Samverkan är inte en frivillighetsgrej, utan det ingår i vårt arbete helt enkelt.

How do you do co-operation between government agencies? It is a wide spread view that there can be quite a few hitches in co-operation between agencies. In later years this idea has spread to the media where there has been negative coverage of the social service agencies. This generally applies to cases where children suffer because the right assistance takes too long to co-ordinate or does not get co-ordinated at all between schools, healthcare and social services. The social welfare law dictates that it is the social welfare office duty to co-ordinate the government agencies for the child?s best interest.

Det är ju ändå vi som bestämmer i slutändan : En intervjuundersökning om socialarbetarens dubbla roll och makten som följer

The background of this paper is the dual role that the Social worker can have, of beeing both supportive and controlling in the meeting with clients. It is also about the power the Social worker can have, how they handle the power in their profession and how they remain to it in the relationship with the client. The study is qualitative and built on interviews with eight Social workers that work in different areas in the social services. We have chosen to see this dual role as if the Social workers have to, in their daily work, handle the roles as one authority role and one supportive role towards the client. The purpose of this study is to understand how the dual role as the Social worker has in the profession, as a helper and a authority, is expressed in the work and relationship with the client. We have turned this purpose into two questions: How do Social workers with authority remain to the dual roles of the profession? How do the Social workers describe and understand power? We don´t want to generalize in this study, we want to give an example of the Social workers own experiences about the dual role.

In the last couple of years changes in the legal systems treatment of young offenders has given the Social worker more legal responsibility. In view of this, our purpose with this study was to examine how Social workers and prosecutors apprehend the role of the Social worker during the legal process. The study was delimited to look into the handling of young offenders between the ages of 15 and 18 years old. The questions we intended to look at were: How do the Social workers reason when trying to see the need of a child within a legal context; Do prosecutors and Social workers experience that they have different approaches when looking at young offenders, as a consequence of their different professions; What is the opinion among Social workers considering the duty of the social services to administrate community service for young offenders; How do the Social workers argue when determining whether or not a young offender has a "special need for care". These questions were answered through empirical studies where six Social workers and two prosecutors were interviewed.

This was translated into Swedish conditions and named BBIC (Barns behov i centrum = Child?s needs at the center). Our study aims to investigate whether BBIC will contribute to more and more extensive follow-ups of children placed than before, with a focus on the child's best. This has been studied through qualitative interviews with six Social workers who work with children investigations.
