The location on the river delta of Klarälven, adjacent to lake Vänern, makes Karlstad one of the Swedish cities where a significant flood risk is present. The city has several major floods in its memory which has caused great material damage and economic losses, the latest of which occurred in the winter of year 2000/2001. The purpose of the study is to examine how the approach to flood risk has changed in the municipality of Karlstad since the 1950s, and how this change has affected the current situation regarding the city's vulnerability to flooding. To investigate this, a document analysis was conducted, where key documents in the media and from the municipality of Karlstad was studied. Furthermore, an interview study was conducted with respondents who currently are employed or previously have been employed in the municipality of Karlstad, who in various ways work with issues of flood risk. The result of the study shows that several changes have taken place since the 1950s in terms of the municipality's approach to flood risk, which for instance has led to preventative measures being taken to a greater extent than previously in the physical planning.

Vårt syfte med denna studie är att beskriva hur förskollärare planerar och stimulerar barns lärande ute på förskolegården, samt vilken roll förskollärare har i de planerade respektive de fria aktiviteterna på förskolegården. För att få svar på våra frågeställningar har vi intervjuat sex förskollärare på fyra olika förskolor utan någon uttalad utomhusprofilering. Resultatet av studien visar att det måste finnas ett syfte med utevistelsen på förskolegården. Det behövs en jämn fördelning av förskollärarens arbetsuppgifter vad gäller tid för observation, planering och genomförande av pedagogiska aktiviteter. Förskollärarna i studien menar att de även behöver tid för andhämtning, vilket det främst ges utrymme till i förskolans utemiljö.

This survey aims to investigate and analyze how six teachers on a high school in Stockholm reflect on pedagogical aspects of problem based learning( PBL). The survey focuses on ana-lyzing how the teachers relate to the benefits and problems of PBL and how they reflect on the students development. The survey was conducted on a high school and the method used for the study was interviews, each taking 30-45 minutes. The outcome of the survey indicates that the teachers sees problem based learning as an alternative to what they define as tradi-tional education regarding its epistemology. They indicate that PBL allows the students to define their own questions, to be carriers of knowledge and to evolve analytic skills in relation to the basegroup.

The main purpose of this Master thesis is to investigate the journalists' attitude towards Internet as a news medium. The thesis also gives a general synopsis of the changing role of news media as enter the scene of Internet. The major part of this study consists of empirical studies though there is not much research-work made in this area. This case study is based on qualitative interviews of journalists. This method was the most suitable as the aim was to see tendencies and attitudes in a more individual light.

The purpose of this study is to describe some primary school teachers understanding of language development and approach of first and second language speakers with Arne Tragetons Writing to reading, for pupils in early ages.By using a qualitative method with interviews and participant observations and informal conversations, the basis for the survey was collected. Four teachers in three schools participated. The proportion of second-language pupils at each school was 35%, 17% and 0%. My theoretical starting point in the study was the hermeneutic research tradition, which has been used to interpret and understand the collected material. Theories of behaviorism, constructivism and socio-cultural perspective has been used in the analysis part of this study.

Can the lack of functional cross-cultural communication among individuals within an international organization be the reason for cultural clashes to occur, and lead to conflict between two cultures within the same organization?Our aim is to try to create a potential model of how cross-cultural problems can be studied, in order to contribute to the solution of the problem. It is also important to use a relationship marketing approach. .

The purpose of this qualitative study has been; how social bonds are interlaced between thesocial worlds contained within the analytical division of ?outside Internet? and ?withinInternet?. What happens with the social bond as the individual oscillate between this analyticbisection? Examensarbetets syfte är att studera lärares beskrivningar av arbetet med och betydelsen av pedagogiska relationer. Studien har tre frågeställningar: Vad anger lärare att de har för uppfattningar om pedagogiska relationer, hur beskriver de sitt arbete för att skapa pedagogiska relationer samt vad har dessa relationer för betydelse för elevernas studieprestationer enligt lärarna. För att studera hur man som lärare kan arbeta för att skapa pedagogiska relationer och för att få reda på hur dessa relationer påverkar elevernas studieprestationer så används en kvalitativ forskningsmetod. Empirin består av intervjuer med fyra lärare från två olika skolor. För att få en djupare förståelse om ämnet och för att lättare kunna förstå resultatet så hämtas kunskap ur tidigare forskning och bidrag till tolkningen ur olika teorier. Informanterna beskriver pedagogiska relationer och dess innebörd olika. En del av lärarna anser att pedagogiska relationer har med elevernas kunskapsutveckling att göra och hur man som pedagog lär ut denna kunskap.

The main purpose of this study was that, in the light of theories of how street level bureaucrats may affect the implementation of political decisions, examine and analyze the social workers interpretations of the child perspective's impact on the handling of social assistance, and what opportunities and/or limitations they feel that the organizational preconditions means for the application. The survey had a qualitative research approach and consisted of eight thematic interviews with a total of ten respondents operating in five different municipalities. Eight of the respondents were social workers dealing directly with social assitance and two had managerial positions. The results of the interviews were then analyzed with the help of an actor-structure approach to implementation and Michael Lipskys theory of street-level bureaucrats and their role as policy makers. The results of the survey showed that the respondents had relatively similar views on the child perspectives implications for work with social assistance.

The purpose of the study is to see how four teachers at a school look at the reception and approaching of newly arrived pupils.How do the interviewed teachers describe the school´s reception of newly arrived pupils? How do teachers in preparatory and regular class see at the selected school's reception and treatment of newly arrived pupils?To get answers to my purpose, I have done an ethnographic study called field study and I am using qualitative interviews, and one passive observation. To arrive at a result of my study, I have processed collected data from interviews and observations and coupled the collected material to the theories and previous research. I have in my study used both pedagogical and sociological theories.The results of my study show that it would be difficult for newly arrived students to be placed directly into the ordinary class, the results also show that newly arrived students receive a safe and stimulating start to their school and class preparation. However, there are shortcomings and resistance of the trajectories leading to entry of the preparatory class of ordinary class, but when newly arrived students have started in an ordinary class, students receive a stimulating teaching.
