This study sets out to investigate the social significance and political use of three historical places, from the theoretical starting points of landscape, objects, society and rituals. The Teutoburger Forest in North Germany has had an international effect, being a german national icon during the reformation and through two world wars, Old Uppsala is a place of great importance for the creation and reproduction of Swedish national identity during several hundred years, and Eketorp ring fort on Öland in Sweden is of more regional importance. All these places have been used for social and political reasons through history. History can be used in a constructive or a destructive way. This master?s thesis seeks to examine how a public library use the intranet with regards to the possibilities that today?s intranet technology offer ? especially concerning functionalities that support information, communication and knowledge exchange in the organization. The purpose of the study is to investigate how employees in one specific public library perceive and use the intranet in their daily work. The theoretical framework takes its point of departure in two complementing models regarding the implementation, development and management of intranets and a model of a multi perspective view of the intranet as a shared information space for content, communication and collaboration. The study is based on interviews with eleven of the intranet users, whom with the aid of an interview guide have been asked questions regarding goals, implementation, content, design, applications and advantages/disadvantages with the intranet.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how librarians view marketing of the library using social media and how this can be used in a marketing strategy. The theoretical framework for this thesis is based on the 7 Ps of the marketing mix, SWOT-analysis and SWOT/TOWS Matrix. The theory is based on planned elements that make up a product or service offered the market. We have used our own interpretation of the theories to analyse our material. Our main method has been a web-based questionnaire, the questionnaire was sent to 523 librarians active at ten large public libraries and its related branches.

AbstractThe European union experience sometimes difficulties in advancing its work due to the member states? different ambitions and interests. The budget is one common tool that the member states can use in order to implement different policies according to their preferences. A large share of the budget is presently tied up in the CAP, the common agricultural policy. This share could be spent in another area and by doing so the EU could take a slightly different direction.

Background: Officers in the Swedish Armed Forces educates their soldiers in various skills and arenas. The Officers get their educational training in officer training courses conducted by the Swedish Armed Forces or the Swedish national defence college. The aim of this study was to find out how the cadets, belive that they are formed into educators, their views on the literature being used in the Swedish armed Forsces, and their views on leadership and educational science.Methods: The data for analysis were collected in spring 2010, by use of a questionnaire among cadets studying the tactical/operational program Ta/Op 07/10 at the Swedish national defence college. The respons rate was 69, 6 %.Results: The majority of the cadets thought that experience was the most important factor in becoming a good educator. Most of the cadets also thought that the literature being used by the Swedish armed forces was good, however, few cadets stated that they will use the material for reflection on their own teaching when working as officers.Conclusions: The Cadets had a positive attitude towards the educational philosphy and literature being used, but few will use the literature in reflecting on themselves as teachers.

The purpose of this examination paper has been to examine the situation for Swedish as a Second Language Programs in relationship to their interaction with the parents of the stu-dents. This case study was performed at two schools in the county of Stockholm. A com-parative analysis of both national and local documents for school governance was used to analyse the contents for incidents of parental involvement in schooling. Furthermore, qualitative semi-structured interviews were carried out with five staff-members holding key positions. The findings of the study are that schools tend to practice parental involve-ment only to the level that it is recommended in the national documents.

The intention of this essay is to describe the problems with loss of books at three Swedish University libraries. It?s based on interviews with librarians. The library codes of ethics, the library law and the terms of reference of the libraries are central for my understanding. Interview results: Little was being done to stop theft.

Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka hur väl webbplatsen för Karlstad Universitetsbibliotek möter studenters behov på mobila enheter, samt huruvida de anser att en biblioteksapp skulle utgöra ett behövligt komplement i framtiden. Uppsatsen riktar sig främst till Karlstads Universitetsbibliotek men kan även tänkas vara av intresse för bibliotek vid liknande lärosäten.För ändamålet upprättades två prototyper, varav den ena representerade befintlig webbplats på mobiltelefoner, medan den andra utgjorde ett exempel på hur en biblioteksapp skulle kunna se ut. Under jämförelsetester fick sedan studenter genomföra en grupprumsbokning och söka upp en elektronisk resurs i respektive prototyp samt besvara enkätfrågor.Av resultatet att döma finns ett intresse kring en biblioteksapp bland Karlstad Universitets studenter, då de gärna vill ha tillgång till bibliotekets tjänster på sina mobiltelefoner även om befintlig webbplats upplevs som krånglig på denna plattform. The main purpose of this Master?s thesis is to do a benchmarking study of the marketing activities at the public library of Valdemarsvik. The purpose is also to describe and get a deeper understanding of benchmarking as a method for improving library activity. Four major problem areas are addressed: How can one use benchmarking as a tool to achieve change? How can one learn with benchmarking? What similarities and differences are there between benchmarking and other similar methods for competence development? Is benchmarking better than other similar methods for competence development? The empirical approach was qualitative and the method chosen was action research.

Sammanfattning Syftet med min undersökning är att ta reda på vad barn i förskoleklass och årskurs ett läser hemma och vad föräldrarna tror kan öka deras läslust såväl i hemmet som i skolan. Min frågeställning är: Vad läser barn hemma? Vad gör föräldrarna för att öka deras barns läslust? Hur utnyttjar man det i skolan för att väcka och öka barns läslust? Undersökningen är gjord i form av enkätundersökningar samt en intervju i en höginkomsttagarkommun. Undersökningen är gjord i en kombinerad förskoleklass och förstaklass. Eleverna är i åldrarna 6-8år. I undersökningen har sexton föräldrarana obsververat sina barns läsvanor i hemmet.

Denna utvärdering är gjord vid Slottegymnasiets bibliotek i Ljusdal och syftar till att lyfta fram skolelevernas åsikter kring bibliotekets roll, rum och användning. Jag har använt mig av observationer och semistrukturerade intervjuer för att få fram en bred och kontrastrik bild av bibliotekets användare.Utöver eleverna har jag även intervjuat kommunens bibliotekschef, ansvarig rektor vid skolan samt skolbibliotekets bibliotekarie, för att se om deras bild av biblioteket överensstämmer med elevernas. Jag har även utgått från lagtext samt direktiv från skolinspektionen och på det sättet arbetat fram ett mikro, makro, meso-perspektiv där lagen representerar makro, kommunen representerar meso och eleverna vid skolan representerar mikro-delen av undersökningen.Slottegymnasiets bibliotek är placerat centralt i skolan och många elever passerar igenom det under dagen för att ta sig från ena delen av skolbyggnaden till den andra. Detta resulterar i att en hög andel elever passerar biblioteket under dagen. Eleverna i min undersökning uppskattar bibliotekets placering i byggnaden och använder det i första hand till studier.Datorerna i biblioteket används flitigt av eleverna, delvis som komplement till skolans datasalar och delvis för nöjen.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate what functions the public library has for parents of small children. If and how they make use of the library and what their opinion is about it. The research questions are: Which functions does the public library have for parents of small children? How do parents of small children use the library and what opinion do they have about it? Which factors have an impact on the parents of small children and how do they influence their use of and opinion about the public library and the functions of the library? The theoretical approach is based on Henrik Jochumsen and Casper Hvenegaard Rasmussen?s model of the social room and the lifestyles and Marianne Andersson and Dorte Skot-Hansen?s model of the public library?s functions. To answer our research questions we have made seven qualitative interviews with parents of small children.

The retailing industry has an extremely high density of brands. In order to differentiate its offer, both retailers and suppliers, are constantly forced to come up with new ways to launch their products. A collaborative strategy between two brands is called co-branding, which means that both the private label and the supplier's brand are displayed on the new product packaging. Several studies have shown that a co-branding strategy is successful, but many operators are still reluctant to use co-branding in fear of long-term losses due to potentially damaged business relations. The objective of this study is to explain how the product- and brand related value for customers, retailers and suppliers is affected by co-branding between private labels and national brands.

The purpose of this study is to examine sex/gender relations amongst staff in public libraries who have taken part in projects related to information technology. This is done through e-mail surveys and telephone interviews with staff who have participated in the development of the two library websites Mina bibliotek and Biblioteket.se regarding their experiences. The theoretical basis for the analysis is two gender theoretical perspectives with reference to technology. The first perspective is represented by Yvonne Hirdman?s theory concerning the gender system, in which women and men are kept apart and in which there is always a hierarchy where men are higher up, and Hanna Westberg-Wohlgemuth?s theory concerning sex marking of job-tasks.
