This paper addresses the need to review the modern presentation of textile archaeology in museums. It is time to look at textiles in archaeology with new eyes. The reality behind archaeological textilestudy is holistic, embracing many different aspects of society. The presentation of textiles has in my opinion become old-fashioned. I will show in my paper that Jonathan Adams? `seven constraints´ model, developed for research on ancient ships, can also be applied to textile research.

In 1996 a hunting test for British gun dogs was started in Sweden, based on a similar one al-ready in place in Norway. The aim of the new test was to describe the hunting ability of the dog and to use the results as a basis for selection. However, up to now, no genetic study of these data has been done. Therefore the aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for the traits measured in the hunting test and to investigate whether the traits can summarized into fewer overall measures. Data from trails of British gundogs between 1996 and 2005 in Sweden were used to estimate genetic parameters and environmental effects in hunting performance. British gundogs consist of five different breeds: Pointer, English setter (ES), Gordon setter (GS), Irish red setter (Irl S) and Irish red and white setter.

Denna workbook behandlar produktion, resultat och analys av en serie digitalt producerade bilder, presenterade i form av en tryckt bok. Dessa bilder gjordes genom att frilägga och behandla en mängd bilder i Adobe Photoshop, för att sedan länka och montera dessa i Adobe After Effects. Efter detta, applicera ett antal effekter såväl som en simulering av en kamera som fotar kompositionen, för att senare lämna över bilden för efterbehandling i Photoshop.  Denna undersökning syftar till att spegla förändringar över tid i bildlärares syn på populärkultur. Bildlärarna kommer till tals genom kvalitativa intervjuer. Genom att relatera hur bildlärarna beskriver att de arbetar med populärkultur och deras syn på populärkultur till en historisk bakgrund, speglas sedan förändringar i bildlärares syn på populärkultur. Det blir då synligt att populärkulturens roll i undervisningen inte förändrats nämnvärt, och att bildlärarnas syn på populärkultur i vissa aspekter är oförändrad men i andra förändrad. Tydligast förändringar ligger i bildlärarnas mer mångfacetterade populärkulturbegrepp, den ökade vikten av och överlag positivare inställning till populärkultur i undervisningen. .

This thesis processes the work of developing CPU code and GPU code for Thomas Kaijsers algorithm for calculating the kantorovich distance and the performance between the two is compared. Initially there is a rundown of the algorithm which calculates the kantorovich distance between two images. Thereafter we go through the CPU implementation followed by GPGPU written in CUDA. Then the results are presented. Lastly, an analysis about the results and a discussion with possible improvements is presented for possible future applications..

Städer använder sig idag av offentlig konst som del i sin marknadsföring i strävan efter att väcka uppmärksamhet vilket i sin tur ska gynna staden på en rad sätt, däribland skapa tillväxt. En annan viktig aspekt i den offentliga konsten är att den också kan kopplas ihop med de värderingar och normer som finns i det samhälle den befinner sig i, då den är en del i den rådande samhällstrukturen.Det som varit avsikten med undersökningen är att urskilja de normer och värderingar som kan spåras till de utvalda skulpturerna som undersökningen baseras på vad gäller könsrepresentationen. Genom en uppdelning av samtida figurativa skulpturer som befinner sig i Borås stadskärna gjorda av manliga respektive kvinnliga konstnärer har det framkommit mönster och regelbundenheter i synen på kön, men också dess gestaltning. Uppdelningen visar på att manliga konstnärer främst avbildar andra män, medan kvinnliga konstnärers motiv är mer varierande. Detta är en orsak till mannens synlighet och kvinnans osynlighet i Borås stadsrum som på så sätt kan spåras till skulpturrepresentationen.Även placeringen vittnar om att stadsrummet främst är mannens rum då de skulpturer av män befinner sig på centrala platser kopplade till makt, medan de kvinnliga i konstnärernas verk i större utsträckning befinner sig på platser som saknar institutionell makt som t.ex.

Jag började intressera mig för konst i tron att samhället snart skulle rasa samman. Detviktiga blev att göra något roligt men samtidigt få en chans att påverka eller säga något. Imin tro har detta "snart" nu förflyttats många år framåt i tiden och perspektiven hardärmed förändrats. I min konstnärliga praktik undersöker jag relationen till naturen ur ett västerländskt perspektiv. Fokuset hamnar på frågor om makt, om behovet av att på olika sätt kontrollera naturen.

Feedback is a tool that can be used to give students the confirmation of their accomplishments , helping them to increase understanding of the results of a performance and to alert students if change is required for future performance. Other studies and reports regarding clinical practice in education has shown that students feel that feedback has good impact on learning and positive effects such as enhanced self-confidence. Onboard training forms a major part of the education at the four-year nautical science education in Kalmar, in four years, one year is spent on board ships. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out how students at the four-year nautical science program in Kalmar felt that they receive feedback after completing on board training and how they wish that such feedback would be given. Six students were interviewed, three from grade one and three from grade three.

This Bachelor's thesis in Environmental Science studies the quality of an index of performance measurement of Swedish municipalities' sustainability governance offered by the environmental magazine Miljöaktuellt. Executed for six consecutive years, this evaluation is arguably the most comprehensive and widely spread local sustainability assessment in Sweden. Contextualizing this quantitative measurement tool in the paradigm of New Public Management, the research questions posed are: 'to what extent does the index employed by Miljöaktuellt correspond to the requirements of a set of quality criteria for sustainability assessment?' and 'is the index appropriate as a measure of, or a goal for, Swedish municipalities' internal sustainability efforts?' Through the perspective of evaluation theory, Miljöaktuellt's index is seen as a performance evaluation, thus categorizing this study as a meta-evaluation. Through a qualitative thematic approach, the index is analyzed using the 8 BellagioSTAMP-principles that were developed as tools for assessing quality of sustainability assessments as themes for the analysis.

Evaluating and choosing suppliers based on price alone, has traditionally been the dominant strategy for supplier selection within the purchasing function. With the origin of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)-concept in the early 1990s, a new philosophy dawned that promoted the importance of knowing the effects of supplier performance on the buying firm?s internal costs. Since then, scholars have been arguing the case of TCO as a viable model for making purchasing decisions and conducting supplier evaluation. Still, after two decades little is known about its penetration and impact on the practices of buying corporations, leaving the questions of which costs are included in the purchasing organisations? decisions unanswered, and even more importantly why certain costs are considered and others not.

Strategies for the board game Hive was implemented and evaluated in this project. The report covers the rules as well as the system that was implemented in order to build strategies. The strategies are evaluated based on how they perform against each other. Two search algorithms were implemented: Minmax and Alpha-Beta Pruning. Earlier attempts at mechanising pre-commercial thinning have been met with varying degrees of success. Most attempts have been based on techniques where residual stems are straddled. Early treatment is essential to limit damage on residual trees. One part of the present study is an evaluation of mechanised pre-commercial thinning using the new Vimek 404R. Vimek 404R is a fairly small machine that permits selective removal of stems, making it potentially suitable also for areas overdue for pre-commercial thinning. The study established the level of performance for the machine, as well as the improvement needed to make it an economically viable option.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate nurses? experiences of communicating with patients with immigrant backgrounds regarding language barriers, patient relations and use of interpreter. Method: Eight persons participated in this study. Four registered midwives were interviewed in a focus group and one clinical lecturer with a district nursing background, one midwife and two district nurses were individually interviewed about their experiences. The content was analysed using a qualitative content analysis.

The purpose of the study was to investigate whether or not Icelandic horses are less severely affected in clinical symptoms of cough or decreased performance than other breeds of horses. A breed variation in chronic respiratory disease severity was suspected based on clinical experience at the Institution for surgery & medicine, large animal, SLU Uppsala. A retrospective journal study of 17 Icelandic horses and 17 Swedish Standardbred horses with chronic problems with cough and/or decreased performance compared several measurements of disease severity. The clinical signs, physical examination and laboratory testing results compared were respiratory rate, abdominal breathing, lung auscultation, endoscopy results, broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) results and the blood gases pO2 and pCO2. All parameters were available for all 34 individuals except for the blood gases, which were analysed, in only four Icelandic horses and four Swedish Standardbred horses. The only parameters that appeared different between the two groups were respiratory rate and pO2. The four Icelandic horses, which had blood gases analysed, had more severe hypoxemia.
