The Annexin-V/propidium iodide (AV/PI) assay detects early membrane changes in spermatozoa and viability using flow cytometry. It is an objective method that evaluates a much larger number of single spermatozoa compared with the usual estimation of motility, the most commonly used method for routine sperm evaluation. In the present study four ejaculates from four stallions were used in a split-sample design to investigate whether and how the number of intact spermatozoa is affected over time and after incubation at different temperatures, either those recorded during shipment of stallion semen for AI (9 or 5°C) or room temperature (20°C). The Annexin-V results did not reflect the motility results that were monitored in parallel. While motility decreased over time, the number of spermatozoa with intact membranes (viable) remained unchanged for at least 21 hours following a short period of initial instability.

GE Healthcare operates in Uppsala (Sweden) and develops systems, equipments and medium to purify medical substances. Discussions with the local authority concerning planed far-reaching changes and upgrades of the biological process techniques for sewage management, aroused the question about revising the terms of permit for the activity. Therefore it seemed necessary to evaluate a newly installed biological process technique, which is the background of this thesis. The evaluated biological treatment process was built in 2003 and consists of a biological reactor filled with moving bed carriers with a high surface area for biological growth. At the time of the project the biological wastewater treatment plant consisted of a flow equalization facility and two following parallel biological processes; a biological reactor with moving bed carriers and a tower trickling filter.The aim of this thesis was to survey the function of the biological reactor with respect to the reduction of organic matter.

REVAQ is a certification system that works to reduce the flow of hazardous substances to Swedish treatment plants and to create a sustainable nutrient recycling. To study and examine the work methods and operations of today and also to present methods measuring the operations effectiveness and productivity.We have used the system approach to maintain totality and to understand the component's relation to this totality. Field studies combined with studies of relevant literature and studies of other companies operations have given us the knowledge and the understanding of the packing operations needed.

The study was carried out at the Kungsängen Research Centre, Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences, Uppsala. The technical development in dairy production has resulted in a housing system where feeding and milking is done automatically without human contact, a so called automatic milking system. The motives for utilising an automatic milking system, is to increase the animal welfare and to decrease the need for manual labour. However, the system does involve a change for the animals, among the effects is the deprival or the diminishment of a chance for synchronous behaviour and the animals have to agree among themselves in which order they use the feeding stations and the milking unit itself. How and if this affects the animals well-being and production is yet to be solved. Syftet med studien är att undersöka vad som har studerats och uppmärksammas om metoden Att skriva sig till läsning samt undersöka lärares åsikter och uppfattningar om metoden och hur de använder datorn i undervisningen. Samt hur pedagoger i spänningsfältet mellan lärare, elev och en specifik metod uppfattar perspektivförskjutningen från läs-och skrivinlärning till skriv-och läsinlärning. Med studien synliggörs en beskrivning av metodens fördelar och nackdelar samt uppfattningar av metodens lämplighet för alla elever. Metoden som användes var kvalitativa intervjuer med lärare och en deltagande observation. Resultatet visade att lärarna var positiva till arbetssättet där de använder datorn som verktyg i läs-och skrivinlärningen.

During the past few years a vast amount of research has been done to increase the understanding of the complex ecosystem of the Baltic Sea. Modelling and simulations are important tools to increase knowledge of the system. A suitable model must be simple to use and the parameters and variables needed in the model must be easy to access.In this paper a dynamical mass-balance model, CoastMab, which is validated for smaller coastal areas, has been used to predict concentrations and transports of phosphorus in three large coastal areas - the Gulf of Finland, the Gulf of Gdansk and the Gulf of Riga. CoastMab uses ordinary differential equations to regulate inflow, outflow and internal flows. To reflect seasonal variations in temperature and different types of flows the model has a temporal resolution of a month.

Historically, much of the produced paper has been transported by vessels, as vessels allow large volumes of goods and deliveries to markets which are difficult to reach with other modes of transportation.

Moisture damage in buildings is a serious issue that leads to problematic consequences and high economic costs. Despite the knowledge and awareness existing about moisture problems, extensive damager still occurs today. Studies of moisture in the exterior wall constructions shows that the issue if often caused by rain and water intrusion. These kinds of problem result in major costs usually because the companies have to replace the material and structural components and also in some cases tear down large parts of the buildings.The work includes moisture theory and descriptions of four different exterior wall constructions, wood stud wall with plastered facade, exterior wall with wood facade, exterior wall with concrete, and exterior wall with brick facade. Our thesis work describes how the constructions are affected and moisture damage due to water intrusion.

Huvudsyftet var att ta reda på vad förskolebarn kan och tänker kring vattnets kretslopp och vattnets betydelse för allt liv på jorden. Samtidigt syftade undersökningen till att ta reda på pedagogernas arbetssätt och tankar kring dem. Undersökningen har genomförts med hjälp av kvalitativa intervjuer med såväl pedagoger som barn. Intervjuerna har spelats in och sedan transkribetats för att därefter analyseras. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att barnen har god kännedom om vattnets kretslopp och vattnets betydelse för livet på jorden.

This thesis, in the field of healthcare logistics, has been carried out at Hjärt- och Medicincentrum (HMC) at the University Hospital in Linköping during the fall and spring of 2012/2013. The thesis is done by two students at Linköping University at master?s level within the framework of Industrial Engineering and Management.As Sweden's county councils should not make a profit or loss, it is important that the councils are aware of how much care processes cost. Kardiologiska kliniken at HMC in Östergötland?s county council is one of the clinics that are profitable.

Denna rapport är resultatet av ett examensarbete utförts på Linköpings Universitet och Karlstads Universitet. Syftet med examensarbetet var att undersöka och vidareutveckla en befintlig färgbaserad GCR metod.GCR står för ?Grey Component Replacement? och är nödvändigt för att få korrekt färg i tryck. Givet ett C-, M- och Y-värde returnerade den undersökta metoden C?-, M?-, Y?- och K?-värden som var tänkt att ge samma färgintryck som i föregående fall.

Syftet med arbetet har varit att belysa PBL som didaktisk metod genom att undersöka hur tutorer upplever denna. Jag har genomfört åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer med tutorer vid läkarutbildningen i Lund. Sammanfattningsvis pekar resultatet av min undersökning på att PBL-metoden är en lämplig didaktisk metod på läkarutbildningen i Lund. De flesta tutorer tycker också att studenterna är positivt inställda till metoden och att de tar ett stort ansvar för sitt lärande. Gruppdynamiken och grupprocessen har mycket stor inverkan och betydelse för PBL-arbetet och den sociala processen spelar en framträdande roll för tutorernas positiva upplevelser av sin yrkesroll.

Purpose/Aim: To create a communication strategy for PADI Nordic with the intention of getting Swedish divers, who have been certified abroad, to Swedish dive centers.Material/Method: The study is based on a number of personal interviews conducted with a) divers who are active in Sweden, b) divers who are not active in Sweden and c) representatives from PADI and PADI affiliated dive centers.Main results: The main reason that people who have been certified abroad do not dive in Sweden is that they regard it as being too complicated, too cold, too expensive and with nothing interesting to see. These might partly be misconceptions that can be corrected through a communication strategic effort. The best way to change this perception is by two different forms of communication. One will go from PADI Nordic straight to the divers through an email. This will have the purpose of getting their attention, making diving sound interesting and raise their awareness in preparation for the other part of the process.
