Drömmen om The West : Bildanalys av företaget Swansons kataloger från 2002 och 2009

This study has been about the representation of the Swedish tourism company Swanson?s. They do trips in US and every year they do a brochure with many Pictures. The objective of my study is to look how Pictures help to constructs places. Its often problem with Pictures because sometimes they are constructs.

This study is about the importance of Pictures to children's pleasure in reading. The aim of this study was to investigate pupils ' thoughts about the Pictures in picture books. I wanted to find out if the Pictures in the books are of importance to children's pleasure in reading and why. Also what types of Pictures that create the pleasure in reading and why. Through literature, I see why it is important to read books and how teachers can create encouraging reading among children.

Abstract: In this study, I have searched for answers to whether teachers use Pictures in their teaching with the purpose of making education easier. Can we use the Pictures with a pedagogic purpose? In this study, I have interviewed middle-school teachers concerning this subject.My results show that teachers actually use Pictures in order to make the education easier for pupils but they do not do it very often. They think that they do not have the time to look for the good Pictures that go with their subject and that they can show in the classroom. They also think that the Pictures in the textbooks are good enough and they do not discuss the Pictures very much.

My goal with this Project was to create four Pictures which de¬scribed four different emotions. The purpose of the project was that the Pictures would be placed in a psychology department and they could use them as a starting point for a discussion about the patients? emotions. My personal purpose was that I wanted to create Pictures in scale 1:1 in an analogue fashion, and try to learn more about how people see and feel about Pictures. What kind of thoughts can a picture give you? Can I create a picture which can be used as a platform for a discussion? Can I make a picture which describes an emotion? The making of the Pictures started with developing ideas and then I took photographs of my friend Joel, in different situations and moods, which I used as reference for my paintings.

The purpose with this thesis is to analyse images in the confirmationbook Via Mystica from a gender perspective. By using two different ways to analyse the Pictures, a content analysis and a semiotic picture analysis, the result was as follows: The Pictures of men an women fortifies the construction of gender. The girls in the Pictures are represented as caregivers and comforters, while the boys are represented as strong and tough. The four Pictures from the semiotic picture analyses showed how easy it was to categorise the men and the women in the photos in opposing stereotypes. The women are percieved as weak and submissive while the men were either strong criminals or a strong hero.

The aim of this essay is to examine how gender is described in Pictures in textbooks used in swedish upper secondary school. The research question is: How is gender being potrayed in the Pictures of new age in the textbook in relation to traditional dichothomy, hierarchy and detraditionalization? The material used in this study consists of five textbooks in religion used for education in upper secondary schools in Sweden. In total, 18 Pictures from these books that describe new age, constitutes the subject of analysis. The method used is picture analysis.

The general purpose of this dissertation is to study picture communication in picture books and it addresses the following questions:What is the illustrator?s role in the process of making a picture book? What communicative qualities do Pictures have in picture books and how do Pictures interact with texts? What methods do illustrators use to visualize the meaning of stories in picture books?A genre analysis, a literature study and an interview of a professional illustrator has been conducted to answer the questions. I found that all objects that make up Pictures, the arrangement, colours and shapes contribute to the meaning in diverse ways. Pictures also communicate in a different way than texts. An important difference between Pictures and texts in the context of picture books is that Pictures are more open for interpretation.

The purpose of this essay is to examine what kind of Pictures the children encounter everyday in their classroom. Furthermore, the idea was to immerse myself in how girls and boys are portrayed in these Pictures from a gender perspective. Three question were set, to enable this study: What kind of Pictures will second grade pupils encounter in their classroom, in a city school and in a rural school?How many girls and boys are illustrated in these Pictures?How are girls and boys portrayed in these Pictures?The examination was done by a field study of two classrooms, where all the Pictures on the walls were documented using a digital camera. The collected material were examined, using both a quantitative analysis and a qualitative ditto.

The purpose with this essay was to see how the mathematic books showed sexual roles in Pictures and if they confirm or deny the traditional sexual roles that school shall counteract according to the curriculum, Lgr11. The questions I focused on were this:How sexual roles are introduced on the Pictures in the chosen mathematic books?What are the similarities and differences between the presentations of the gender in the chosen education materials?I used a semiotic method to analyze my Pictures. The central parts of my theories were how we think that gender is created using characteristics and attribute. Teching aid in form of schoolbooks plays an importent role. The teacher uses schoolbooks as a tool in its tutoring. I have examined how and whether the Pictures in the schoolbooks are presenting people and ethnic minorities biased and stereotypical. The material I have examined consisted of a series of schoolbooks (So-direkt 1-3, samhällskunskap av Bonnier 2003).To find out if that is the case I have used a theory by Stuart Hall, his theory is about people and how they are represented in different types of media, like Pictures and text. I studied it by using the method of image analysis where I investigated and interpreted the denotation and konnontation of the Pictures.

AbstractThe purpose of the study was to examine if manual signs used as support to spoken and written language can be a god mnemonic for learning of word-Pictures. I performed my study as an experiment in which I made a Memory game with word-Pictures. I played the game with the children twice. The first time, we played without manual signs and the second time I used sign as a support. I observed the children and noted the words they learned to read with and without the support of manual signs.

This paper examines how and if the understanding of wedding photography has changed during the shift of technology - from analog to digital photography. It examines if the changed conditions due to the shift of technology have changed the habits and conditions for the photographers working with wedding photography. It furthermore examines what impact these habits and conditions have had on the Pictures of weddings. The investigation is based on interviews of six photographers that have worked professionally before and after the shift of technology, as well as of Pictures by the photographers taken before and after the shift of technology.Use of time and space has changed due to the shift of technology. The change has also had an influence on hierarchy among the photographers.
