This thesis examines Swedish composers' Modes of work and production within the Swedish film industry. It starts off with a historical overview treating live music in early silent film, the conversion to sound and the Swedish production climate until present time. The analysis consists of contemporary empirical studies; interviews with people writing music for film, TV and commercials. The musician's perspective is in focus but directors and other film workers are heard as well. The situation for female composers in a male-dominated industry is also discussed.

Political and economical aspects of producing films in various regions serve as a background for understanding the new generation of decentralised Swedish filmmaking, and the use of sound and music in contemporary film. This is a study of the reactions of high school students in Sweden when reading A Modest proposal (Swift, 1729). If they get the chance to write whatever they want about the text, what do they find important? This study emanates from Rosenblatts (2002) view of reading out of two different stances: the aesthetical and the efferent. The aesthetical mode is reading for pleasure and experiencing the text, whilst in efferent reading the reader is primarily focused on what he or she will carry away as information from the text (Rosenblatt). To be able to categorize the material from the students more properly, a different set of ideas about reading Modes, obtained from Tengberg (2011), is also presented and used in this essay..

Herbicide resistance is the result of an evolutionary process where a population gradually changes from being susceptible to being resistant to an herbicide. The resistance mechanism is usually a change in the biochemistry of the weed, but in some cases changes in morphology or growth rhythm. The change is caused by random mutations. Two resistance mechanisms are found in black-grass; target site resistance and metabolic resistance.Black-grass is a tufty, winter annual grass weed, which is mainly found in milder climates. The aim of this masters thesis is to examine query expansion. Query expansion is the process of adding new terms to a query to improve the retrieval effectiveness. In this study the baseline query was expanded in five different Modes. The purpose of the study is to investigate what affects the motorist?s decisions to become a member of a carpool. The study will highlight the barriers and drivers of membership in a carpool. This report describes the construction and development of a control box, which is a tool for testing and verifying a certain model of Rapid?s built in staplers (model A6102). Basically the function of the control box is to interpret any errors that may occur in the stapler and to make it possible to test fire the stapler.The control box should be able to communicate with the stapler using a specialized communication protocol. The different data such as errors, firmware etc. from the stapler is presented in plain language on a display.

The aim of this paper is to describe and explain which policy instruments for human rights (HR) the United States and the European Union use towards Burma and to examine the priority given to HR in their respective foreign policy. From the results of an empirical analysis this paper seeks to analyze the US and the EU as powers in the international system and aims to explain their behavior from this theoretical perspective. From the theoretical approaches used I conclude that these actors act in different ways regarding the Burmese issue. This is partially due to the structure of the international system. Both actors primarily use different forms of diplomatic tools and sanctions to try to force change for HR in Burma.

If we do not change our behavior regarding travel, the consequences will be significant for the environment. This study examines the various transport operators on the two Swedish ski resorts if their websites and marketing are different from each other in the mode selection. The destinations are Åre and Hemavan Tärnaby. They studied Modes are two Swedish airlines, two train companies, three bus companies and three taxi companies.These corporate websites are studied with a content analysis in which the results of the keywords that have been developed are scored according to different categories.

Therefore, authorities at national, regional and local level want to increase the use of alternative transport Modes ? such as walking, cycling and traveling by bus.The thesis intends to study if the Municipality of Umeå?s policies for sustainable development have led to an increased use of public transportation. The use of public transport in Umeå is also compared with developments at national level, in order to see if there are differences in the level and trend.

Under de senaste årtionden har Ryssland genomgått en rad reformer som har bidragit till att landet har gjort enorma ekonomiska framsteg. Den stora marknaden med hög vinstpotential lockar många utländska investerare. Syftet med denna studie är därmed att undersöka Swedbanks och Handelsbankens etableringsprocess på den ryska marknaden. Mer specifikt har en rad faktorer, motiv och val av strategi studerats som har kunnat påverka bankernas etablering i Ryssland.Utifrån en rad teoretiska forskningsstudier har en sammanfattande modell utvecklats. För att därefter få svar på syftets frågor och testa teorin har en kvalitativ undersökning genomförts i form av intervjuer med två respondenter: en från ZAO Svenska Handelsbanken i Ryssland och en från Swedbank.Uppsatsens slutsatser påvisar att bankernas historiska erfarenhet har varit den främsta faktorn som underlättat etableringen medan regleringar har utgjort ett hinder.

The European continent constitutes the company?s largest customer base which makes the company?s distribution system an integral part of the business. Historically, much of the produced paper has been transported by vessels, as vessels allow large volumes of goods and deliveries to markets which are difficult to reach with other Modes of transportation.

Today Europe is faced with an identity crisis concerning its borders. Turkey stands at the threshold for an EU-membership while the EU-Commission is trying to formulate what constitutes a European identity. This identity seeking process will determine the future not only for Turkey, but also for immigrants now living in Europe.In this thesis a discourse analysis, underpinned by socialconstructionist theory, is conducted to explore how the European identity has been constructed throughout history up until today. A starting point is that identity always is defined through a dialectical relationship to "otherness". Therefore the analysis is focused not only on what a European identity consists of but also what and who it excludes.

Mångkulturella samhällen existerar överallt i världen, därolika kulturer lever sida vid sida, detta examensarbete kommer ta upp förhållandeinterkulturalism, där kulturerna lever inte bara sida vid sida utan i en relation medandra kulturer som bygger på respekt för mångfald, ömsesidigt utbyte och synergi,och dokumentärfilm i form av två undervisningsfilmer.Två undervisningsfilmer har skapats med hjälp av två olika berättarsätt, medinterkulturalism som grund.Efter en enkätundersökning gjord med respondenter på Komvux vuxenutbildningSFI, svenska för invandrare, gjordes en jämförande studie som byggde på enjämförelse mellan dessa två filmer. Jag kunde därefter konstatera attinterkulturalismens budskap bäst går fram till mottagaren genom enundervisningsfilm gjord på Bill Nichols ?The Expository mode? som grund..
