Saab Component Maintenance in Linköping, Sweden, offers maintenance, repair andoverhaul (MRO) services for civilian and military aircraft components. Lately, thedepartment has struggled with slow throughput rates, despite various counteractingattempts. Studies show, that large parts of the delays derive from the logisticsdepartment where goods arrive and dispatch. Therefore, Saab wants to carry out anextensive analysis of the department in order to further investigate what is causing itsslow throughput rates.The thesis begins with extensive mapping over Component Maintenances whole valuestream to find out how departments interact with each other and which roleindividual departments have in the total supply chain. Out of 13 000 different partnumbers, components were divided into five product families.

This master thesis deals with questions concerning facts and fiction in the world of Beatrix Potter's rabbits. The purpose is first and foremost to find the connections between the pet rabbits, that she used as art models, and the rabbits that came to life through her "tales".The method has been to gather facts through biographic reading, and to analyse Beatrix Potter's rabbit tales, using tools developed by Swedish picture book experts. The rabbit characters are thoroughly examined and so are the settings where the tales take place. Matters concerning Beatrix Potter's painting technique and illustration style as well as her literary and pictorial inspirations are dealt with.Conclusions are, that the fictive rabbit characters have indeed a lot to do with the fact that Beatrix Potter was interested in natural history and studied animal behaviour and anatomy in detail. For a long time rabbits, both wild and domesticated, were her favourite study objects which provided conditions for her rabbit fantasies.

Denna studie är genomförd på en bultsvetsstation med fyra bultsvetsrobotar från ABB som används i den dagliga produktionen i karossfabriken på Saab Automobile i Trollhättan. I dagsläget används off-lineprogrammerade robotprogram från IGRIP i flera robotceller på karossfabriken. IGRIP har under flera år används utan att man har någon metod för att utvärdera för hur kapaciteten i robotcellerna utnyttjas. Begränsningarna hos IGRIP är att det inte automatiskt kan beräkna och generera kollisionsfria banor vilket är mycket tidskrävande. Programmeringen av via-punkterna sker via manuell inmatning i programmet vilket medför att de inte utnyttjar maximal kapacitet i robotcellen.

Projektet går ut på att göra en viktoptimering av ett apparatskåp som sitter monterad i artillerilokaliseringsradarn ARTHUR.Projektets syfte är att uppnå en viktoptimering på 20-30%, dels genom andra material, som kolfiber och magnesium, men också genom annan design och utformning på detaljerna i skåpet.Hänsyn måste dock beaktas till kravspecifikationen som huvudsakliga beställaren fastställt, då främst att skåpet utgör ett EMI-skydd.Vi har tagit fram förslag på fackverksliknande förstärkningsribbor påde olika frästa detaljerna istället för de vertikala och horisontella ribborna. Detta tillsammans med en minskning av plåttjocklek har resulterat i lägre vikt. Om materialet också byts ut mot till exempel magnesiumlegeringen ZK60A som har sträckgräns och brottgräns motsvarande den redan använda aluminiumlegeringen så blir viktbesparingen ännu större på grund av magnesiums lägre densitet.Vi har dessutom tagit fram ett förslag på en ram i aluminiumprofiler som sedan kläs med aluminiumplåtar. These studies are done in behalf of Saab AB AVITRONICS in Järfälla in the form of a thesis atthe Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.The task was to examine the parameters that plays a role in the construction of modern radomesoperating in broadband applications.This was interesting for Saab to get an indication of which way they should go at the newdevelopment of radomes for the next generation of equipment for electronic warfare.After a thorough analysis of the influencing parameters, a optimization application was made toget a automated way to get a radome design by specifying data on the radome size, airloads,materials, etc.This is to minimise the time of the laborious work that radome development.inply.This was solved by letting ANSYS calculate the strength of the radome structure and MATLABcalculate electromagnetic data and cost models of different sizes and materials.All these parameters woven together with the optimization tool modeFrontier picks data from therespective program and perform an optimization algorithm and then iterate a step and sends thisdata to calculation programs for the new input data. In the end, we have received a convergedpoint with our optimal solution.For the presumptions and limitations for which applied for this thesis, the result was prettyintuitive. Bakgrund: Under 1990-talet har företag outsourcat allt fler funktioner för att kunna koncentrera sig på sin kärnkompetens och därigenom öka sin konkurrenskraft. Även om nackdelarna med detta diskuteras, har dock argumenten för outsourcing tydligt dominerat debatten kring huruvida företag bör lägga ut aktiviteter på en tredje part eller inte. Det är först under senare år som röster har höjts för att outsourcing inte alltid är att likställa med vägen till framgång. Att debatten kring kärnkompetens och outsourcing så starkt fokuserat på fördelarna med att lägga ut aktiviteter på en tredje part innebär dock att denna debatt har varit och fortfarande är relativt ensidig. Syfte: Uppsatsens syfte är att, med utgångspunkt från ett fysiskt distributionsperspektiv, utveckla en mer nyanserad bild av debatten kring kärnkompetens och outsourcing med avseende på skapandet av konkurrensfördelar.

Syfte: Denna studies syfte är att beskriva förtroendets roll i långsiktiga affärsrelationer mellan företag inom automationsindustribranschen. Technology based self-service (TBSS) used in supermarket self-scanning checkouts is a relatively new phenomenon in Sweden. Studies on TBSS as a self- checkout device have been formerly carried out but with focus on the customer perspective. The authors therefore saw a challenge in covering the self-scan checkout concept, from a company perspective. The purpose of this research paper is to investigate, through a management perspective, the changes brought about by implementing an innovative TBSS system in Swedish supermarkets, and its effect on the competitiveness of the company. This is done by presenting and linking the theoretical framework and empirical study in the research.

Saab Training Systems (STS) in Huskvarna is manufacturing material for educationalpurposes to armies worldwide. They are now implementing parts of the Lean productionconcept in their organisation.One part of the work with Lean production is to eliminate waste. To be able to identify waste,value stream mapping is a good tool and also what we used in our thesis. To gain a betterefficiency in the production of Personnel Detector Device (PDD) flow was one of our goals.The PDD is a harness used during battle training which registers if the user is being hit by itsenemy.Our work with the thesis started up with a short education in Lean production and in valuestream mapping (VSM). The work proceeded with a VSM of the production flow of the PDD,interviews were made and studies of literature were done to gain greater knowledge of thesubject and solve the task.The VSM resulted in five areas which were followed up out of those six we identified.
