En studie om klagomålsbeteende i den virtuella världen

The thesis ?Vi fixar och trixar oss fram till att hjälpa människor? focuses on Social work in the field of prostitution and human trafficking in Sweden. Through semi-structured interviews with Social workers in the municipalities of Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö working with persons selling and buying sex, and through discourse analysis, the author analyses the perceptions among these Social workers of the relation between human rights, prostitution and human trafficking, and the Social work which they conduct. The thesis concludes that although the Social workers perceive prostitution and human trafficking and Social work in this field as human rights related, they are not explicitly using a human rights based approach in their work. The thesis concludes that the Social workers identify several aspects that infringe on the rights of their clients in relation to the human rights principles of Universality, Non-discrimination, Accountability and Rule of law and the principle of Participation and Inclusion. They portray the human rights situation of street based sellers, especially those not being Swedish citizens and those affected by human trafficking, as severe. The thesis concludes that the Social workers find several obstacles (legal as well as structural) that diminish their ability to strengthen their clients? human rights situation.

Integration och socialt arbete i Danmark : en problematisering av integrationsbegreppet och dess diskurser i ett postkolonialt perspektiv

The aim of this M.A.-thesis in Social work is to problematize the assimilatoric concept of integration and its discourses in a postcolonial perspective in relation to Social work in Denmark. As a support theory I use symbolic interactionism. By using these theories I show how the concept of integration and its discourses, when its aim is assimilatoric, can be understood and problematized with concepts as binary oppositions and hegemony. It is shown that the construction of the discoursive other is a useful term as an instrument of interpretation of power in general. The relevance to Social work in relation to the Social workers double powered positions, professional and cultural power to define 'the other', in Social work with ethnic minorities is shown in relation to the post colonial perspective with support of symbolic interactionism. The white western world hegemony and the Social workers power positions in relation to the clients fits to the theoretic frame chosen in the thesis.A second aim in this thesis is to point to new ways for Social work and to the necessity to reflect over a globalized world characterized by international migration, ethnic relations and diversity..

"Jag är mer än en socialarbetare" : En kvalitativ studie om yrkesrollens påverkan på socialarbetares privatliv

This study aims to further Work-family conflict research for Social workers by providing insight into what kind of impact the job role of Social workers in Sweden has on their private lives and how they deal with it. The study operates from a qualitative approach and is based on three focus group-interviews and three semi-structured interviews with people working in different fields of Social work. The empirical material has been analyzed through the Dramaturgical Perspective and Frame concept of Erving Goffman. The results of this study show that the job role impacts the psychological well-being of Social workers, their family life and their social life to varying degrees, mainly due to organizational and client-based aspects, often resulting in role-conflicts and a lack of energy in their private lives. The primary strategies were found to be conversing with colleagues, spending time alone, embracing hobbies and having a clear understanding of individual responsibility. .

To answer the purpose three questions were formulated: (1) How do Social workers define and describe their discretion and their ability to independently accomplish their work? (2) How do Social workers experience that workplace organization, policies and economic conditions interact with their discretion and (3) How do Social workers experience that the interaction with the client can affect how they use their discretion in the individual case? The method used was qualitative interviews. The theoretical framework was Michael Lipskys (1980) Street-level bureaucracy and the four themes organization, professional role, skills and interaction. The results showed that the respondents, although they did not consider themselves to be affected by the economy still adapted to budget restrictions when they said that they were cost conscious in their work. This adjustment to budget framework could possibly be what made them not feel limited in their work.
