Technology evolves quickly, with innovative ideas growing everywhere. Still, no technology is anywhere near challenging the Mouse and keyboard for navigation of your standard computer. This study focuses on comparing the traditional technologies of Mouse and keyboard with the new technology of gestures - in this case Leap Motion - in purpose of finding how the usage differs and what the potential users want from the competing technology. The experiment was executed in a controlled environment, with as few external factors as possible. We found that although the test subjects found Leap Motion fun, the test subjects do not want to surf the web with gestures.

Why does trehalose not improve autophagy in the SOD1G93A transgenic mouse model of familial ALS?

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is one of the major neurodegenerative diseases, causing an ascending paralysis that usually kills the patient within a few years from disease onset. The motor neurons show aggregates of proteins which in approximately 20 % of cases of the familial form contain mutated SOD1 protein. Trehalose is a disaccharide which has been shown to reduce protein aggregation and increase viability in cell models and alleviate symptoms in animal models of several neurodegenerative diseases associated with protein aggregation. When given orally to the SOD1G93A Mouse model of ALS, trehalose failed to slow down the disease progression, which has led to questions about the uptake and distribution of the molecule in this Mouse strain. The aim of this study was to investigate whether significant levels of trehalose reach the central nervous system of the SOD1G93A Mouse after oral administration. This was performed by a trehalose assay of the brain of trehalose treated animals. A glucose assay was optimised for use in small samples of brain lysate after the digestion of trehalose into glucose by trehalase, and the difference in glucose concentration before and after digestion represented the trehalose level.

The welfare of the laboratory mouse : comparison in development of mouse pups in three different individual ventilated cage (IVC) systems

Today the individual ventilated cage system (IVC-system) is a commonly used housing system for mice in research facilities. IVC systems have HEPA- filters and are designed to control both supply and exhausted air at cage level, as well as temperature and relative humidity in the cages. This creates an optimal environment for the Mouse and at the same time a protection against the risk of cross-infection between cages and the outside environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health and welfare of breeding females and pups of two different strains of laboratory mice (NMRI nude mice and C57BL/6N) in three different kinds of IVC-systems; Arrowmight, Allentown and Tecniplast. The NMRI nude (Nu) females gave birth to 18 litters in Allentown, 16 litters in Arrowmight and 15 litters in Tecniplast.

Immunohistochemical evaluation of antibodies for staining of mouse spinal cord and mouse neuronal cells

The United Nations has, during many years, developed a model for a globally harmonized system for classification and labeling of chemicals, with the aim of it becoming a global standard. This system is implemented in the European Union through the CLP-regulation and is now working parallel to the existing directives until 1st of June 2015, when all the new classifications of substances and mixtures must be completed. The aim of this project was to adjust the laboratory to the new legislation, through inventory of stored chemicals, update the list of chemicals and perform self-classifications of mixtures. The work included handling of about 650 different chemicals with varying hazard classifications and search for information in corporate websites and chemical databases. This resulted in a new and complete list of chemicals stored and used in the laboratory and, in addition, an example of how to make a self classification of a mixture.

The Dark Side of the Word-of-Mouse Effect- An experimental study of how negative information in today?s social media can influence consumer perception As a result of the electronic revolution of information dissemination, social media as a phenomenon has come to play an important part, both in society at large but also when it comes to business and marketing. Nowadays, knowledge and opinions about brands and products are spread by reputation through a wide range of social media platforms, a phenomenon which in the literature is referred to as word-of-Mouse or electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM).The purpose of this paper is to investigate how people?s opinions towards a company and its product are affected by negative information in terms of eWOM. Or more precisely, whether or not there is a difference in this effect depending on information content, concerning company values on the one hand and product attributes on the other.This was done in an experimental setting where two groups of respondents were subjected to fictitious information of different types using established social media platforms.

Assessing the ability of LARGE overexpression to prevent the development of muscular dystrophy

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a hereditary X-linked fatal disease that affects 1 in 3500 male births. It is the most common kind of muscular dystrophy in children and leads to death in the late teens or early 20s for many patients. The mdx Mouse is a model of DMD that can be used to investigate experimental therapies. Overexpression of a glycosyltransferase, CT GalNAc, in mdx mice has been demonstrated to prevent the development of muscular dystrophy. Overexpression of another glycosyltransferase, LARGE, is currently being investigated as a treatment for another group of muscular dystrophies, the dystroglycanopathies. In this study, we overexpressed LARGE in mdx mice in order to investigate its effect on the development of muscular dystrophy.

Framväxten av en ny kundlogik, orsakad av teknikens framfart, har tvingat företag och organisationer att hitta nya tillvägagångssätt för att nå potentiella medlemmar eller kunder. Sociala medier är ett fenomen som har utvecklats från att vara ett kommunikationsverktyg för privatpersoner, till att bli ?ett nödvändigt ont? och en viktig del av marknadskommunikationen för många företag.Med denna uppsats vill vi utforska hur en ideell förening använder sociala medier för sin marknadsföring, vilka risker detta medför och vad som kan göras för att undvika dessa. Uppsatsen är en fallstudie som bygger på metodtriangulering och karaktäriseras av en abduktiv ansats. Studien baseras på två kvalitativa personliga intervjuer och en kvantitativ undersökning i form av enkät.

In this essay dog as a compatible model were put against human. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes were compared between dogs, human, cat and Mouse. To evaluate dog as a model and study similarities and differences was the aim with this review. Dog as a model contributes to understand mechanisms behind autoimmune diseases and showed clearly histological similarities between human and dogs concerning the skin disease mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP)/cicatricial pemphgioid (CP). Further genetic evidence motivated the choice of using dog as a comprehensive model when the MHC-complex correlated with hypothyroiditis in Doberman dog as it does in human. Physiological similarities with low levels of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) together with high level of thyroid releasing hormone (TSH) were found in the same way as in human.

Hållning av kastrerade och icke kastrerade försöksmöss i par som en lösning på aggressivt beteende

Aggression between laboratory mice is a common problem and can result in welfare issues such as mice hurting or killing each other and also stress. Swedish laws and regulations clearly states that mice must be housed with a companion due to their natural social structure. Many studies have investigated the effect off enrichment, group size, cage size and other potential changes in in their environment on the occurrence of aggression. Even with these changes aggression can exist and therefore a new solution was tested in this paper. The proposed solution was to house an intact Mouse with a castrated one and thus fulfill laws and regulations while still maintaining the physiology of one of the mice for the purpose of medical experiments.

The role of mast cells and mast cell mediators in the development of atopic dermatitis in a mouse model

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex, often lifelong allergic disease affecting around 10 % of both dogs and humans. The hallmark symptom is severe pruritus, causing a lowered quality of life. Mast cells (MCs) are known to play an important part of the immunopathogenesis, promoting a faulty T helper cell type 2 (Th-2) response which follows by a production of specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies towards environmental allergens (Ag). To further investigate the role of MCs and its mediators in the progression of AD, a low-calcemic vitamin D3 analog (MC903) was used to induce AD-like symptoms locally on the ears of two different knock-out (KO) Mouse strains. The first strain was Wsh-/- mice deficient in MCs.

Facebook ? en plats för en ilsken mobb med ett meddelande att sprida : en textanalytisk undersökning av hur ett företag bemöter negativ kritik på Facebook

Sociala medier innebär både stora hot och möjligheter för de företag som väljer att använda detta som en kommunikationskanal. Sociala medier skapar en plats och ett tillfälle för företag att komma närmare kunderna och genom att göra detta kan företagens intäkter ökas, kostnaderna kan minska och kundkontakten kan bli mer effektiv. Idag blir företags snedsteg, dåliga service och fadäser offentliga på några minuter i de sociala medierna. I form av arga inlägg på företagens vägg på Facebook ackompanjerade av kommentarer från andra som håller med trådskaparen kan en lynchning av företaget som gjort något fel eller retat upp kunder startas. Mot bakgrund av det här resonemanget är syftet med denna uppsats att undersöka hur 3, en av Nordens största mobiloperatörer, bemöter kritik samt hur de väljer att skapa sin identitet på sin Facebook-sida.Den teoretiska referensramen i denna uppsats behandlar systemisk funktionell textanalys, identitetsskapande på internet, intimisering, word-of-mouth samt word-of-Mouse och service recovery-teorier.Analysen bygger på en ideationell samt en interpersonell textanalys av fem svar på fem negativa inlägg skrivna av upprörda kunder på 3:s Facebook-sida.

Marknadsföring på den personliga bloggen- fördelar och nackdelar

Följande uppsats behandlar området marknadsföring på den personliga bloggen. Bloggar är ett fenomen som tar mer och mer mediautrymme och har visat sig vara en fascinerande marknadsföringskanal. Studien vänder sig främst till företag som använder sig av bloggar i sin marknadsföringsstrategi eller för de som funderar på det, då syftet med studien är att undersöka och redogöra för vilka för-respektive nackdelarna marknadsföring på en personlig blogg erbjuder. Genom uppsatsens vill jag också ge läsaren en större kunskap om bloggar och en inblick i vilka möjligheter samt fallgropar detta fenomen innebär ur ett företagsperspektiv. Uppsatsen består av en teoretisk grund, för att få en bättre insikt i ämnet och den teoretiska referensramen har fungerat som utgångspunkten för den empiriska undersökningen.
