The aim of this thesis is to examine the relationship between user education at high schools and the context in which it takes place. In order to accomplish this qualitative interviews have been executed with librarians at five Swedish high schools. The theoretical framework of this thesis is based on the sociocultural perspective and four approaches to user education developed by Olof Sundin. Based on the empirical material six themes have been identified. Each one represents a contextual factor which influences the user education.

Syftet med vår studie är att undersöka lärares syn på skolbiblioteket och dess funktion samt om samverkan mellan lärare och skolbibliotekarie sker. Vi vill även undersöka om man kan se något samband mellan de ämnen läraren undervisar i och hur de använder skolbiblioteket.Våra frågeställningar är följande:? Hur ser lärare på skolbibliotekets roll i den pedagogiska verksamheten?? Samverkar lärare och Skolbibliotekarier?? Kan man se något samband mellan de ämnen läraren undervisar i och hur de använder skolbiblioteket?För att få svar på våra frågor har vi utfört en enkätundersökning med öppna frågor på två skolor med lärare som undervisar i år 2?6. Vi lämnade ut 50 enkäter varav 36 besvarades, detta gav en svarsfrekvens på 72 %.Resultatet visar att lärarna i vår studie generellt ser skolbiblioteket som en mycket viktig del i skolans verksamhet. Resultatet visar även att de som undervisar i svenska använder mycket skönlitteratur, de som undervisar i samhällsorienterade och naturorienterade ämnen använder mest facklitteratur.

The aim of this master´s thesis is to analyse what factors have an impact on the quality of school libraries. The research questions are: How do some school principals, school librarians and school inspectors view quality in school libraries and what has an impact on quality?How do they view some existing quality criteria?How important do they think the integration of the school library into the curriculum is?The theoretical approach is derived from research about school libraries by David Loertscher and by Sharon Markless and David Streatfield. The empirical material has been collected through half structured qualitative interviews. The informants chosen are principals and school librarians from three Swedish primary schools (6-15 years).

The multicultural society of today where individuals have varied cultures and languages is different to the homogeneous society of the past, and sets new demands upon the school. The school library can play an important role when it comes to the integration and the acceptance of students with a different mother tongue. Provision and access to literature in the student?s mother tongue is seen as a strong indicator of a school that promotes a multicultural environment, and it?s also linked to the student?s feelings of identity and self-confidence. Their knowledge in their mothers tongue is crucial to the acquisition of a second language, and learning in extension.The purpose of this bachelor is to examine how school librarians work with multilingual students in junior high school, and what they consider to be their roles in this context.Confirming previous research, mediation of information and promotion of reading was a central task to the school librarians we interviewed.

Denna uppsats handlar om hur lärare kan stimulera elever till litteraturläsning och hur lärare kan arbeta för att väcka läslust. Frågorna som behandlas i arbetet är: Vad står det i styrdokumenten, läroplan och kursplan i svenska, om litteraturläsning? Hur kan lärare skapa läslust hos elever? Hur arbetar lärare med lässtimulans och hur skulle de vilja arbeta? Hur informerar lärare sig om nya barnböcker? Finns det något samarbete mellan lärare och Skolbibliotekarier / bibliotekarier? Arbetet bygger på litteraturstudier samt en empirisk undersökning i form av intervjuer. I resultatdelen redovisas intervjuerna som gjorts med fyra grundskollärare år 4-9 och tre bibliotekarier år 4-9. Svaren jag fått har jämförts med litteraturen.

This thesis investigates gender equality at a few Swedish elementary school libraries, and how school librarians at these libraries work with gender equality issues. It is a semi-structured interview study conducted with staff at seven elementary school libraries. Several policy documents state that the school should be a gender-equal environment, but previous research shows that there is still a lack of gender equality, and that staff often treat boys and girls differently. It also shows that boys and girls are often portrayed in a gender-stereotypical way in children?s literature.

Den senaste tiden har en livlig debatt förts angående skolans kvalitet. Som en del av dennadebatt ingår skolbiblioteket samt dess roll i kvalitetsarbetet för att eleverna ska kunna nå deuppsatta målen. Genom en lagändring 2011 flyttades lagtexten om skolbiblioteket tillSkollagen och blev då en del av Skolinspektionens granskningsarbete.Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur Skolinspektionen säkerställer attskolbibliotekslagen efterföljs. För att göra detta har intervjuer genomförts med rektorer dådessa är huvudmän över skolbibliotek samt med personal på Skolinspektionen då det är desom granskar skolbiblioteken. Vi har utgått från tidigare forskning som vi delade in tvåområden: skolbibliotekens roll samt kriterier som styr granskning.

This paper conducts a qualitative examination based on interviews with four high school librarians. The purpose is to illustrate their professional role in proportion to that of the teachers from working with students? reading comprehension and from their role, if any, in the school?s educational activity. The work is based on the following questions:- How does the high school librarian describe his or her work to increase the students' reading comprehension and contribute to their reading development?- How does the high school librarian describe his or her involvement in the schools? educational activity?- How can one understand the high school librarians' relation to the teachers with reference to the librarians? jurisdiction and the formal and actual legitimacy of the school library profession?The theoretical framework constitutes of the concept of jurisdiction and of formal and actual legitimacy.

International research has shown that through the involvement of the school library and the school librarian in the daily school work with the pupils, the pupil´s learning can be increased and reading comprehensions significantly improved.One purpose of this master`s thesis is to study the school librarian as a brand, representing the school library as well as the school librarian and whether there is a correlation between different comprehensions of the professional role of the school librarian. This is done by examining whether there is a difference between a specific librarian´s own perception of their professional role, compared to the image of the school librarian among teachers and principals working in the same school district and by comparing the profile the school librarian expresses with the image that is conveyed through communications via webpage, written and oral information given on services and competences provided by the school librarian and work carried out by her.A difference of comprehension of the school librarian´s competence and work, could be part of an explanation as to why the correlation between the involvement of school librarians in the school work and the improved learning achievements of the pupils has not resulted in the expected measures, regardless of the investments in school librarians and school libraries. The school librarians´ school identity could be difficult to establish. Whether or not the profiles and images of the professional role are consistent with each other is a much more manageable purpose which could go a long way of explaining the circumstances of the school libraries.That is the reason why we have examined whether the comprehension the school librarians have of themselves corresponds with the idea/ conception/ image conveyed to their surroundings, and with the idea/conception/image encompassed by people in their immediate surroundings..

The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the work of school librarians with pupils with dyslexia. In addition, the study investigates the cooperation between school librarians and pedagogues concerning the pupils with dyslexia. The two theoretical points of departure are: theory of profession and a model of cooperation built upon Louise Limberg?s and Lena Folkesson?s three categories of librarians? experiences of cooperation with teachers. Qualitative semi- structured interviews with eight qualified librarians constitute the empirical material.

The purpose of this essay is to examine progression in user education atprimary and secondary school levels, specifically the role played byschool libraries, librarians and strategy documents in securingeducational progression. Progression is examined in the user educationprovided by the five schools, part of the same municipal schoolmanagement area which share the same strategy plan. The area, NorraFäladen, was awarded School Library of the Year in 2011 for its work,making it particularly interesting for this essay's purpose. The studycombines interviews with the area's three school librarians, who dividetheir time between the five schools, with an analysis of the strategydocuments that regulate user education within Norra Fäladen. Theanalytical framework is based on: AASL's model of progression in usereducation (Standards for the 21st-century learner); Ekström's model forsuccessful and active strategy documents; Kuhlthau's theory of thelibrarian's role in the information search process; and Limberg'staxonomy of the role of the school library.The study shows how a number of concurrent factors and prerequisitesinfluence how goals for progression in user education are met.

I take interest in whether and how students in primary schools nowadays in Sweden participate in book clubs. My focus is on why teachers and school librarians choose to run book clubs and try to understand the structures that make book clubs possible. The method form my work is the qualitative research interview. I interviewed a group of eight people, five school librarians and three teachers from a medium-sized city in southern Sweden. My theoretical framework is a model contructed by researcher Patricia Montiel-Overall called Teacher- and Librarian Collaboration.

This master's thesis examines information literacy and students in secondary education. The study is framed within a sociocultural perspective of learning and the method used is questionnaires. The major question posed is how and where students seek information. Other questions are if the students critically evaluate and analyse in­formation sources and if teachers and school librarians cooperate with each other in order to help the students with their assignments.The findings indicate that most students regard information seeking as fact-finding or finding the right an­swers to the question. Only one third of students experienced information seeking as seeking and using informa­tion for understanding a topic.

?SEPARATE WORLDS?. School librarians teaching in information seeking in high school.The aim of this Master's thesis is to study how information seeking is taught in high school and how school librarians describe their experiences of teaching information seeking. Five school librarians from five different high schools (gymnasium) in Skåne participated in the study. The empirical data derives from five interviews and fourteen observations conducted over a period of three weeks.

Syfte Studiens syfte var att undersöka vilka uppfattningar det finns kring skolbibliotekets funktion för lärande kopplat till barn i behov av särskilt stöd. Forskningsfrågorna berörde erfarenheter som finns av skolbibliotekets roll för lärande, vilken relation skolbiblioteket har i förhållande till övrig pedagogisk verksamhet och vilka förväntningar pedagoger och skolbiblioteks¬ansvariga har på varandra.MetodGenomförandet bestod av en kvalitativ undersökning på tre grundskolor med hjälp av forsk¬ningsintervjuer med pedagoger och Skolbibliotekarier. Det inspelade intervjumaterialet bear¬betades med hjälp av transkribering och tolkning utifrån våra forskningsfrågor. Resultatet dis¬kuterades sedan och kopplades till studiens syfte och den forskning som finns på området.ResultatResultatet visade att pedagoger och bibliotekarier värnar och uppskattar sin skolbiblioteks¬verksamhet. Man vill gärna använda biblioteket i undervisningen och lärandet, men har svårt att skapa former för samverkan.Det råder också osäkerhet om hur man bygger upp effektiva stödstrukturer för elevernas lä¬rande i biblioteket.
