This paper presents why and how teachers use newspaper articles in the classroom when they educate their pupils in chemistry, biology and nature science. All the teachers have worked over 20 years and are, when interviewed, at a Swedish gymnasium in Dalarna. I also have, in a small study, interviewed some of their pupils to get their view about teachers using news paper articles during lessons.The teacher?s use of newspaper articles in the classroom can be divided in different ways. They can use the articles to illustrate up to date links to everyday life.

The tomato is an important crop worldwide, and in recent years it has received great attention due to its rich content of carotenoids, which in studies indicate to have health benefiting properties. Many studies have been done in this area of research and in how to optimize the carotenoid content in tomatoes and tomato products. The objectives of this essay were to summarize present data in this field. The results were as follows:There are nine different carotenoids identified in tomatoes. Lycopene and ?-carotene are the ones that have been given the greatest attention.

Syftet med arbetet är att konstruera en vardaglig jacka som fungerar oavsett väder, genom att undersöka krav och behov, kartlägga tillgängliga metoder, samt möjligheter att enbart använda ytbehandling som regnskydd. Kraven ställs genom att studera litteratur, samt genom en enkätundersökning. Metoderna att uppnå vattentäta textilier kategoriseras i tre grupper; mikroporösa beläggningar och laminat, hydrofila beläggningar och laminat och väldigt tätvävt material. Dess egenskaper presenteras i rapporten, framförallt tätvävt material som visade sig vara det mest passande material för jackans syfte. Möjligheten att uppnå tillräcklig vattentäthet med enbart ytbehandling testades genom att behandla olika bomullstyger, med ytbehandlingar av olika substanser.

Daily citizens are informed by the media about the environment and the climate changes. The schools purpose is to educate students according to events that are of current interest and take place in present time. According to Swedish curriculum, Lpf94, all Swedish education should include and discuss the problems surrounding durable development. The purpose of the study is to se how the textbooks in History, Social studies and Geography and their contents meet the demands of the curriculum. The study shows that only the textbooks in geography meets the demands that the curriculums have on durable development.

For centuries Islam and Muslims have been subject to islamophobic attitudes in the west. The purpose with this study was to see into the making of open and closed attitudes against Islam and Muslims from a conflict in southern Thailand, and also to so see if Muslims are portrayed as more violent than the Buddhist groups in the conflict. The aim of the study is also to see if Muslims fall into a violent stereotype. This was studied by looking at five Swedish newspapers coverage of the conflict, during a given time. To be able to look into this, two theories will be used, the first one is the Runnymede Trust theory, which is about open and closed attitudes against Islam and Muslims.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka vad som är legitimt återbruk och användning av någon annans tidigare designat material, i nya formgivna produkter eller verk. Frågeställningarna som diskuterats i arbetet är; Hur mycket av någon annans tidigare formgivna material får återanvändas i kommersiella återbruksprodukter?Vad är legitimt bruk av ?ready-mades? i konstnärliga verk?Anses det vara ett konstnärligt verk när konstnären inte själv åstadkommit alla delar av verket? Dessa frågeställningar har diskuterats utifrån juridiska och moraliska perspektiv. Som metod användes en litteraturbaserad studie av juridisk litteratur som behandlar immaterialrätt, avgränsat till bestämmelser av lag i Sverige. De juridiska reglerna jämfördes sedan med etiska teorier.

Uppsatsen syftar till att analysera politiska aktörers agerande för att framställa sin hållning inför folkomröstningen om kärnraften 1980 som trovärdig och rationell. Studien undersöker historiska källor i form av informationstätt opinionsmaterial samt statliga utredningar och propositioner med anknytning till folkomröstningen. Undersökningen är baserad på den teoribildning inom teknik- och vetenskapssociologi som kallas science and technology studies ? STS. Det analytiska verktyg som källmaterialet analyseras utifrån är begreppet energisäkerhet.

Inbreeding has become a problem in some horse breeds. Studies show that it may lead to inbreeding depression which affects e.g. reproduction traits. In the wild there are mechanisms that make horses avoid mating with close relatives. When selection is done by humans this mechanism is removed and intensive breeding for a few traits, for example good racing results, can become a problem.

Syftet med denna undersökning är att lyfta fram hur förskollärarna tänker i sina didaktiska val av lekmaterial i den fria leken. Dessa val kan påverka barns lärande och utveckling i den fria leken genom regler gällande olika materials användande. Genom material kan barn i sin fantasi omvandla ett material med ett specifikt användningsområde till något helt annat, då barn gärna transformerar material så de passar in i den fria leken. Dessa tankar baseras på det sociokulturella perspektivet.Metoden som används är intervjuer då utgångspunkten är att förstå och beskriva hur förskollärare tänker om sitt handlande, vår ansats utgår därför från ett kognitivistiskt perspektiv. Resultatet baseras på sex intervjuer av förskollärare.Resultatet som framkom i undersökningen var att samtliga förskollärare tänkte på att ge barnen fri tillgång till allt material i en tillåtande miljö.

Syftet med uppsatsen var att ta reda på mer om matematiksvårigheter och pedagogers syn och erfarenhet av detta. Syftet var även att finna ny kunskap om olika arbetssätt, vilket resulterade i insikten om olika laborativa material och dess betydelse för matematikundervisningen.Författarna valde att genomföra studien med hjälp av att låta pedagogerna skriva berättelser. För att vinna ny kunskap har författarna delvis använt sig av hermeneutisk metod för att se helheten genom de olika komplexa delarna.I studien har det visat sig att det är flera faktorer som påverkar elevers matematiska svårigheter. Denna studies syfte är att undersöka hur elever och deras bildlärare idag uppfattar bildämnet i en svensk skola samt lust som motivation. Ett socialt konstruktivistiskt samt progressivistiskt perspektiv på lärande och Peter Gärdenfors forskning om lust som motivation är denna studies teoretiska utgångspunkter. Den empiriska studien har pågått under fyra veckor på ett svenskt högstadium. Kvantitativa enkäter och kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer har genomförts med sex elever och två lärare. Resultatet från den empiriska undersökningen har analyserats och tolkats kvantitativt och kvalitativt.

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of being a homosexual immigrant in the Swedish society. Our questions were how the interviewed homosexual immigrants experience being treated by the people in their surroundings and how they are influenced by their attitudes. We also wanted to know what kind of thoughts they have about affiliation considering origin and sexuality, and what positive and negative aspects they experience from the combination of being both homosexual and immigrants.To get the answers to these questions we used a qualitative method and interviewed seven homosexual immigrants between the ages of 25 and 40 years. We then compared our material with earlier studies of the living situation of homosexual immigrants in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. We also linked our findings to Goffman's stigma theory and to heteronormativity.The main result was that the combination of homosexuality and immigrantness can result in various difficulties.

The focus of Broken Conventions is experimental cinema, that big body of film existing outside the limiting boundaries of the mainstream cinema industries. The goal is to provide a broad view of this abstract and hard-to-define area of film studies, by searching for an answer to the question; what is experimental cinema and can it be viewed as a genre of its own? In doing so, I will explore the theoretical discourse surrounding the topic, as well as provide case studies of several experimental films. I will also suggest a genre theory, as a way of determining whether or not experimental cinema can be seen as a genre, but more importantly to use it as a way of further examining the individual films and to deepen the understanding of this type of film. The topic at hand is however extremely subjective and there is no generally accepted definition, or term for that matter, concerning what experimental cinema really is.

This essay investigates the integration of the school library into teaching in one of Sweden?s senior high schools and the effects of the new education act which gives school libraries a stronger standing. A second purpose is to investigate teachers? views on professional responsibility with regard to the development of information literacy. Through an email survey different aspects of library integration are investigated.
