This our bachelor thesis of 15 p ECTS. Our subject is What makes a good park? ? And how to make it better. The purpose of our bachelor thesis is to provide an overall direction for instrinsic qualities, resource (areas and materials) maintenance, visitor use, visitor experience and a basic foundation for decision-making for the maintenance and enhancement of the parks in Danderyd municipality.

Lack of dead wood is the main cause of decaying or loss of populations for many forest species. To increase the amount of dead wood is a prerequisite to maintain biodiversity in forests of northern Europe. In summer 2006 the recreation area Klåveröd, at Söderåsen in Skåne, Sweden, has been inventoried for high stumps (snags) of beech, (Fagus sylvatica). The result of the inventory has been compared with data of the real estate and forest management directories from the owner, region Skåne. The results have also been matched with the results from an inventory of saproxylic beetles in 2005, performed with windowtraps on selected snags both in the area and the adjacent National Park Söderåsen. 594 snags were found on 747 ha.

The same place, once a mental hospital, and now, at the time of the paper being written, it's a richer residential district. Is there anything left of the old mental hospital in the new community and the residents identities?.

Skälby park is situated approximately 2,5 km northwest of the central parts of Kalmar and is one of fi ve town part parks. Originally Skälby consisted of a village of four farms. In 1965 the municipality in Kalmar bought Skälby and the agriculture ceased to appear. The land was parcelled out into plots and new roads. Only the area surrounding the old buildings remained, turned to a park.

The Societety Park (Societetsparken) of Varberg here in Sweden, established in the year 1883 (1856), is one of the most famous parks in Varberg. Today it is, more or less, only used as a park that you will walk through in the wintertime, under the summer season though, the park starts blooming and then it is used for public music and singalong evenings. Earlier it was an old health resort park with its fine old traditions.The Societetsparken was a private owned park until 1902 when the town purchased it. On this plot there was already a smaller park and it was established as early as in 1856. It was called Badhusparken (The Public Bath Park) and it belonged to the hot- and cold-bathhouses, and these baths were very well frequented.

Many people choose to live in urban environments. Since everyday life in many cities is characterized by a high pace it is important that good recreational areas, with the possibility of recovery, are available to the population.This paper is based on a case study of Växjö city park, which is the area surrounding the lake Växjösjön. The park and the lake are of great importance to the citizens. The lake Växjösjön has for a long time been affected by eutrophication, which has caused major problems as algal blooms and fish mortality. An extensive lake restoration was carried out in the 1990s in order to save the lake.

I takt med att pocket park som begrepp blivit allt populärare att använda i samma mening som modern stadsutveckling och förtätning av stadskärnan, har det också väckt vårt intresse att utreda vad begreppet verkligen innebär. Att begreppet pocket park är i ropet finns det ingen tvekan om. Stora städer som New York, London och Köpenhamn har med pocket park i sina stadsplanerings- och utvecklingsprogram. I Sverige är det fortfarande ett relativt okänt begrepp. I dagsläget finns det ingen generellt accepterad beskrivning för hur en pocket park ska se ut, hur stor till ytan den bör vara eller vilka beståndsdelar som ska finnas med. Vill vi undersöka vad begreppet pocket park innebär och hur vi i framtiden kan bygga bra och funktionella pocket parks i staden. Vi har som mål att identifiera och bryta ner begreppet pocket park och undersöka vilka beståndsdelar och funktioner som är mer betydelsefulla än andra i en pocket park? Processen startar med en litteraturstudie som sedan ska ligga till grund för en analys som belyser vilka de viktiga beståndsdelarna och funktionerna är för en pocket park.

Abstract Ideon Science Park was built on the edge of Lund city in mid-80ies. The Science Park was surrounded by open farm land and Lunds Faculty of engineering(LTH). The architecture, the facades of the buildings, were placed to face the faculty. The Science Park has since then grown, and the actual front of the building is no longer faced towards LTH. The people working at Ideon are met by the backside, the meeting with Ideon is primarerly a meeting with fields of parkinglots. The initiative to this thesis was taken by Ikano Fastigheter AB, one of two real estate owners of Ideon Science park. Their aim is to make the area easier to orientate, they want it to be more internally connected and with a stronger identity. The thesis is mainly dealing with two questions conserning Ideon Science center.

Projektet är ett förslag på hur man kan bygga nya bostäder, kontor och butiker i en av Stockholms större innerstadsparker. Hornsbruksgatan på Södermalm ligger längs Högalidsparken som kröns av Ivar Tengboms Högalidskyrka från 1923. I förslaget presenteras två byggnadskomplex med ett 30-tal lägenheter på drygt 1300 kvm samt ca 3500kvm för kontor och detaljhandel. Byggnadskropparna är tegelklädda med bärande stomelement i betongskivor.Förslaget handlar om hur husen möter parken och gatan som har två helt skilda karaktärer. Stadsgatan möter en allvarlig park för rekreation.

Gated Communities är en utbredd boendeform i USA och i många övriga länder. Fenomenet med inhägnade bostadsområden börjar nu även närma sig Sverige. Denna uppsats undersöker om livsstilsboendet Victoria Park, beläget i Malmö, kan klassas som ett Gated Community. Undersökningen är utav en kvalitativ metod. Sammanlagt har fyra intervjuer genomförts med personer bosatta på Victoria Park.

Transboundary protected areas are a fairly recent concept that have been increasing in popularity and are increasingly being integrated into large international organizations? environmental policy making. This essay examines the phenomena through the cooperation between two National Parks, Parc National des Pyrénées in France and Parque Nacional Ordesa Monte Perdido in Spain. The theoretical framework used in this essay is based upon border theory, focusing on the different factors that influence the behavior of the border dweller and how the different social conceptions of nature influence the way it is managed. The results in this study result from researching published and private documents from the National Parks and interviews carried out with staff from the park administrations from both countries.

Millesgården is a museum on the island of Lidingö outside Stockholm. It contains the buildings which were the home and studios of the artist Carl Milles and his artist wife Olga. It also contains the grounds that originated as the garden of their home. Carl Milles later developed the garden into a sculpture park where a great part of the sculptors works are on display. In this report only the sculpture park is treated.

The estate of Rydboholm is situated in the municipality of Österåker, north of Stockholm, Sweden, and has a long history dating back to the 14th century. Rydboholm was the home of several families of great national importance, such as the Finsta and Vasa clans. However, since the 1500s, the noble family Brahe was the most influential; leaving its mark on the castle and surroundings. The gardens of Rydboholm consist of two parts; The first is from the baroque era, dating back to the 1660s, and the second is an immense landscape park completed around the year 1800 by Magnus Fredrik Brahe. During his travels through Europe, Magnus Fredrik Brahe was influenced by the new English-style gardens and he brought a large collection of literature on the subject back to Sweden, still kept in the library of Rydboholm.
