Lifestyle magazines portray women in different manners and have an influence on how media consumers create self-images. The importance of knowing how different visual representation of the female acts out in magazines with large target audiences is therefore of weight for the magazines? readers to understand. This thesis analyze how the two lifestyle magazines ELLE and LOVE portrays women in images and how they in turn create ideal images of women.The thesis has been conducted through a qualitative analysis of 5 images from each magazine that represents the magazines artistic styles. The theories used in this study are semiotic image analysis and visual text analysis viewed from a gender- and discourse perspective.The conclusion of this thesis is that ELLE portrays women as strong, happy and feminine, with at tendency towards androgyny, while LOVE describes women as inferior and sexual objects constructed for the male gaze.

Ethos har inom retoriken alltid haft en stark aristotelisk prägel, ett arv sprunget ur hur talares karaktär framhölls i rättegångar i antikens Grekland. Eftersom retorikens uttryck och användningsområden har utvecklats enormt sedan dess, inte minst inom den politiska retoriken, finns en risk att vi idag begränsas av den uppfattning av ethos beståndsdelar som lever kvar efter Aristoteles. Genom att enbart se till vad som kan ses som god moral, sunt förnuft och välvilja hos talaren kan vi missa viktiga kontextuella faktorer som talaren kan använda sig av i sitt ethosbyggande, speciellt inom politisk retorik: exempelvis det ämbete som personen besitter, de regler och normer som omger situationen eller partiets värderingar och traditioner. Alla dessa är faktorer som en politiker ofta använder sig av för att inge förtroende för sig själv som politiker idag, vilka en aristotelisk ethosanalys inte ger utrymme för. I denna uppsats prövas, med den teoretiska inspirationen från Kenneth Burkes ?terministic screens?, sociologen Max Webers tre legitimitetstyper på begreppet ethos, vilka sedan appliceras på den socialdemokratiska retoriken, i hopp om att kunna bidra till utvecklingen av ethosbegreppet.

Citizenship is fundamental for participation in a democracy. It gives us rights but also responsibilities in the state that we are citizens of. Citizenship provides us with the opportunity to vote in order to influence who should govern us. However, not all living in a state are citizens. Some individuals are not included in the political life of the state.In recent years, there has been a rise of nationalist political parties in Europe.

The last ten years two major movies about journalists have been made in Sweden; Sprängaren and Män som hatar kvinnor. This study has looked closer at the heroine Annika Bengtsson and the hero Mikael Blomkvist from these two movies. Since movies do have great influence on how we see the world it is important to find out how these characters are being portrayed. Also, in a time when journalism is about to become a female dominant occupation it is relevant to see how the female journalist compares to the male. It is important to ensure that the films do not give a wrongful picture of male and female journalists.

IKEA är ett av de företag som uppmärksammat de ökadekrav som ställs på att företagen ska ta samhällsansvar och denna uppsats syftar till attundersöka vilket ansvar och vilken öppenhet IKEA förmedlar genom sin CSR-rapportering.I Metodavsnittet behandlas den kvalitativa fallstudieformen som valts för att undersöka defrågeställningar som formulerats. Uppsatsförfattarna har valt att utföra textanalys på deundersökta CSR-rapporterna. Textanalys är ett sammanfattande begrepp för många olikametoder där texter sönderdelas och analyseras.

More specifically its aim was to find out more about the function and the meaning of the appraisal talk, for the organization, managers and co-workers point of view, and if there was any specific method applied. Two of the central questions were: How did the managers and co-workers describe the function and the meaning of appraisal talks? Were there any differences or similarities of the respondent?s point of view, depended of their position in the organization? The method of analysis was qualitative with a critical reflective approach. The study was based on interviews with three managers and four co-workers, in the public service of elderly care in Kalmar municipality.

This essay aims to examine Martha Nussbaum's proposal for a classical defense of reform in liberal education and her critique of utility thinking in higher education. I want to explore how Nussbaum uses history to create an ethical alternative that cultivates both moral and intellectual virtues, which she considers to be crucial for the survival of democracy. In examining Nussbaum's use of Aristotle, I focus on her work as a proposal for institutional implementation of an Aristotelian epistemology and the cultivation of the individual as an ethical political subject. This study highlights the epistemological, educational and political ideas that form the basis of Nussbaum's ideals. I intend, however, to go beyond a contextualizing reading and thus establish a dialogue with a radical intersubjectivity to respond to Nussbaum's ambitions to recognize human vulnerabilities as assets for reason.

Six qualitative interviews with such professionals were performed and subsequently analyzed. Since the method of this study is qualitative, no claim of generalizability is made. The interview material has been categorized into themes by means of coding. The result of the study is presented according to those themes.

The purpose of this study is to examine teachers and school-leaders attitude to the school library. Both the cause of and the consequences of these attitudes are examined. In order to fulfil my purpose I have examined this through both literature and empirical studies. I have interviewed the headmaster, the school librarian and two teachers at two comprehensive schools. As theoretical framework I have used David Loertschers taxonomy containing theories about the levels in an ideal school library and Miles model of school development.

Bakgrund & frågeställning Sverigedemokraterna bildades1988 av tidigare aktiva inom nazistiska och fascistiska rörelser. Idag är partiet Sveriges tredje största. Partiets bakgrund, växande stöd och senaste framgångar i valet 2014 parallellt med uppmärksammande skandaler väckte nyfikenhet: Hur kommunicerar ett parti med så tydlig historia och en del ofördelaktiga avslöjanden för att bli accepterat? Avgränsning av kommunikationen gjordes till de tre valfilmerna som gjorts inför riksdagsvalen 2010 och 2014. Analysen redogör för hur olika element, retoriska och semiotiska, samverkar för att konstruera ett budskap, både implicit och explicit, för att övertyga.

The purpose of this study is to examine how EU-migrants visiting the social project Crossroads experience their life situation in the Swedish society. Two questions were formulated: (1) How do the respondents describe their situation when it comes to work, housing and social network? (2) How do the interviewees describe and experience the social project Crossroads? The method used was qualitative interviews conducted with five EU-migrants who visited Crossroads. The theoretical framework is the concept of integration and Bauböcks (1996) theoretical model of the ideal society. The results show that none of the interviewees had their own accommodation.

Syftet med det här arbetet är att försöka skapa processer och objekt sprungna ur humanistiska värderingar. Detta arbete kan vara ett sätt för mig att arbeta i framtiden, samt bli en del av designvärldens krav på goda processer och produkter.Jag har tagit fram ett humanistiskt designmanifest som jag förhåller mig till i arbetet och som jag gör kloka val utifrån. Jag har även tagit fram denna bok om min process som visar mina ideal och humana produkter. Boken, manifestet och produkterna bildar en helhet som förhoppningsvis gör arbetet viktigare i ett större filosofiskt sammanhang. Jag har skapat en bok, ett skåp, tre stolar, fyra lampor och ett skrivbord.Kopplingen är viktig mellan mina värderingar och produkter/boken/tankarna. Allt hör ihop. Jag har försökt nå ?alltet?.Jag har försökt finna vägledning av de humanistiska värderingarna genom den kreativa processen och detta är för mig ett filosofiskt ställningstagande.För att styrka arbetets process har jag försökt svara på olika filosofiska val, val om material, val om kulturhistoriska värden och val i livet man har som medmänniska.Detta arbetet är en humanistiskt filosofi om designprojekt..

Som skoglig sektorsmyndighet är det Skogsstyrelsens uppgift att omsätta regeringens skogspolitiska mål i praktiken. De behöver därför ha kunskap om deras arbete faktiskt ger effekter i skogsbruket. Ett verktyg för att undersöka effekter är utvärderingar. Genom en utvärdering kan Skogsstyrelsen se vilka effekterna är samt få ett underlag till att förändra och utveckla framtida projekt. Denna studie syftade till att utvärdera effekter hos deltagare avseende kunskapsinhämtning och användningsgrad samt deltagarnas upplevelse av vattenkvällarna i projektet Skogsbruk och vatten inom Landsbygdsprogrammet hos Skogsstyrelsen i Östergötland.

This essay conducts a descriptive analysis of the ideas expressed by NATO´s official security strategy "Strategic Concept" from 2010 and the European Union?s security strategy "A Secure Europe in a Better World" from 2003. The purpose of this analysis is to examine whether the ESDP and NATO are compatible with each other when it comes to the role of security policy actor. To do so, I´ve chosen to analyse the actors' security strategies based on three dimensions. These dimensions are: Their view of the international scene, their views on cooperation and their views on how to reach security.
