Bestämning av syntetiska cannabinoider med gaskromatografi-masspektrometri
This thesis has been performed at Clinical Chemistry at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. The purpose of the project was to investigate new and alternative ways to determinate synthetic cannabinoids by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Currently, the possibilities to quantify synthetic cannabinoids are very limited. This can lead to an increased use of synthetic cannabinoids as the risk of detection is low, which may be known by drug users. The synthetic cannabinoids are sold mixed with different herbs and have varying names like Spice Gold, Spice Silver, K2, Smoke and Pot-pourri.The synthetic cannabinoids analyzed were JWH-018 and JWH-073, which are commonly found in seized Spice material.

This master thesis is made of two parts. The first part concerns the method and results ofdesigning a motion control system for a piece of research-equipment called BIRGIT. Theequipment is made to be used for research on eyemovements. In the second part, a computermodel of a part of the balance organ in the inner-ear is developed. The work has been done atthe Bernadotte laboratory at S:t Erik Eye Hospital.The equipment the control system is made for is a so-called rotationchair.
Iron bioavailability and pro- and prebiotics
Iron deficiency is one of the most frequent micronutrient deficiencies around the world. Low iron bioavailability simultaneously with a high iron requirement is a high risk factor for developing iron deficiency. Probiotics are microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host. Prebiotics are oligosaccharides which provide a health benefit on the host due to a positive modulation of the microflora in the gut. The aim of this paper is to evaluate if there is a connection between pro-and/or prebiotics and iron bioavailability.

This article presents a survey of male dogs treated with the gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist deslorelin (Suprelorin®, Virbac) at three animal clinics in central Sweden. Filled-in questionnaires from 110 dogs were received. The paper also includes a review of existing litterature concerning reproduction in male dogs, focusing on endocrinology, the effects of gonadectomy and the GnRH agonist deslorelin.
Continuous treatment with deslorelin produces infertility in male dogs. The pituitary is
initially stimulated by deslorelin leading to a rise in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion. As a consequence the testosterone levels also increase temporarily.

We have made a litterature study about pain in animals. In this studie we have brought up
areas like sign of pains in animals, pain relief and the care perspective.
Pain is perceived when body tissue is damaged or nearly damaged by stimuli. Nociceptors,
which are receptors placed at nerve endings, responds to a provocation of pain and
transmit an impulse along the nerve to the brain via the spinal cord. Pain is urgent or
chronic, and can be divided into nociceptive pain (somatic pain and visceral pain) and
neuropathic pain. Different pain mechanisms can arise, such as referred pain, which is
when signals of pain are referred to other parts of the body.

Working as a veterinary nurse includes advising animal owners, helping them to make discisions through well-based facts and experience. Preemptive spaying of the healthy bitch brings many advantages and disadvantages. It leads to cessation of gonadal hormone production, and how the exact extent the surgery affects the dog is not yet fully understood. The sex hormones mainly control the reproductive system, but receptors of these hormones are found in many tissues of the body, and have complex relationships with other hormone systems. Spaying decreases the metabolism although the bitch gets an increased appetite, which enhance the risk of obesity, unless the owner restricts food intake.

IntroductionTactile Massage is a generic term that for example includes Massage therapy, Effleurage, Gentle touch, Tactile stimulation, Soft massage and Aromatherapy massage (SBU 2009). Tactile Massage has been proven to activate the perception receptors of the body and stimulates the system of oxytocin and in that way Tactile massage increase wellbeing and decrease pain. The Church of Sweden was formally separated from the state in the year of 2000 and by this means created greater freedom in facilitating its own social and Deaconal programs in separate parishes. Since 2004 a few numbers of deacons have been integrating Tactile massage as a method in Deaconal ministry within the framework of holistic care in the Church of Sweden.Aim/Research questionsThe aim: From a holistic perspective investigate the use of and to increase the problem-awareness of Tactile massage in the Deaconal ministry within the Church of Sweden.The research questions: How is Tactile massage being used and how are we to describe the experiences of Tactile massage in the Deaconal ministry? Förlust av tolerans vid inflammatory bowel disease på hund?
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) är ett samlingsnamn för en grupp inflammatoriska tarmsjukdomar och en av de vanligaste orsakerna till kroniska mag-tarmsymtom hos hund. Orsakerna till IBD är inte helt fastställda men tarmslemhinnans immunförsvar, bakterieflora, genetiska faktorer och miljöfaktorer anses vara centrala för tillståndet. En av de mest utbredda uppfattningarna är att sjukdomen uppkommer som ett resultat av bristande immunologisk tolerans som gör att immunförsvaret felaktigt går till attack mot harmlösa antigen.
Syftet med den här litteraturstudien var att undersöka vilken roll Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) har i IBD, hur tarmbarriären påverkar risken för sjukdomen, vilka förändringar av tarmfloran som setts hos IBD-hundar och hur floran påverkar sjukdomsuppkomst.
Litteraturen menar att en defekt tarmbarriär är en av de nyckelfaktorer som hör ihop med IBD. Ökad permeabilitet i tarmen kan öka exponeringen, och därmed interaktion, mellan antigen och immunförsvar vilket inducerar inflammation. Oavsett om en defekt tarmbarriär uppkommer som en effekt av sjukdomen eller om det är en direkt orsak till IBD så är det troligen viktigt för att det ska bli kroniskt.
Serotonins funktion i hundens kardiovaskulära system
Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamin, 5-HT) är en neurotransmittor som till största del syntetiseras i tarmsystemets enterokromaffina celler (en typ av neuroendokrin cell) men även på andra platser i kroppen så som i hjärnstammen, till viss del i hjärtat, lungorna och njurarna.
I hundens kropp har serotonin en rad olika funktioner så som reglering av tarmmotorik och sammandragning av glatt muskulatur. Det kan även ha inverkan på sinnestillstånd och
kognition. Serotonin kan på olika sätt förstärka eller hämma nervimpulser och därigenom ha stor påverkan på kroppens olika system kopplade till neurologisk verksamhet och dess funktioner.
I den fria cirkulationen finns serotonin i trombocyter och vid en kärlskada kan serotonin släppas ut av trombocyterna och orsaka förändringar i deras struktur och även verka på det skadade kärlet genom att orsaka exempelvis kärlsammandragning.
Serotonins specifika receptorer har blivit uppdelade i sju huvudfamiljer, 5-HT1-7. De flesta receptorfamiljerna har vidare blivit uppdelade i flera underfamiljer. De olika receptorerna finns i olika uppsättning på olika platser i hundens kropp och beroende på vart receptorn finns och i vilken mängd kan konsekvenserna till följd av aktiverade receptorer vara olika.
