This paper follows an analytical and critical line of reasoning concerningindexing and retrieval of music in Swedish public libraries. The focus ofthe discussion is based on the terms included in the subject heading list ofthe Swedish Classification System. The empirical study is performed inthe context of online catalogues in the public libraries of Örebro andGävle. The theoretical background relies on the indexing theory ofProfessor Frederick W. Lancaster.

The Bachelor thesis ?Oh, it?s only student radio? is a qualitative study of the Swedish student radio and its members. The study aims to investigate the professionalisation of the radio hosts through Pierre Bourdieu?s theories of field and habitus as well as theories of profession. In order to do so, it?s also necessary to establish the radiostations? perceived role in today?s media landscape by analysing their ambition in relation to other media organisations.

The purpose for this Master?s thesis is to describe the similarities and the differences of the work at the public libraries? children?s sections, between Sweden and Italy. In order to do that we examine the cultural political presumptions that Swedish and Italian libraries have, such as policies concerning public libraries and children, on a national as well as an international level. We also look at existing attitudes regarding the work at the public libraries? children?s sections, among authors of research literature in our subject.

1.1 billion people are today living without sustainable access to improved water. The debate over the water sector has been dominated by the discussion over whether public or private actors are the most competent to manage it. In this paper the arguments pro and contra the two positions are presented to try to overview the debate and to try to find new ways to approach the question of the people living without clean water. By examining possible alternatives towards the discussion of public and private actors, it might result in some new approaches on how to move closer towards a solution. One alternative is local, small- scale projects which focus on the situation of the targetgroup in most need.

Jan Wallander hävdar att budgeten är ett onödigt ont, vilket fick oss att fundera över om det finns någon sanning i detta uttalande eller om de som är kritiska till budgeten har använt den på ett felaktigt sätt, som den inte kan eller ska användas till. Detta gjorde att vi fann ett intresse i att beskriva budgetens funktion i kommuner, privata företag och i de ideella föreningarna samt att förklara skillnader i budgetens funktion mellan de nämnda organisationsformerna.I vår studie har vi formulerat ett antal hypoteser vilka alla har sin utgångspunkt från någon av våra teorier, som är Institutionellteori, New Public Management vilken dock inte är en teori i ordets bemärkelse utan en filosofi, vilken mycket kortfattat går ut på att kommuner efterliknar privata företag. Anledningen till att vi presenterar denna filosofi bland teorierna är att den precis som teorierna i övrigt ska hjälpa till att beskriva budgetens funktion i de nämnda organisationsformerna. Ytterligare teorier som presenteras är Agentteorin, Incremental budgeting samt Intressentteorin.För att operationalisera uppsatsens syfte gjorde vi en surveyundersökning i form av datorenkäter där respondenterna rangordnade elva budgetfunktioner. Resultaten påvisar att budgetfunktionen varierar på grund av organisationens storlek inom varje organisations form, att budgetfunktion är lika i offentliga och i privata organisationer, att kommuner med höger majoritet är mer lika privata företag, att i offentliga organisationer är budgetens roll mer planerings funktion, än uppföljnings funktion, samt att budgeten används som argument för resursanskaffning i ideella föreningar.

Social networks have increased significantly during the latest decades, but what does the cooperation include and how does the network processes look like? Networks are not specific for communities in the 2000?s or for that matter human organisations, but the ability to build networks and introduce more actors to the organisation have become easier with today?s communication technology. The study is about the Norrköping Municipality membership in the transnational network Sweden Emilia Romagna Network (SERN). It gives an insight into how networking and cooperation can be seen by politicians and officials, based on mission statements and the reason why a municipality choose to participate in transnational networks. The study aims to examine how Norrköping Municipality uses the SERN network and what the network have resulted in since the beginning of the municipality membership in 2005. It is a qualitative study which involves interviews with officials and politicians from the Municipality of Norrköping and textual material from SERN?s strategy documents and policies.

This thesis examines art exhibitions, literature events and music events in public libraries in Sweden. The aim is to study which event occurs most in the libraries in Sweden. I also examine who takes responsibility for the events, who the libraries engage, how much the events cost, and how often the libraries have the events. I also study Swedish cultural politics in purpose to see if the libraries follow the aims and directions decided by the Swedish government. One aim of the Swedish culture politic is to give every citizen in Sweden the same possibility to experience culture, no matter where they live.

AbstractSince the Act Regarding Support and Service to Certain Functionally Handicapped Persons (LSS) were introduced in 1994, social care and service have increased inSweden(SFS 1993:387). The implementation of the act has caused many changes and also progress within the social care system. One main change is the division between public (provided by the municipalities) and private care providers. This division has led to many questions about how leadership is organized within different public and private organizations.The purpose of this study is to investigate differences between leader?s experiences of their role and working conditions within private and public assistance care for disabled.

Flera olika studier visar att det finns brister i de insatser som kommunerna erbjuder barn som upplever våld, detta trots att regeringen skärpt lagstiftningen för målgruppen. Några kommuner i Sverige har börjat använda en ny metod, Kids club, som specifikt är utformad för gruppen barn som upplevt våld. Vårt syfte med uppsatsen är att genom att undersöka motiven till att kommuner vill implementera en ny metod för barn som upplevt våld, Kids club, förstå vilken form av motivation som ligger till grund för denna vilja. Uppsatsen har en kvalitativ ansats, där vi genom att genomföra intervjuer med representanter från olika kommuner skapar förståelse för motiven bakom implementering av Kids club. De slutsatser vi fann i uppsatsen är att det finns två teman bakom motiven, dels enskilda personers motiv samt kommunen som organisations motiv.

The focus of this two year master?s thesis in Library- and Information science is the study of two Swedish Public Library buildings with the examples Lomma and Halmstad. The main goal and purpose of the thesis is to try to uncover which views and values of the public library are expressed in the examined libraries; and to what extent these views manifests are shown in its architecture.The theoretical framework is based on Raymond Williams?s cultural concepts of effective, dominant culture and the two extremities of this culture, called residual and emergent cultures. A second aspect is Yi-Fu Tuans concepts of Space and Place.

The question of the provision of electronic books in Swedish public libraries has lately evolved into a lively debate in Swedish media, where the public library?s identity and itsexpected role as a democratic institution is an underlying topic. The aim of this bachelorthesis is to examine the idea of the public library?s identity as expressed in newspaperand journal articles by writers connected to the library sector. The aim is achieved byexamining the language-use and identifying discourses in the debate.

This master?s thesis attends to a debate in the Swedish daily press concerning the public library which arose after the Swedish Moderate Party?s publication of their cultural political document Kulturen 2.0. This document contains a number of standpoints, of which three directly concern the public library: charges on book loans, libraries on contract and politically balanced purchase policy. In all, 28 articles are examined by means of an idea and ideological analysis. The purpose is to find out what is behind the conflicts surrounding attitudes about the public library's mission and activity in an era of needs for change.

Med ursprung i den privata sektorn introducerades i slutet av 80-talet nya organisationsidéer, New Public Management, som strävar efter att ta till vara på ekonomiska värden. Vissa forskare har sedan dess oroat sig för att detta underminerar de normer som tidigare dominerat offentliga sektorn. Lennart Lundquist hävdar att det gått så långt att dessa värden influerat politiker och tjänstemän till den grad att det hotar demokratin.Denna uppsats fokuserar på hur Beställar-utförarmodellen och kontraktering till privata vårdproducenter har påverkat demokratiska värden såsom ansvarsutkrävande, insyn och politiskt styrning. Med Lundquists teori i ryggen har vi genomfört en fallstudie av ett sjukvårdsdistrikt i Region Skåne som har lång erfarenhet av arbete med privata vårdproducenter.

This graduate thesis is engaged with perceived safety and "safe making" design in public places. Despite the fact that we have never been as safe, questions of safety get more attention than ever in today?s society. Public demands for safer and more secure environments and low levels of experienced feelings of safety indicate problems in society that can shrink people's usage of public places as well as their quality of life. Through methodical exaggeration of danger and legislation of laws, the state creates a situation that in different respect work to overprotect the citizens, who are not unlikely to experience feelings of being unsafe at the same time that the actual safety is to big. An expansion of protection against fear can unlike what was first intended decrease the experience of safety.
