Botswana anses vara en fungerande demokrati. Landet omnämns ofta som Afrikas mirakel. Vi har valt att utifrån Robert Dahls teori om Polyarki granska och belysa Botswanas demokratiska brister. Som komplement till Dahls teori används även Andreas Schedlers sju kriterier för demokratiska val.Det resultat som presenteras genom tillämpning av dessa teorier visar att det råder klara brister i Botswanas demokratisering. Analysdelen av arbetet belyser de problem som finns inom politiska rättigheter, såsom medborgarskapsrättigheter, mötesfrihet samt åsikts- och yttrandefrihet.

Partiets namn var fram till 1990 Vänsterpartiet kommunisterna (VPK). Denna bakgrund har påverkat andra partiers syn på arenan runt och inom Vänsterpartiet vilket innebär att deras demokratisyn har ifrågasatts. När frågan om demokrati kommer på tal, så skapades ett intresse hos oss som uppsatsskribenter hur idéer om demokrati inom Vänsterpartiet kan beskrivas. Då partiet genom tiderna hävdat att de är goda demokrater, men med ett fördjupat innehåll. Denna uppsats vetenskapliga bidrag är att svara på frågan om Vänsterpartiet kan tillskrivas en innehållslig demokratiuppfattning år 2014, denna fråga är extra intressant då en innehållslig demokratisk agenda ibland likställs med en odemokratisk agenda.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka bakomliggande faktorer som sätter käppar i hjulen för demokratiseringsprocessen i Azerbaijan. Med hjälp av rapporter från olika internationella organisationer, såsom Freedom House ser jag landets demokratiska utveckling och fungerande. Jag använt mig av den teoribekräftande fallstudien där jag applicerar demokratiseringsteorin på fallet i Azerbaijan. Freedom House rapport ? Nations in Transit? i Azerbaijan 2011 kan man förknipa med Robert Dahls Polyarki begrepp. Polyarkibegreppet bygger på två grundelement: medverkan och tävlan eller konkurrens.

Since the nineteen-fifties, the American political scientist Robert Dahl (born in 1915) has been one of the most prominent democracy theorists in the world. In the book Politics, Economics, and Welfare, he and his colleague Charles E. Lindblom in 1953 introduced the notion of polyarchy as a denomination for the incomplete democracies of the Western world. Linguistically speaking, this notion was formed in connection with the ones already existing in the philosopher Aristotle's (384-322 B.C.) comparative teachings on government. Later, it has become apparent that the notion of polyarchy has already been in use by other authors, such as Johannes Althusius (1614) and Sir Ernest Barker (1947).Robert Dahl has been active at Yale University (in New Haven, Connecticut, USA), and is regarded as one of the foremost representatives of the political-science discipline known as pluralism.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the level of democracy within the European Union (EU). To do so the following issues were examined: How the EU works and the efforts it has made to improve levels of democracy; and the degree to which the EU fulfils the criteria set by Robert Dahl in his theory of polyarchy.The study is based on a qualitative text analysis. The focus of the analysis is documents released by the EU that can be connected to democracy, and human and fundamental rights. The theory of polyarchy proposed by Robert Dahl and Joseph Schumpeter?s theory of democracy are the principal theories applied.

The purpose of this study is to examine the actual political conditions that exist for the Iranian women. What is the political reality of the Iranian women and how can they exert political influence within the political system that exists in Iran today. This is done to see how the Iranian women's potential political influence affects Iran's democratic status. This will be answered through the overall research question: What opportunities do the Iranian women have to influence policy? This overall question is then split into three smaller research questions:1) What formal possibilities to political influence do the Iranian women have?2) What real possibilities to political influence do the Iranian women have?3) How have women in Iran tried to exert political influence outside the institutional framework?This will be done through a qualitative text analysis where texts concerning the Iranian women?s political influence are examined.

Under Gulfkriget växte en diktatur fram i Irak som världen lärde känna som Baathregimen. Denna styrdes av Saddam Hussein och hans inre cirkel, som behöll sitt maktmonopol genom upprepade våldshandlingar och hård kontroll över medborgarna. De demokratiska rättigheter som vi i västvärldens demokratier tagit som självklarheter var här inte så självklara. USA tog på sig rollen att avlägsna Saddam Husseins regim och bidra till att en demokratisk regering inrättades. Vid krigsslutet den 1 maj 2003 hade regimen fallit och Irak låg i händerna på ockupationsmakten.
