The military conflicts of the early 21st century have seen the introduction and rise of a new military technology: the armed drone. With the United States acting as the driving force behind this technological advancement, the U.S Air Force and intelligence agency CIA have madedrones their weapon of choice for pursuing suspected terrorists and insurgents in various remotelocations. American military leaders and policy makers assert that the armed drone?s high levelof accuracy make it the best available weapons platform for this task. However, new researchshows that the use of drones may result in more civilian casualties than previously thought, andmay in fact be more fallible than conventional aircraft in this respect.

In a web environment the library and the librarian continue to function in their role as information provider even when the physical library is closed. Research question is to describe how and in what extent the public libraries websites are integrated in their daily activity and what the causes are for that. The empirical material consists of a survey of number of public libraries websites and qualitative interviews with responsible librarians. I have delimited the study by only investigating the websites of Gothenburg public libraries. In my survey of the websites I have studied four spheres; Services, Contact, Structure and General viewpoints.

An increasing amount of companies and organizations are starting to implement the use of cloud computing in their business. This trend results in that software, which was previously sold and distributed to the customers whom then had to install the software on their own computers, now is being replaced with Software as a Service (SaaS). SaaS makes software available through the customers? browsers, which results in that the service providers only have to administer a single application. The process to migrate a distributed application to a service delivered as a SaaS lacks sufficient investigation; this paper will provide some guidelines for conducting such a pro- cess.

I mitt examensarbete har jag haft för avsikt att undersöka metoder för att modellera lågpolygonkaraktärer för datorspel. Som min metod valde jag att delvis studera karaktärsmodeller från ett antal olika spel från etablerade spelföretag. Med olika programvaror har jag kunnat plocka ut modeller från spelen för att kunna granska dem under förstorningsglas.Med hjälp av samma program gjorde jag också en kort statistisk sammanställning över hur många polygoner som används för olika karaktärer i olika spel. Detta var i avseendet att få en uppfattning om vad som räknas som lågpolygonmodeller. Vad jag kom fram till här var att det inte finns en klar och tydlig definition av vad som räknas som lågpolygonmodell.

Ett förlagsavtal mellan författare och förlag är ett specialavtal. Av detta följer att speciellaregler och praxis hanterar tolkningen av dylikt avtal. När en författare vill byta part i avtalet,finns det specifika regler och praxis som hanterar det. Två specifika situationer dyker upp somnågot problematiska och svårtolkade. Den första situationen hanterar då ett förlag går ikonkurs.

The aim of this two years master´s thesis is to examine discourses about electronic books in relation to libraries that occur in the Swedish library journal Biblioteksbladet by using critical discourse analysis (CDA). The thesis also aims to discuss changes in the discourse practice, and discuss the relationship between discourse practice and social practice in the field of library and information Science (LIS). A main point of CDA is that language is a form of social practice that helps shape social reality. Furthermore the concept of ideology, as understood with-in CDA, brings understanding to the way discursive events help reproduce and transform social relations of pow-er. The text samples span from 2005 up to and including 2011 and were examined by using Norman Fairclough´s three-dimensional conception of discourse, which allows for interpretation of text on a linguistic, discursive and social level.The result of the analysis showed that there are several different discourses about electronic books and li-braries, none of which can be said to be particularly representative.

Denna uppsats har för avsikt att undersöka huruvida det androgyna modet sker på lika premisser för män respektive kvinnor. Genom en semiotisk analys av det androgyna modet i tre Science fictionfilmer förs en diskussion om det androgyna modets premisser kopplat till könsstereotypa uppfattningar om det manliga respektive kvinnliga modet. Då det androgyna uppstår i gränslandet mellan vad som är manligt och vad som är kvinnligt, och då samtliga klädedräkter uppvisar en tydlig dragning åt ett visst köns silhuetter så ägnas en stor del av uppsatsen åt att analysera karaktärernas blickar och positioner för att se vart det androgyna uppstår, och därmed också kunna besvara om det sker på lika premisser. Science fictiongenren som är en genre som erbjuder sin upphovsmakare fria tyglar att skapa den värld hen vill, och som erbjuder en möjlighet att applicera reella maktstrukturer på en imaginär värld ifrågasätts här för sitt sätt att trots detta tendera att falla in i stereotypa föreställningar om hur kön representeras och presenteras i klädedräkt och positioner.  Uppsatsen fastställer att det androgyna inte sker på lika premisser för män respektive kvinnor, utan visar att kvinnor i större utsträckning ikläds manliga klädedräkter, medan männen snarare ikläds kvinnliga egenskaper, det vill säga ges feminiserande drag. Detta leder i förlängningen till att det androgyna modet tenderar att osynliggöra det kvinnliga modeidealet, och tillika cementera stereotypa föreställningar om vilken klädedräkt männen tillåts bära eller ej..

The poor results of 15 year old Swedish students in the 2012 PISA-investigation serve as the main inspiration for this essay. Though aware that PISA measures a range of skills, including math-, Science- and reading abilities, a deliberate focus has been placed on the latter. Unsatisfactory math- and Science results are sure to bare consequences ahead, but poor reading skills affect the comprehension of all other subjects combined and is therefore of utmost importance.This essay explores the roles of teachers and school librarians in the promotion of reading, as well as their ways of cooperating in strengthening students' reading abilities. Questions of particular interest are:? In what ways do teachers' and school librarians' views of ongoing reading promoting activities differ?? How does the school and school library contribute to reading promotion and reading comprehension among students?? What factors unite teachers and school librarians in their attempts to promote reading, as far as pedagogical roles are concerned?Working on this essay, a total of seven qualitative interviews were conducted.

Den tekniska utvecklingen driver fram allt mer avancerade datorsystem. Samtidigt ställs allt större krav på stabilitet och flexibilitet i de operativsystem som ska användas på dessa system. De senaste årtiondena har micro kernel arkitekturen varit föremål för intensiv forskning och det finns idag ett flertal operativsystem på marknaden som använder denna arkitektur. Traditionella monolitiska operativsystem är relativt resurskrävande system som ofta anklagats för att sakna struktur. Micro kernel baserade system är en lösning på detta problem där man bantat ner kernel till så lite som ett tiotal kilobyte och flyttar ut tjänster som normalt ligger i kernel till user space. Solaris och Linux bygger på en utveckling av monolitisk kernel där man byggt operativsystemet i ett antal sinsemellan beroende lager vilket bidrar till ökad struktur i systemet. Flexibilitet uppnås i dessa system genom att man lägger till funktionalitet för att under exekvering länka in ny kod i kernel. Windows NT och Mac OS X är baserade på micro kernel arkitektur.

The thesis examines the view of reality as expressed in the subject structure of the web directory Open Directory Project. This is analyzed in comparison with library classification systems, regarded as products of the modern library movement. The question is raised whether the world view of the directory, in contrast to the modern classification systems, can be seen as an expression of postmodernity. Postmodernity is then understood as a radical critique of the modern belief in neutral Science and technology as ways of objectively describing the universe of knowledge. The theoretical and methodological approach adopted is borrowed from a poststructuralist reading of Michel Foucault's archaeology and sociologically coloured classification research.

Med hjälp av design Science och delar ur en traditionell systemutvecklingsmetodik så har vi tagit fram ett designförslag åt en organisation med vad som kan anses som traditionella problem med interoperabilitet. Vi har därefter härlett en organisationscentrerad metod för att automatisera en affärsprocess ur den erfarenhet vi fått genom att ta fram designförslaget..

The aim of this master´s thesis is to explore how Stockholms new library´s identity is constructed, and further to relate the case study to a general discussion of the identity of public libraries in Sweden. This is done through analysis of the visions and plans that the planned library is based on. We feel that it is a relevant study since questions concerning the public library's identity are for library and information Science as well as the institution. Questions posed in the study are: How is the roles and identity of the planned library described in the texts that form the basis of the project? What characterises the relationship between the present and the planned library? What discourses concerning the public library's identity can we see in the material?The theoretical framework of the thesis is a discourse oriented analysis based on the critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough.

E-business innebär att företag använder Internetteknologier eller nätverksteknologier för att skapa större affärsnytta i deras affärsprocesser. För att kunna genomföra automatiserade affärsprocesser krävs att de olika system som används är interoperabla, d v s kan kommunicera och fungera ihop på ett effektivt sätt. Målet med Web Services är att skapa hög interoperabilitet, vilket gör denna teknik lämplig för e-business. Företag kan specialicera sig på att skapa specifika Web Services. Dessa Web Services kan sedan vara byggstenar åt andra företags tjänster. Det krävs då att Web Services kan integreras på ett bra sätt så att de verkligen bildar en affärsprocess. Därför är även frågor kring hur integration mellan Web Services ska gå till, viktigt ur ett e-bussiness perspektiv. Det vi kommit fram till är att det går att minimera integrationsproblemen genom att anvä nda de mest standardiserade protokollen och följa vissa riktlinjer vid skapandet av Web Services.

Microsoftdomen grundar sig i att Microsoft vägrat lämna ut interoperabilitetsinformation till en av sina konkurrenter (Sun). Sun menar att detta konstituerar ett missbruk av dominerande ställning och lämnar in ett klagomål till Kommissionen som påbörjar en utredning. Kommissionen börjar dessutom på egen hand utreda huruvida Microsofts integration av Windows Media Player i sitt operativsystem (Windows) kan utgöra ett missbruk. Den 17 september 2007 blev Microsoft dömda av Förstainstansrätten för missbruk av dominerande ställning. Detta ledde till ett par påföljder för Microsofts del.

Weblogs, or blogs, are frequently modified web pages with a series of archived entries, generally in reverse chronological sequence. This thesis focuses on the rapid-growing phenomenon of weblogs and the fact that individuals with a background in library and information Science are frequent users of weblogs. Since this is an explorative inductive study the ultimate purpose can be described as to find out what ?blogging? as activity is about. The research questions posed are: Why do individuals with a background in library and information Science use weblogs? How does their professional identity affect their blogging? And finally; how do they use the weblog to create networks with other bloggers? The empirical material consists of audiotaped interviews with five informants who are all employed in knowledge work, either as librarians or information specialists.
