This thesis investigates how the level of implementation of New Public Management affects an organization?s efficiency. According to theory, a high level of implementation leads to a more efficient organization. This thesis is based on two case studies conducted on two units within Stockholms Stad. One of the units shows a high level of implementation of NPM and a high level of efficiency.

Syftet med studien är att belysa barnombudens roll på respektive anstalt och hur den rollen regleras utifrån kriminalvårdens regelverk samt de enskilda anstalternas begränsningar. Vi kommer undersöka skillnaderna mellan de generella riktlinjerna mot det faktiska arbetet. Detta görs utifrån tre frågeställningar som behandlar deras riktlinjer, deras faktiska arbete samt möjligheten att utföra sitt uppdrag. Detta studeras genom en kvalitativ metod med induktiv ansats där sex personer intervjuas varav tre på deras arbetsplats och tre stycken per telefon. Frågeställningarna användes som teman i intervjuerna.Resultatavsnittet kallas för ?Redovisning av intervjuerna? och sammanfattar varje ombud under en egen rubrik då den enskildes perspektiv på uppdraget lyfts fram.

This study is based on interviews with four managers in public elderly care and four managers in private elderly care. The aim of this paper is to examine how these managers are experiencing their leadership in relation to conflict management, and if the managers leadership differs depending on private or public elderly care. Leadership and conflict management are theories that have been used in order to analyze the empirical findings. Previous research that has been used in the study concerns ?leadership/leadership styles?, ?conflict management?, ?to be active in the private/public elderly care?.

The thesis treats how the German public libraries originated and how they were affected by the Nazi era. It deals with how the library system began to cover the whole nation, and describes the struggle between public libraries and commercial and religious ditto. It also treats the weedings out and what happened to the staff and the stocks between 1933 and 1945.Furthermore it gives a picture of what books one could find in a German public library,and how these volumes were catalogued and classified. Moreover it describes how thelibraries managed during the Second World War, and ends by giving some topics fordiscussion and asks questions that additional research might be able to answer..

The purpose of this master thesis is to study the correlation and meaning of current ideas and practice at the public library of Gothenburg. This was done by comparing the visions and ideas expressed by the library through the library plan, with how the daily practice looks. For the theoretical framework organizational theory is used and research data was collected both from public documents and through observations. The public library of Gothenburg were chosen for the study because of it's newly renovated facilities. The idea is that these facilities make a suitable study object of the current ideas and priorities of the public Swedish library in general.The results show that the public library practice in Sweden still rests on the original public library ideas such as offering information for free and treating every user as equal.

Through our study we have found that there are moresimilarities than differences in leadership styles. The dominant leadership style of managers in both private and public sector is the democratic leadership style, often in combination with other styles; most notably the authoritarian leadership style. The bachelor thesis examines conceptions behind the Swedish public librarian?s opinions of the public library as a meeting place. The study uses the critical discourse analysis, developed by Ernest Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, to analyze a focus group interview. The discourse analysis identifies four themes in the empirical material: the imagined arena of the meeting place, the behaviour in the meeting place, the meeting place?s librarian and the polemic against the meeting place.

The aim of this master thesis?s is to examine what functions writing activities can have in the public library. Some public libraries offer their visitors writing activities, for example courses and camps. The public library is an institution with a particular identity, with special norms and properties which participants within the institution construct and reproduce. The main question of this thesis is to investigate how writing activities can be a part of the public library?s institutional identity and what functions writing activities in the public library can have.

This thesis is a cultural theoretical case study of the art project (O)önskad samhällsförbättring.Via an analysis of the project, that is based on theories of power, resistance and contemporaryurban development, it examines the construction of urban space, its impact on public art including the ability of art to initiate evolvement of the urban public space.The last decades art has plaid an important role in what is called the creative city; to become attractive nodal points of the global economy, larger cities increasingly invest in art,culture and creative industry. Simultaneously the urban public space is limited to activitiesand expressions of art that are presumed to create economic growth. This introduces animpression of what is allowed and what is not allowed, possible and not possible, wished andnot wished which, as a consequence, evolves the public space. The events during the artproject and the reactions that followed enlightened these limitations. This tells a story, not only about the structuring process of the local urban space, but also important changes that are created as a simultaneous effect at different levels in society, as well locally as globally.

Att vara enhetschef för dagens äldreomsorg beskrivs ofta inte var lätt. Uppdraget innebär en balansgång mellan olika förväntningar från olika aktörer som befinner sig på olika nivåer. Media rapporterar inte allt för sällan om fall av vanvård och ständiga ekonomiska besparingar inom dagens äldreomsorg. Tidigare forskning har visat på att uppdraget kan vara världens bästa men också omöjligt och det finns svårigheter att rekrytera bra personer. Denna uppsats syftar till att undersöka inställningen som enhetschefer inom äldreomsorgens hemtjänst har till sina uppdrag.

Studien gjordes i syfte att undersöka hur familjehemsföräldrar kan uppleva att deras uppdrag som familjehem påverkar dem själva, deras biologiska barn och deras relationer. Fokusgruppsintervjuer genomfördes med två grupper innehållande fem familjehemsföräldrar i varje grupp. Fokusgrupperna bestod av fem kvinnor och fem män emellan 33 och 61 år. En intervjuguide och en mindre enkät skapades och användes under intervjuerna som spelades in på ljudfiler. Databearbetningen bestod av en fenomenologisk, hermeneutisk analysmetod.

This Master Thesis aims to study and discuss the occurence of three concepts in some influential cultural policy documents which includes the UNESCO public library manifesto, the Swedish libraries act, the Swedish cultural policy objectives, and a study from the mid nineties which deals with the cultural policy. The questions asked are: -Do the documents mention democracy? In what way? -Do the documents mention the public sphere? In what way? -Do the documents mention information? In what way? -How can we understand the content of the documents through relevant theories about democracy, the public sphere and information? Theories about the information society are used, as well as theories from Jürgen Habermas, Herbert Schiller and Robert Dahl. The way of method is document studies and abduktion, with influences from hermeneutic theory. The analysis deals with the documents through these concepts: democracy, the public sphere and information and puts forward the content, or lack of content, about democracy in the analysed material.

Hälsoinspiratörer används som en strategi i syfte att medverka i utvecklingen av förvaltningens hälsofrämjande arbete bland annat genom att inspirera kollegor till sundare levnadsvanor och initiera friskvårdsaktiviteter på arbetsplatsen. Bakgrunden till uppdraget ligger i förvaltningarnas intresse att på ett främjande sätt hålla medarbetarna friska för att kunna fortsätta bedriva sina verksamheter.Studiens syfte är att undersöka hur hälsoinspiratörerna uppfattar sina förutsättningar i termer av chefens och kollegors stöd och engagemang samt hur handlingsutrymmet ser ut för en vald stadsdelsförvaltnings hälsoinspiratörer.Teori och tidigare forskning: Teori och tidigare forskning utgår från hur socialt stöd från både chef och kollegor påverkar individer i dess arbete. Vidare presenteras hälsofrämjande ledarskap som en form av stöd för hälsoinspiratörer samt hur delaktighet, tillgänglighet och legitimitet kan ge påverkan på individers uppdrag.Studien är kvalitativ där intervjuteknik har valts som metod. Materialet består av fem halvstrukturerade intervjuer där aktiva hälsoinspiratörer från en av Göteborgs stads stadsdelsförvaltnings utbildningssektor intervjuats. De tre centrala teman som framkommit under intervjuerna har ställts mot min teoretiska referensram för att få en djupare förståelse kring resultatet.Resultatet från studien visade att vare sig det gäller chefens eller kollegors stöd så har det en stor betydelse för genomförandet av uppdraget enligt hälsoinspiratörernas uppfattningar.

The aim of this Master's thesis is to explore the function of public libraries as arenas for young people's artistic creations. It examines how the public library makes activities based on independent creativity visible, and what activities of this sort imply to the public library. The thesis also relates this to the public library's task in society. The main object of examination is Demoteket, an on-going project in the south-eastern parts of Sweden. In this project Länsbibliotek Sydost co-operates with Reaktor Sydost, a centre of resource in the fields of young communication and filmmaking.

The public health care sector has come under increasing pressure to cut down costs, maximize productivity and satisfy patients' needs during the 1990s and onwards. As a way of "getting more for less" quality management has been introduced. Originating in the private manufacturing industry, quality management has a strong focus on productivity and efficiency, aspects which are measured in quantitative terms. However, there are strong concerns that quality management is a means of speeding up the marketization of public health care by introducing core values much different from the ethic and medical norms that traditionally underpin health care organizations.This essay focuses on how quality management has been introduced to, and transformed by, public health care. A theoretical framework based on new institutionalism is constructed, and translation theories are used as a way of illustrating how the medical institutional environment, in fact, changes the concept of quality management.
