The recent decades have been characterised by a trend where the public sector's been inspired by several methods and strategies from the private sector. The public library is in this case no exception. In this context there are different perspectives on whether or not this will lead to a dramatic change of the role and values of the traditional public library. The aim of this master's thesis is to make a contribution to a deeper understanding of the ideological conflicts within the Swedish public library and its relation to the market. In the literature of library and information science I have identified two separate discourses representing two contradictory systems of meaning concerning this relation.

I denna rapport undersöks hur mängden organiskt kol, TOC (Totalt organiskt kol), varierar i tid och rum i Mälarens avrinningsområde, samt vad det är som styr TOC-halten i Mälaren. Det är viktigt att förstå dynamiken hos TOC i Mälaren och i dess avrinningsområde eftersom ökat TOC i vattnet påverkar vattenkvaliteten och orsakar problem vid beredning av dricksvatten. TOC kan bland annat reagera med klor/UV-ljus och bilda cancerframkallande ämnen. Det kan också öka antal mikrober i vattnets distributionssystem.Arbetet omfattar analys av samband mellan elementen, transportberäkningar per ytenhet av elementen till Mälaren och en modelleringsansats för ett av avrinningsområdena. Rapporten innehåller även en jämförelse mellan de olika vattenföringsmodellerna samt uppmätt vattenföring för analys av eventuella systematiska skillnader mellan dessa som påverkar beräkningen av TOC och de andra elementens transport till Mälaren.Analysen av sambanden mellan variablerna TOC (mg/l), kaliumpermanganat förbrukning (KMnO4, mg/l), absorbans_F (F=filtrerad), järn (mg/l), mangan (mg/l) och SO4_IC (sulfat mätt med hjälp av jonkromatografi, mg/l), visade att vissa av dessa variabler är korrelerade med varandra.

This essay is essentially an analytical comparison of economic and democratic values. The purpose of this is to understand whether or not a conflictof values is in effect, given that democratic values have been expressed as highly desirable and in need of reinforcement while simultaneously economic values in the shape of New Public Management enjoy widespread acceptance andimplementation.Denna text utgör ett försök att ställa demokratiska och ekonomiska värden mot varandra för att se om värdekonflikt föreligger i en situation då demokratiska värden uttryckts som önskvärda och i behov av förstärkning och där New PublicManagement, ett reformprogram som i grunden utgör ett försök att införa mekanismer för styrning och organisation som byggts på marknadsekonomiska värderingsprinciper i stor omfattning genomdrivits inom offentlig sektor. I texten förs ett resonemang som når fram till slutsatsen att en värdekonflikt faktiskt på sätt och vis kan sägas föreligga mellan demokratiska och ekonomiska värdena om ekonomisk effektivitet inom offentlig sektor behandlas mindre som ett medel för demokrati, än som ett mål i sig självt. En stor förändring som har skett inom den offentliga sektorn sedan 1980-talet är synen på hur man bäst effektiviserar verksamheten. Kommunerna riktade blickar mot företagsvärlden där företagsidealet utmärkte sig som det ideala och optimala för effektivisering. En rad olika teorier om hur man bäst effektiviserar den offentliga sektorn som inbegrips under new public management kom att realiseras under 1990-talet. Med bakgrund av den nya styrningen i form av beställar- utförarmodellen som ett led i new public management har syftet med denna uppsats varit att studera i vilken utsträckning tjänstemännen utövar makt genom att studera ett fall och den beslutsprocess som föranledde det. Vidare har syftet varit att studera på vilket sätt tjänstemannamakten utgör ett demokratiskt problem.

CTI- Central Tire Inflation är ett styr- och reglersystem som möjliggör att justera lufttrycket i däcken under färd på virkeslastbilar för att anpassa det till aktuell last och hastighet. Genom att köra med ett lägre däcktryck på virkesfordon är det möjligt att minska kostnaden för skogsbilvägar. SCA Skog vill skapa en CTI-strategi som ska innehålla handlingsplaner för hela kedjan från planering till transport. År 2009 minskade investeringsanslagen för vägar inom SCA Skog och Medelpads skogsförvaltning började bygga vägar som trafikeras av CTI-utrustade fordon. Syftet med arbetet är att utvärdera användningen av CTI åt SCA skog vid Medelpads skogsförvaltning. Datainsamlingen utgjordes av intervjuer med personer vid SCA som har arbetat med CTI någon gång sedan införandet. Totalt intervjuades elva personer. Ett arbetssätt för CTI identifierades.

The main aim of this paper is to illurninate how a group of immigrants meet the publiclibrary in Sweden. I have chosen to discuss Iranian immigrants' meeting with the publiclibrary in Borås. The investigation (qualitative interviews and inquiries) has taken placein the public library of Borås and partly in a local library with high density of immigrants.A theoretical perspective deals with the case study of dual marginality, where theconception of the "Marginal Man" or "The Outsider" is central. The aim of this thesis is to investigate and increase the understanding of a present function of today´s public library, namely the function of meeting place; here called the social function or social space. Two small town libraries are included in the study, and the questions examined are:How is this function described at the two libraries and what similarities and differences are there between the two? How can one describe the relation between how the library as social space is described in research and at the libraries? The theoretical framework used in examining these questions, consists of three different discourses in culture policy (the discourse of state, market and civil society) and theories on civil society and the public library. A summary of current research makes visible eight different aspects of the public library as a social space. These aspects functions as parts of the theoretical framework as well.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate what chief librarians in Sweden know about the present education in Library and Information Science and what opinions they have of it. We have used the following four questions as a starting point for our work: + How much do the chief librarians know about the education in Library and Information Science? + What are their opinions of the education? + What emphasis do they put on academic degrees and practical experience? + Are there any differences between various kinds of libraries regarding these issues? We decided to use questionnaires to gather our information. These were sent to 200 chief librarians on both public and research libraries all over Sweden. 151 of the questionnaires were answered.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the underlying causes for the opening of Karlstad Public Library. In doing so a theory based on the actor/structure model within social theory is used. The structures and actors are intertwined and therefore need to be analysed together. To do so the theory poses a series of questions that needs to be answered. The method used is document analysis.

Public libraries have an important roll of making information accessible to all people. This democratic right supports the cultural development in our society. When public libraries build websites offering information and services it can sometimes cause obstacles for impaired users. It is therefore our purpose to evaluate a selection of websites and library plans to examine how the libraries work with accessibility for these users. This thesis is based on theories of cognitive and human computer interaction, and information architecture.

Today sportsclubs are important actors in the work with promoting public health in Sweden. Sports have unique opportunities to reach out with messages to many people with diffrent backgrounds. In many respects sport- and clublife could be looked upon as health promotiv activiteis. It is not just the health of the individual that is affected by sportslife but also the community take advantage of active people in clubs. Partly through a healthier population and partly because clubs educational role in teaching democracy and solidarity to its members.

Avfall i stort har fått en annan innebörd i dag jämfört med tidigare decennier i och med att det nu går att återanvända, återvinna och utvinna energi ur det. Gips är ett avfall som förekommer som brandskydd i stor omfattning och förut gick majoriteten på deponi. Nya alternativ har dykt upp det är dock fortfarande mycket som går på deponi och det medför miljöproblem, främst i form av läckage av svavel.Syftet med studien var att genom telefonintervjuer se hur hanteringen av gipsavfall uppfattas av aktörer inom byggbranschen, hantering och transport av avfall och olika återvinningscentraler. Men även att se vilka miljörisker de olika aktörerna anser att gipsavfall kan leda till. De aktörer som intervjuades var inom området bygg; NCC, inom området hantering och transport av avfall; Sita och Ragn-Sells, inom området återvinningscentraler; en återvinningscentral från Uppsala och en från Malmö.Slutsatsen blev att aktörerna först och främst försöker återvinna gipset, går inte det är det deponering som är det sätt varpå gipsavfall hanteras.
