In these days of globalization, with a higher level of openness and interaction over geographical, cultural and economical borders, the importance of the company?s intangible asset, its brand, is gaining importance as a differentiating factor. Building a strong brand and the emphasis on strategic brand management is something that before was given less attention in firms but today we can see a general increase in awareness and relative emphasis in the strategic work of companies.Countries as brands: Is it possible to consider a nation or a country as a brand the same way you consider a product? Well, looking in to the subject it seems to be a rather complex matter and there are many questions to be asked and answer. Nations around the globe are indeed marketing and positioning themselves for several purposes.

The global wood pellet market has seen a rapid growth after the adoption of the Kyoto protocol and the renewable energy incentives created within the European Union. The global consumption of wood pellets reached 13,5 Million tonnes in 2010 and several experts estimate the consumption to be between 35-50 Million tonnes by 2020. These forescasts raise the questions which regions that can supply this vast amount of wood pellets and what the conditions are for producing it. This study evaluates the conditions for wood pellet production and export from British Columbia, on Canada?s west coast, focusing on existing industry structure, raw material supply and the distribution chain.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka huruvida den liberaldemokratiska synen på minoritetsrättigheter överensstämmer med den svenska språkpolitikens inställning till minoritetsspråk, historiskt och fram till nutid, med avseende på tornedalingarnas rätt att använda meänkieli. Uppsatsens tar därför formen av en tvådelad textanalys, där det i den första teoretiska delen redogörs för den liberaldemokratiska synen på minoritetsspråksrättigheter, representerad av liberala filosofer som Rawls, utilitaristiska filosofer som Mill samt den mer kommunitära liberalen Charles Taylor. I den andra delen som är av empirisk karaktär kommer den svenska språkpolitiken i Tornedalen att beskrivas, från och med mitten av 1800-talet fram till år 2000. Slutligen kommer den teoretiska delen liksom den empiriska delen att placeras in i ett analytiskt schema över staters synsätt på den nationella identiteten och förhållningssätt till minoritetsspråk, för att tydligt kunna se om den svenska språkpolitiken i Tornedalen är kompatibel med de liberaldemokratiska teoriernas inställning till minoritetsspråk. Om de teoretiska och empiriska resultaten inte sammanfaller kan det innebära stora komplikationer, eftersom det är svårt för medborgarna att acceptera och legitimera en politik som strider emot samhällets fundamentala principer.

This MSc thesis is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the need for information from forest campartments selected for clear cutting, in connection with planning in an integrated forest- and sawMill enterprise. A review of literature is followed by a case stud y, where present conditions in a Swedish forest company are compared with current research in the area. The seeond part consists of a simulation stud y, which aims at camparing the accuracy of inventory estimates using different methods. The estimates are delivery forecasts, covering one month consumptian of timber in a large sawMill.
