The role of mast cells and mast cell mediators in the development of atopic dermatitis in a mouse model
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex, often lifelong allergic disease affecting around 10 % of both
dogs and humans. The hallmark symptom is severe pruritus, causing a lowered quality of life. Mast
cells (MCs) are known to play an important part of the immunopathogenesis, promoting a faulty T
helper cell type 2 (Th-2) response which follows by a production of specific immunoglobulin E
(IgE) antibodies towards environmental allergens (Ag). To further investigate the role of MCs and
its mediators in the progression of AD, a low-calcemic vitamin D3 analog (MC903) was used to
induce AD-like symptoms locally on the ears of two different knock-out (KO) mouse strains. The
first strain was Wsh-/- mice deficient in MCs.

According to the literature, it has been postulated that it is notnecessary to obtain cycloplegia before the examination in lower mammals. Someauthors even mention that it can make the examination more difficult. Therefore itis not recommended.
Intensivträning vid kronisk afasi : Multipel fallstudie med Constraint Induced Aphasia Therapy (CIAT)
Constraint-Induced Aphasia Therapy (CIAT) är en gruppbehandling för personer med afasi. Tidigare forskning kring CIAT har ansetts otillräcklig gällande dess långsiktiga effekt, dess effekt vid lindrig afasi och dess effekt på kommunikativ delaktighet. Föreliggande studie är en multipel fallstudie som syftar till att undersöka CIAT:s kort- och långsiktiga effekt på språk och kommunikation vid lindrig afasi. Fyra personer med kronisk afasi deltog i CIAT under två veckor. Språkfunktioner och funktionell kommunikation bedömdes före behandling (T1), efter behandling (T2) och vid uppföljning efter 3 månader (T3). Bedömningarna kompletterades av intervjuer med deltagarna och deras närstående. Vid T2 visade samtliga behandlingsdeltagare övervägande förbättrade språkliga funktioner. Vidare skattade 4/4 deltagare och samtliga närstående en förbättring av funktionell kommunikation. Vid T3 var förbättringen övervägande stabil.
Installation av övervakningssytem ombord på fartyget M/S Andromeda
This report is regarding an electrical installation of an alarm system on a post fishingboat called Andromeda. The background of the installation was an earlier andinadequate alarm system that led to a motor failure. The ship was taken out of serviceand was sold to Björn Magndahl who rebuilt it to a yacht.The project was conducted partly by developing the existing systems, partly bydocumenting the work by means of electrical blue prints. Except the alarm systems, aninstallation of the frequency control unit for the bow thruster was installed.The installation was working fine and the outcome of the documentation was handedover in a form of a binder during the test drive of the systems and the assignment wasapproved..

Techniques used in the building of a number of ships from the Mediterranean will be presented in this paper. The two techniques thnat will be discussed are shell-based technique and skeleton-basedtechnique. An attempt to clearify and delineate the transition between these two techniques will be made. The possible reasons for transition will then be described and discussed. The development ofthe techniques is going to be identified with help from four wrecks by analyzing their edge joineriesand this facts will be used as a basis for a chronological presentation.

The ownership of agricultural property is governed by the Land Acquisition Act. The reason for this is because they want to limit legal person owner-ship of agricultural properties. It is believed that a large proportion of pri-vate ownership is healthy and stimulating for the Swedish countryside.
There are some exceptions in which legal persons may be able to acquire. This is a review over decisions taken by the authorities. In this report I have studied purchases made between 2008 and 2010.
Kusten är klar : en undersökning av Gotlands bronsåldersstrandlinje i GIS
In this bachelor thesis an attempt is made to recreate the shoreline of Gotland during the Bronze Age. This has been done with the help of GIS to analyze remains dated to different periods of the Bronze Age that have been situated close to the coast. Case studies of three areas of the island have been made where dated remains together with typical Bronze Age remains like cairns and ship settings are analyzed with variables such as height over sea level and geological and topographical information. Contemporary datings from each case study have been compared to find a possible shoreline for both early and late Bronze Age. Two shorelines, one for the early Bronze Age and one for the late Bronze Age, have been created and tested on the three areas to see the placement of the remains in relation to these coastlines..

Rostfärgat slam i dränagesystem vid vattenkraftsanläggningar : orsaker och åtgärder
From embankment dams is something that has long been noticed and given rise to different questions. The most serious question is if the sludge is a result of inner erosion through the dam, and thus consists of material transported from the dam. Concerns have also been raised whether the sludge could interfere with the systems drainage capacity and thereby lead to high pore pressure in the dam, or if the measurement of seepage is disturbed, as the measuring is usually made via Thomson weirs, which could risk being blocked.
The result of this investigation shows that the sludge is a result of the oxidation of iron by iron bacteria, and to the greater part consists of these oxides as well as the bacteria?s own structures. The iron oxidizing bacteria, FeOB, oxides ferrous iron to ferric as a part of their metabolism, and thereby create large quantities of iron(oxy)hydroxides.

SKRED I NIPOR OCH KONSEKVENSER FÖR VATTENKRAFTSANLÄGGNINGAR I ÅNGERMANÄLVEN.
Detta examensarbete behandlar stabiliteten hos den typ av siltiga nipor som före-kommer längs med och i direkt anslutning Ångermanälven. Dessa sluttningar som i många fall antar karaktären av rasbranter har i många fall en alltför hög släntlutning för att kunna betraktas som stabila enligt traditionella beräkningsmetoder, men verkligheten visar att dessa beviserligen har den egenskapen att kunna stå kvar i mer extrema geometrier. Detta tillskrivs ofta egenskapen hos sand och framförallt silt att hysa negativa portryck samt cementeringseffekter till följd av mineralisering.Ägare av vattenkraftsanläggningar längs med Ångermanälven, till vilka e.on tillhör, har uttryckt en viss oro över vissa enstaka större skred som skulle kunna tänkas förekomma vid mer extrema tillfällen, där den stabiliserande förmågan blir reducerad och risken för att dessa generera flodvågor av det större slaget, ökar. Detta kopplat till andra omständigheter vid dessa tidpunkter som höga vattenflöden och minskad av-bördningskapacitet i själva dammen, gör att det finns ett intresse i branschen att kart-lägga stabiliteten hos slänter i anslutning till vattendrag, inte minst då skred generar drivgods, vilket kan leda till igensatta utskov.Studien har behandlat Ångermanälven från kraftverket i Sollefteå C upp till Nämforsens kraftverk i Näsåker och har ur stabilitetssynpunkt fokuserat på två slänter, en i Remsele och den andra i Mo-Norrtannflo, där det för den förstnämnda fanns en del material tillgängligt från tidigare undersökningar, medan det för den andra krävdes undersökningar i fält för att fastställa dess egenskaper.Av de analyser som gjorts framgår att de studerade objekt och området närmast om-kring dem verkar vara stabila mot de djupare skred som befarades. Däremot tycks ytli-gare skred och erosion utgöra ett större problem, och bör analyseras och karteras mer för området som helhet för att fastställa den egentliga förkomsten av dessa, i synnerhet då just ytligare skred som berör större ytor kan bidra med stora mängder drivgods..
Utveckling av metod för retrospektiv bestämning av absorberad dos i korall medelst elektronspinnresonans
This diploma work was performed at the department for radiation physics at the Health University in Linköping. Its aim was to develop a method to retrospectively quantify the absorbed dose in coral. Coral is a material which suites well as a retrospective dosimeter because when exposed to radioactivity its induced free radicals are stable in time. The number of radicals is proportional to the accumulated dose so the dose can be calculated by quantifying the radicals. Therefore, coral can tell us something about the past environment and also be used in dating purposes.A young, modern coral from the Red Sea was studied and also a fossil one which I was given from the Natural History Museum in Stockholm.
