Effektivisering av en administrativ process
For a long time Lean has been a well-known concept among manufacturers. Theinterest of understanding Lean and the ability to implement it is common amongcompanies. The concept of Lean, used in the right way, can help companies to reducetheir lead times, their complexity and increase the efficiency of the working processes(Hyer och Wemmerlöv, 2002). Unfortunately the work towards increased efficiencyhas primarily been focused on manufacturing and plant work, resulting in that Leanhas been adjusted to these areas. The conclusion of this is that companies don´tprioritize to improve processes such as administrative ones.
Utvärdering av VAV i nybyggt kontorshus
VAV (Variable Air Volume) system has been studied in a newly constructed office-building. The goal for the study has been to evaluate how the ventilations system work in practice, if adjustments can be made to achieve an more energy efficient system and to evaluate if other alternative ventilation systems is to be preferred in the further.The degree project has been executed at Helenius Engineering Firm who is working with the environment, media systems, HVAC and energy in buildings. The building that has been studied is owned and operated by Akademiska hus.Literature studies, visits at site, inventory, review of system documentation, energy analyses, interviews, key figures, LCC, sand energy- and indoor climate simulations has been made to study the building. Where appropriate some tools from Six Sigma have also been used.How to achieve an energy efficient system and a pleasant indoor climate is studied with human health and well-being as base for the indoor climate requirements. Technical support systems such as ventilation systems have to be designed so that an acceptable indoor climate can be achieved.
Förbättrat råvaruutnyttjande vid kvalitets-sortering av timmer : utvärdering av analysprogrammet Stockholmen för automatiserad timmersortering i dimensions- och kvalitetsklasser hos BARO WOOD AB
The aim of this thesis was to analyse BARO WOOD AB:s timber measuring and quality sorting and to evaluate the analyse program Stockholmen. The purpose was to get a better understanding for the quality sorting made at BARO WOOD AB today, analyse differences in center board quality from logs with a good quality and logs with a bad quality, suggest new sorting criterias developed from analyses made with Stockholmen and to evaluate the program Stockholmen. All analyses are based on data gathered in a test sawing made at BARO WOOD AB in June and July 2002. The test sawing was made on four different diameter classes and every diameter class consisted out of A or M-grade logs, with a better quality, and B-grade logs with a lesser quality. The logs where sorted out with BARO WOOD AB:s existing quality criterias.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV?s) are nowadays greatly appreciated. The advantage over manned airplanes are great since UAV?s can be much smaller and therefore lighter. The goal of this project is to evaluate the performance of an environmentally friendly UAV using only lithium-ion batteries.
Survey of regulations concerning pesticides in Sweden and the EU : cultivation techniques and competition aspects for Swedish onion and apple producer
As a member of the EU, Sweden has, in some cases, transferred the controlling rights to the Union. This means that the rules defined by the EU must be followed in all member countries, including Sweden. The European Agricultural policy constitutes the largest part of the EU's
annual budget and is in contrast to many other areas fully funded at EU level. The last decade, many new regulations on chemicals and pesticides have been introduced which brought great changes and a lot of work throughout the Union, including Sweden. Sweden has always had a strict policy on chemicals and has been at the forefront when it comes to sustainable agriculture and environmental management.
En studie om vad som skapar tillit hos den anställde för sin chef
SammanfattningTvå personalgrupper i två olika organisationer intervjuades. En av utgångspunkterna var att försöka ta reda på vad som skapar förtroende hos en anställd för sin chef. Tanken var att se vilka likheter och skillnader som kunde utrönas. Resultatet visade dock att likheterna var större än skillnaderna.Bakgrund:Inspirationen till detta arbete är Margaretha Oudhuis avhandling om ?Volvo- The bus plant case? Efter att ha tagit del av hennes arbete så växte inspirationen fram till att göra ett liknande arbete fast med tillit som utgångspunkt.Teoretisk utgångspunkt för detta arbete är Max Webers teorier om ledarskap samt Anthony Giddens teori om tillit.

Water molecules use heat energy from the leaf to convert into gas, thereby cooling the leaf.

Förbättring av kvävereduktionsprocessen på avloppsreningsverket Lucerna under WTOS-styrningJonas WenströmÖvergödning av sjöar och hav är idag ett stort miljöproblem vilket samhället bidrar till genom sitt utsläpp av bland annat kväve. Därför har Sverige genom Baltic Sea Action Plan åtagit sig att minska sin belastning på Östersjön från reningsverk med 3000 ton kväve årligen fram till 2021. Om- och utbyggnader av reningsverk kommer att krävas, men en viss förbättring av reningen kan uppnås genom optimering av befintliga processer.Avloppsreningsverket Lucerna i Västervik hade tidigare problem att uppnå tillräcklig kväverening, men sedan processtyrningssystemet WTOS implementerades 2010 klaras kraven. Efter att WTOS implementerats sker luftningen intermittent i verkets aktivslamsteg, i vilken en biologisk rening sker. För att utreda om kvävereningen ytterligare kunde förbättras utfördes denna studie med huvudmålet att lämna förslag på hur kvävereningen kunde förbättras i verkets aktivslamprocess.
Begomovirus prevalence and diversity in the TYLCV resistant tomato cultivar Shanty in Nicaragua
Every year begomovirus infections cause severe constraints to the tomato production in Nicaragua. Extensive yield losses are followed by large economical losses, both for the country and the single farmer. During recent years the use of begomovirus resistant or tolerant tomato cultivars has increased in Nicaragua as an effort to improve yields. Still, begomovirus infection is a large threat to the tomato production. Therefore, ongoing work in Nicaragua is focusing on finding new, better, begomovirus tolerant or resistant tomato cultivars.
Differentieringsgradens inverkan på Kriminalvårdens platsbehov : en simuleringsstudie
Kriminalvårdsverket är det statliga verk som har hand om kriminalvård i Sverige. Vid årsskiftet 2003/2004 finns det 4 571 nominella anstaltsplatser fördelade på män och kvinnor. Ett stort problem idag är att antalet anstaltsplatser inte räcker till, samtidigt som ekonomin inte tillåter några större utbyggnationer. Simuleringen speglar en önskad väg genom svensk kriminalvård för att på så sätt utnyttja platserna som finns på ett tillfredställande sätt. Utdata från simuleringen kan inte tolkas exakt eftersom det inte fanns statistik att tillgå inom alla områden.
Teknisk undersökning : Rötgaskammare för småskalig biogasproduktion
Biogas mainly consists of methane and carbon dioxide, where methane is theenergy-rich gas, and is naturally created when organic matter breaks down in absenceof oxygen, also known as anaerobic digestion. A biogas plant re-creates the anaerobicconditions inside a digester where the organic substrate is fed into and digests toproduce biogas. The gas is then used to produce energy by combustion and can beseen as a completely renewable fuel.Today, energy from biogas is used primarily by major stakeholders such asmunicipalities and thus the plants become very large with high investment- andconstruction costs. There are currently few small plants in Sweden, even though thepotential for agriculture and medium-sized to smaller farms to become self-sufficientin terms of electricity and heat is great. Farms have a natural stock of digestibleorganic material in form of manure or crops for example, which are constantlyavailable.

In Uppsala CHP Plant, there are six pressure reducing valves to reduce the pressure from 15 to 3 bars, before six absorption heat pumps. During the process the energy is conserved but losses occur in form of exergy. The aim of this thesis is to reduce the losses of exergy. This can be done by letting turbines replace the pressure reducing valves.In this thesis an investigation has been done of the conditions today, the conditions after the change from pressure reducing valves to turbines and a comparison of three different types of turbine solutions. The three examined solutions are one turbine, several helical screw expanders and several small turbines in parallel with asynchronous generators.The six absorption heat pumps have been divided into two groups; one group of four and one group of two absorption heat pumps.
Utvärdering av möjligheten att tillvarata energi ur processvatten : En undersökning gjort vid Olofsfors AB på uppdrag av UMIA AB.
The company Olofsfors AB manufactures drive belts for forest machinery, known as ECO-Tracks, and abrasion-resistant steel and cutting edges for graders, excavators and tractors, known as Bruxite and SharqEdges. Manufacturing these products requires the steel to be heated and molded, then submerged in water and hardened. The water used in the hardening of steel is pumped to the process from pits below the floor and then pumped back to the pit after it?s been used. Since the temperature of this water rises after being used to harden the steel the temperature of the pumping pit needs to be adjusted to maintain its setpoint of 21°C.
Cleaning process of abattoir wastewater with focus on bacterial pathogens
This study was conducted at the City Abattoir in Kampala, Uganda to evaluate the cleaning process, with focus on bacterial pathogens, in a pilot scale integrated bioprocess. This consisted of four steps: anaerobic sequencing batch reactors; aerobic/anoxic sequencing batch
reactors; a high performance temperature controlled methanogenesis digester and a constructed wetland. The objective was to determine if this type of cleaning process could be used to clean wastewater from abattoirs in a satisfactory way.
The indicator organisms for faecal contamination, Escherichia coli and Enterococcus spp. were used to investigate in what numbers bacteria could be found in the untreated wastewater and how much that was reduced in the different steps of the cleaning process. The water was
analysed for Salmonella to see if human pathogens could be found and could survive the different steps of the treatment process.

I detta arbete har studerats hur flödet i en flerstegs- bearbetningsprocess påverkas av stokastiska fluktuationer och störningar i de enskilda processtegen. Mera bestämt har analys utförts av hur de stokastiska variationerna i operationstiderna kan och bör modelleras vid simuleringsstudier. Även hur påverkan av valet av sådana stokastiska modeller kan tänkas ha på processen i sin helhet, till exempel avseende total genomloppstid.Examensarbetet syftar till att undersöka hur val av fördelning på parametern operationstid, påverkar resultatfaktorn genomloppstid vid flödessimuleringar. För att finna svar på denna påverkan har en fallstudie utförts, med utgångspunkt av indata från en produkt som tillverkas på Volvo Aero. Denna produkt genomgår en tillverkningssekvens innehållande 18 stycken bearbetningsoperationer innefattande tre olika processtyper (automatisk, halvautomatisk och manuell).
