The purpose with this study is to examine what kind of support there is for school libraries at the selected independent upper secondary schools and how these schools ensure that libraryservices is available to their students and their teachers. The purpose is also to examine what attitudes the administrators of the schools have to school libraries and teaching in information seeking. A qualitative method with interviews was used to fulfil the purpose. As a theoretical basis of the study Loertschers taxonomies of the school library media program and Limbergs three levels of pedagogic research were used and the interviews were analysed with these two theoretical frameworks as a background. The result of the study showed that neither one of the three examinated schools has a school library which means that they use the public library instead.

In the Swedish school library discussion, the most prominent role of the school library haslong been that of cultural centre in the school, with the main goal being to encourage children'sreading. During the 90ies there were signs of a shift in focus to the role of information centre,giving active support across the whole range of the curriculum, in the independent researchingwork of the students. At the same time severe budget cuts caused great worries for the future.The interest for the school library media centres increased during this time, many differentorganizations said they wanted to fight for better school libraries. The purpose of the presentwork was to find out who they are, what they want and what their ideal school library lookslike. Fourteen organizations were studied, focus was on activities during 1995.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to investigate the importance of a school library for youths, age 14-16, from their perspective. We intend to study how they use and experience the school library both for educational- and leisure related purposes. We also intend to inquire their possibility to influence their school library. The literature that has been used consists of material from research concerning youth culture and school library.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate how one independent senior high school without a school library regards the role of school libraries. (What is their view of information literacy? Do they manage to reach the goals of Lpf 94 and the goals of each school subject without a school library of their own?). We have chosen to interview the principal and two teachers. Our major findings are that the public library in our study has been given the role of a school library, a role we think it can not fulfil.

In July 2011, new regulations regarding school libraries came into effect through a new education act for Swedish schools. The wording of the Act has been the basis of much discussion in which the concepts of "school library" and "access" makes it difficult to build consensus among different parties, why this can cause difficulties in ultimately construct equal access to school library. The purpose of this survey is to examine the interpretations and practices that exist around the school library and its functions among primary school principals. The principals have been selected on the basis that they themselves (the schools) already indicated that they do not have access to their own school library within the school premises. As a theoretical starting point, I used the school library researcher David Loertscher?s taxonomy for school leaders.

Föreliggande studie syftar till att undersöka hur Skolbibliotekarier medverkar i och upplever undervisningen i informationssökning för elever i grundskolans tidigare år, samt samarbetet mellan Skolbibliotekarie och lärare vad gäller ovannämnda område. Studiens frågeställningar belyses med hjälp av teoretiska begrepp knutna till det sociokulturella perspektivet och riktar uppmärksamheten mot hur användandet av språkliga och fysiska artefakter i förhållande till lärprocessen upplevs och förstås i olika sociala praktiker.Den metod som använts är kvalitativa samtalsintervjuer som har genomförts på fyra olika skolor med fem medverkande Skolbibliotekarier samt en Skolbibliotekskonsulent. Intervjuernas längd varierade mellan 30-60 minuter och samtliga har dokumenterats med hjälp av ljudinspelningar.Resultatet visar att Skolbibliotekariernas upplevelser av undervisning i informationssökning är beroende av de förväntningar, eller brist på förväntningar som finns i omgivningen. Samarbetet mellan Skolbibliotekarie och lärare påverkas av omgivningens attityder till Skolbibliotekets roll på skolan. Inställningen till Skolbibliotekets roll påverkar också de resurser som tilldelas Skolbiblioteket i form av exempelvis tid och personal och på så vis även vilka förutsättningar som finns för undervisning i informationssökning.

The subject of this master thesis is the school library and how we find its potential unutilized. We look at this problem in connection to the democratic assignment that the Swedish school has. The purpose is to elucidate what the democratic assignment consists of and to establish the role that the school library ought to have in this assignment. To describe the democratic assignment we examine and interpret the documents that regulate school and library activities today, including UNESCO/IFLA School Library Manifesto and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We use critical ideology analysis because we consider democracy to be a sort of ideology and have a critical view of how the school library is used or rather not used in school.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to discuss marketing as it applies to some school libraries. Today?s marketing is about relations. It involves the establishment, maintenance and development of relations with users, non-users and other library related relationships.

This master thesis deals with the problem of integrated libraries. The number of integrated public and school libraries has significantly increased over time. These libraries are integrated for different reasons, most often because of economic considerations. The goal of the thesis is to investigate librarians´ understanding and perceptions of the professional role in this type of integrated libraries. I have investigated how librarians see and interpret their own professional role, and what factors influence their perceptions in an integrated library.The three main questions are: How do the librarians explain their professional role in an integrated library? How does their professional role change because of the fact that they work in an integrated environment? What factors, according to the librarians, influence and/or change the professional role mostly? The data has been collected through interviews with eight librarians at integrated libraries.

Undersökningen visar de attityder olika aktörer, på och kring komvux i Blåmåla, harangående sitt Skolbibliotek. De tillfrågade har fått ge sina åsikter i fråga om Skolbiblioteketsegentliga funktion, personalen, lokal och bestånd, datorisering, användning, samarbetemed andra kommunala enheter och spekulera i andra aktörers tankegångar ombiblioteksverksamheten.Syftet är att visa på problematiken kring biblioteket i vuxenutbildningen, samt ge vissaförslag och idéer angående utveckling av verksamheten. En kvalitativ metod har använts,i avsikit att klargöra hur aktörerna, på just denna komvuxenhet, tänker. De intervjuade ärbl a rektor, studierektor, bibliotekarier och elever.Resultaten tyder på att man anser funktionen som referensbibliotek vara den viktigaste.Att ha en yrkesutbildad bibliotekarie, ses dock inte som en nödvändighet, aven om manefterlyser någon som kan visa fram de möjligheter Skolbiblioteket har att ge. Samtliga äröverens om att lokalen är för liten och att litteraturbeståndet borde vara betydligt större.Datorisering är erforderligt för verksamheten.

AbstraktDenna studie har som syfte att undersöka Skolbibliotek och dess betydelse för svenskämnets litteraturundervisning. Materialinsamlingen bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med fem Skolbibliotekarier. Intervjupersonernas utsagor diskuteras utifrån teorier som behandlar ämnesområdet ur olika infallsvinklar. Dessa teorier omfattar resonemang kring: Skolbibliotekariens roll och uppgifter; skönlitteratur och främjandet av läslust samt Skolbibliotekariens sociala relationer med lärarna. I resultatdiskussionen framgår bland annat att Skolbiblioteket kan utnyttjas för att låta eleverna komma i kontakt med annan litteratur än läroböcker, exempelvis skönlitteratur.

This thesis is about School libraries and the honour "School library of the year". I have examined the questions - Whats to say about school libraries in the curriculum and the library law? - Who administer the honour "School library of the year" and whats demanded to get it? - What have made the school libraries I have examined to school libraries of the year"? As theory I have used the Taxonomies of the School Library Media Program by David V. Loertscher. I have given a background to and defined the school library as a function, a room and in the teaching among others.

The aim of this master´s thesis is to analyse what factors have an impact on the quality of school libraries. The research questions are: How do some school principals, school librarians and school inspectors view quality in school libraries and what has an impact on quality?How do they view some existing quality criteria?How important do they think the integration of the school library into the curriculum is?The theoretical approach is derived from research about school libraries by David Loertscher and by Sharon Markless and David Streatfield. The empirical material has been collected through half structured qualitative interviews. The informants chosen are principals and school librarians from three Swedish primary schools (6-15 years).

Forskning visar att svenska barns läsförmåga sjunkit ordentligt i internationella jämförelser. Vilken roll kan samverkan mellan läraren och Skolbibliotekarien spela i det pedagogiska skolarbetet? En intressant fråga som är väldigt aktuell i dagens debatt om Skolbibliotekets vara eller inte vara. Kanske kan vår studie ge en inblick i vikten av att bemannade Skolbibliotek är en nödvändighet för elevernas läsutveckling i dagens skolor.Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka Skolbibliotekets betydelse i undervisningen hos en grupp lärare i svenska som undervisar på grundskolan. Våra frågeställningar behandlar hur läraren uppfattar sin samverkan med Skolbibliotekarien och Skolbibliotekets roll i svenskundervisningen.Resultatet av denna studie är baserad på 8 intervjuer som gjorts med lärare i svenska i två grundskolor där vi haft det sociokulturella perspektivet på lärande som vår teoretiska utgångspunkt.Sammanfattningsvis visar resultaten att de deltagande lärarna menar att Skolbiblioteket och Skolbibliotekarien spelar en viktig roll för elevernas inspiration och läslust, att det saknas tillgång till datorer och internetsökning på Skolbiblioteken samt lärarens önskan om en mer utvecklad samverkan med Skolbibliotekarien.

The aim of this master?s thesis is to examine libraries which combine the functions of school- and public library and to evaluate the staff?s experience and attitude towards a library profile with the emphasis on children and youth. The purpose of the study is also to examine how the libraries work with several tasks and functions within different target groups with different needs.With new institutionalism and Scandinavian institutional theory the thesis examine the library as an organization and what influences the construction. With a model that describes how the library constitutes four different rooms in the society I investigate the different functions.The methodology is qualitative with interviews of five persons of the staff, four librarians and one library assistant. The study examines how the staff that works at two libraries under similar conditions experiences their tasks.
