communication in presentation brochures of two Swedish regions: Region Halland and Region Dalarna. My focuses are the following questions: what is the aim of the brochures and in what ways does the visual material relate to that aim? How can strategic communication be defined through a visual perspective and in what ways is it useful in the context of presentation brochures of the regions? What sort of communicational functions are specific for the visual material in relation to the written language of the brochures? Lead by these questions, I start by analyzing the brochures through a textual analysis and a social semiotic approach. The result shows that the aim seems to be both political and commercial, but that the visual elements relate more strongly to the commercial aim than to the political aim by the way they strive to present a positive image of the region. The visual elements work in strategic ways that I define as visual strategies.

Studien syfte var att beskriva fotbollstränares verbala beteende samt analysera vilka förutsättningar dessa beteenden skapar för utveckling av spelarnas exekutiva förmågor (EF) som, enligt Vestberg et al (2012) är en avgörande faktor att bli elitspelare. För att komma fram till resultatet av fotbollstränarnas verbala beteende användes kvantitativ observation med inspiration från observationsschemat Coach Analysis Intervention System (CAIS) (Cushion, Stephen, Bob & Lee, 2012). Därefter analyserades vilka förutsättningar resultatet skapar för utveckling av exekutiva funktioner hos spelarna genom kvalitativ bedömning utifrån Annerstedts (2001) teoretiska perspektiv och tidigare forskning (Jackson & Beilock, 2008; Pearson & Webb, 2006;Williams & Hodges, 2005). Resultatet visar att tränarna har högst frekvens på instruktioner, lägst frekvens på reflekterande feedback och få divergenta frågor. Analysen visar att förutsättningarna för spelarna att utveckla EF är störande. Majoriteten av de verbala tränarbeteendena är störande för utvecklingen av EF medan minoriteten av tränarbeteendena är stimulerande för utvecklingen av EF. Nyckelord: exekutiva funktioner, tränare, verbal, beteende, instruktion, feedback, frågeställning, elit, fotboll..

Det mesta som är skrivet om bedömning i utbildningen gäller hur läraren i skolan bedömer elevens kunskaper. Däremot finns det inte så mycket studier om hur handledare bedömer eleven i det arbetsplatsförlagda lärandet. Då vi är blivande yrkeslärare och de elever som vi kommer att undervisa har en del av sin utbildning på arbetsplatsen kändes detta ämne intressant, aktuellt och viktigt för oss att undersöka. Studiens syfte är att undersöka handledarens strategier och grunder för bedömning av eleven i det arbetsplatsförlagda lärandet. Vi har utgått från den socio-kulturella teorin och har som datainsamlingsmetod använt oss av kvalitativa intervjuer.

De senaste åren har den internationella turismen ökat explosionsartat och den förväntas fortsätta öka på samma vis. Detta medför både positiv och negativ påverkan på destinationen och för lokalbefolkningen. För att turismen skall vara långsiktigt hållbar är det viktigt att inbegripa turisternas perspektiv på destinationspåverkan. Tidigare forskning har främst varit fokuserad på lokalbefolkningens syn på turismen, och därför behövs vidare forskning från turisternas synvinkel.Föreliggande uppsats har som syfte att undersöka hur svenska turister uppfattar destinationspåverkan inom de tre hållbarhetssfärerna ekonomi, sociokultur och ekologi. Vidare syftar uppsatsen till att undersöka eventuella skillnader i upplevelser mellan de två turistgrupperna massturister och alternativturister.Undersökningen har gjorts med hjälp av en enkätundersökning administrerad på Internet.

Naturvetenskap är en viktig kunskap att besitta för alla i ett samhälle. Inte minst för att förstå och förhålla sig kritisk mot mycket av den information som vi möts av dagligen genom media. De val vi gör påverkar oss som individer både lokalt och globalt, inte bara idag utan även framåt. Trots ämnets betydelse för samhället är många elever allt mindre intresserade av naturkunskap i skolan. Deras brist på intresse för naturvetenskap har visat sig genom flera internationella studier där studieresultaten så väl som attityden gentemot ämnet försämrats.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om det finns grundläggande skillnader i undervisningsmetoder och pedagogiska förhållningssätt mellan fiolpedagoger inom genren svensk folkmusik. Jämförelsen fokuserar på lärare med respektive utan formell musiklärarexamen inom genren. Fyra kvalitativa telefonintervjuer har legat till grund för undersökningen där de med respektive utan examen representerats av två personer var. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten för studien har varit det sociokulturella perspektivet. Studiens resultat visar att det är mer som förbinder än som skiljer de fyra pedagogerna åt.

I denna studie ställs frågan om den psykiatriska diagnosens sociala praktik för människor som inte har den psykiatriskt diagnostiserande specialvetenskapens utbildning genom att utforska ett perspektiv som inte uppmärksammats av forskningsfältet: vårdpersonalsperspektivet. Frågeställningen är hur människor som lekmän använder psykiatriska diagnoser och vilka faktorer som påverkar hur psykiatriska diagnoser upplevs som meningsfulla. Uppsatsens teoretiska utgångspunkt är hämtad från Ian Hackings analys av psykiatrisk diagnostik som en interaktiv kategori tillsammans med en analys av Martin Heideggers syn på det mänskliga ?varat? som ett socio-ontologiskt koncept. Härigenom framträder en bild av hur psykiatriska diagnoser är problemformuleringar sprungna ur självreflektion.

This study examines imagined boundaries between Swedes and non-Swedes. Rather than using pre-determined definitions as a starting point, the attempt is to examine the discursive construction of difference. The purpose is not to study the portrayal of immigrants per se but to examine how the ?immigrant-ness? is constructed. The result shows the perception of ?immigrant-ness? is linked more to a person?s origin than to the act of immigration itself. The selected newspapers are Dagens Nyheter (DN) and Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) for the period of 15th November ? 21st November, 1999.

Outdoor recreation habits in metropolis and rural areasThis study aims to examine the perception of nature and outdoor recreation habits from an urban-rural prospective. The urbanization process continues in Sweden and the populations of the cities are growing continuously. Trends to build more compact and ?climate smart? reigns and with this a risk that green areas and areas where outdoor recreation can be practiced are situated further and further away from the urban population. Analyzing the responses from a survey made by the research program Friluftsliv i förändring 2007 we have examined if and which differences exists between urban and rural areas regarding their perception of nature, outdoor recreation habits and factors influencing the practice of outdoor recreation.

This is qualitative study of, four teacher´s views on the use of iPad in teaching and learning. In addition, I will examine the disadvantages and advantages of iPad use as a teaching tool in preschools.My questions are:What is the practical use of tablets in preschools today?Are preschool teachers using the tablet as a teaching tool? If so, how?Is the use of tablets in preschools contributing to children´s social interaction, as well as between children and teachers` social interaction?The purpose of this study was to find out how the four teachers uses the iPad as a teaching tool in the interaction between children in preschool. I have chosen to use Vygotsky?s and John Dewey´s theories.

This masters thesis investigates the relation between China and the Information Society as it is manifested in the UN conference the World Summit on the Information Society WSIS. The first phase of this two-phase conference took place in Geneva 10-12 December 2003, with two documents, Declaration of principles DP and Plan of action PA, as main results. The information policy is central to an authoritarian rule in its efforts to keep control over the national identity. The thesis investigates the impact that the information revolution and Internet might have on the Chinese national identity through the acceptance of DP and PA in various aspects. With the use of the information science theories by Manuel Castells and Frank Webster, the vision of WSIS was compared with the Chinese information policy.
