The aim of this study was to find possible relations between behaviour and physiology for puppies during different parts of a puppy test. This work deals mainly with the physiological part of the study. Thirtysix puppies, från five litters, were tested in a behaviour test where heart rate was measured and saliva samples were collected before and after each part in the test. Saliva and urine samples were analyzed for corisol concentration as an indicatior of stress. The tests were performed during two consecutive days in the breeders' home when the puppies were seven weeks old. In addition, heart rate and cortisol levels were also measured in the bitch since we were interested in finding out if there were any relations between physiological levels in bitches and puppies.

The flagellate Giardia intestinalis has been known to cause diarrhea in both man and dog. Results from epidemiological studies have indicated that transmission of the parasite from dog to man is plausible even though that route of infection has yet to be shown. Several international studies have shown that the parasite frequently occurs in asymptomatic dogs. In Sweden the prevalence of Giardia in healthy dogs is not known though. In this study, faecal samples were collected at two separate occasions from 21 litters and 21 bitches showing no symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract. The samples from each litter were pooled but the samples from the bitches were analyzed individually.

Med anledning av denna utveckling har innehållet i denhögre officersutbildningen radikalt förändrats. Syftet med uppsatsen har varit att medutgångspunkt i professionsteorin utforska i vilken mån den högre officersutbildningenavspeglar den militära professionens kärnkompetenser under perioden 1985-2004.Utgångspunkt tas i professionsteorin vilken försöker förklara varför vissa yrken kan ansesvara mera professionella än andra. Officersyrkets kärnkompetenser, vilka konstitueraryrket identifieras, och omsätts sedan till de ämnen i utbildningen som utgör utbildningenskärnämnen.

This thesis explore women?s needs when reentering society after having served a sentence at the female prison Färingsö, outside Stockholm and whether those needs are being met in the reentry strategies that are being provided. Parallel to this the thesis also examines if there, based on nonconformity and gender theories, is a socially constructed representation of women maintained in the rehabilitation work.The method of this thesis applied semi-structured interviews and used snowball sampling to expand the network of informants to obtain the data necessary. Totally five interviews were carried out. Previous research has shown that women in prison have much more complex problems than men and that there is a need for reentry strategies that take gender in account.The results showed that in terms of being able to reenter back in society, women needed help to structure a previously chaotic life.

In urban planning and design today interventions tend to take place in already existing areas and inevitably effect also surrounding areas. The many parties involved in any change leads to a demand for a shared language around these areas. This thesis aim to, through understanding and communicating a site, Stora Södergatan in Lund Sweden, inspire to a novel way of looking at an urban site preceding design- or planning interventions. Based on a theoretical framework where site is considered as a relational construct, material as well as immaterial, a framework for site thinking is constructed. Further, with theory of representation, the communication of the site is emphasized and accounted for as part of the framework.

Konstnären Claude Monets trädgård, som är belägen i byn Giverny några mil nordväst om Paris, är en trädgård som anlades under slutet av 1800-talet och början av 1900-talet, men som sedan rekonstruerades på 1970-talet. Trädgården, som har sitt ursprung i impressionismen, har genom sin koppling till Monet, hans konst och till en viss tid, en viss betydelse som kan skapa krav på att den rekonstruerade trädgården ska vara så lik och autentisk den ursprungliga trädgården som möjligt. Denna upplevelse av autenticitet kan i historiska trädgårdar beröra aspekter som objekt, idé, tanke eller känsla i trädgården. Inom bevarande av trädgårdar finns det flera olika metoder för bevarande, varav konservering, restaurering, rekonstruktion, och ny/-omgestaltning finns representerade i detta arbete. Rekonstruktion, som innebär ett återskapande av något som tidigare funnits, har i Monets trädgård inneburit ett återskapande som har utgått från representationer av olika slag.

The aim of this study is to find out how the tv-program I Zlatans fotspår (English: In Zlatan's footprints) broadcasted on Swedish public service television represent the participating young players and the Swedish football player Zlatan Ibrahimovi?. Our question formulation reads as follows:?        How is the participating youths being represented in the tv-program I Zlatans fotspår??        How is the football player Zlatan Ibrahimovi? being represented in the tv-program I Zlatans fotspår? Our thesis is qualitative and in order to find out how the participants are being represented we used a discourse analysis. We have focused on the theories discourse, identity, representation, stereotypes, discrimination and the perspective social constructionism.

This study concerns congenital defects in pigs; umbilical and scrotal hernia, cryptorchidism, kyphosis, splay legs, anal atresia, intersexuality and congenital tremor. The aim was to describe and estimate the prevalence of these defects and estimate the heritability for the most frequent defects, scrotal hernia and cryptorchidism in purebred Swedish Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire populations. Furthermore, information and opinions from herdsmen in commercial herds was collected and analysed. A low proportion of congenital defect pigs is of importance both from animal welfare and economic point of view. The accuracy of registration of the presence of defects in the litters has a decisive role for the ability to select against these defects.

Uppsatsens syfte har varit att lyfta fram skivomslaget genom designgrupperna Hipgnosis och StormStudios bildspråk i en populärkulturell analysmodell på tre nivåer. Ansatsen har varit att genom denna modell försöka skildra deras bildspråkliga påverkan via omslagets representation av artisterna och kommunikation med skivköparen. Skivomslaget som koncept inom skivindustrin nådde sin storhetstid under den postmodernistiska epoken från sent 1960-tal fram till 2000-talet. Uppsatsen syfte blev då även att utforska vad som utmärker designgruppernas bildspråk kopplat till postmodernismens tillstånd, konsthistorien och populärkulturella texter (bilder, litteratur, musik, tidningar, media, konst etc.).Resultatet avslöjar att Hipgnosis och StormStudios skivomslag har starka kopplingar till konsthistoriens kändaste konstnärer under modernismens epoker från bl.a. surrealismen.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur en plats kan beskrivas och vilken mening som tillskrivs den. Fredrika är en mindre tätort i Västerbottens län beläget vid Viskasjöns strand. Här bor lite drygt 200 människor och i denna uppsats får vi möta sex av dem. I materialet som grundas på kvalitativa intervjuer beskrivs hur invånarna ser på sin bygd, hur det är att leva där och tankar kring framtidens utmaningar och möjligheter. För att göra detta sammankopplas ovannämnd information till teorier inom samhällsvetenskap och socialkonstruktivism och begrepp som space, imaginative geographies och reciprocitet blir satta i arbete i en analys av platsförståelse. Vidare diskuteras den gestaltning av Fredrika som sker i det offentliga rummet, som till exempel i tv, tidningar och radio. Hur ser framställningarna ut, varför ser de ut som de gör och hur relaterar invånarna till dessa bilder? För att möta dessa frågor blir begreppet representation användbart och bidrar till diskussionen om en stadsnorm.

Discussions of structural racism has now moved to the forefront of the Swedish society, and many researchers have sought to understand what form it takes, how it is manifested, how it is exploited and challenged. At the core of this debate we find the media, and its logic embedded with mechanisms of simplification and polarization.Media is our key source of knowledge and information, why it also affects our norms, beliefs and preconceptions. Media thus has the power to mediate, amplify or challenge how we conceptualize the world, and subsequently our (unconscious) racist beliefs.To investigate how media content is influenced by underlying colonial or racist assumptions and stereotypes thus becomes a way to investigate our understanding of reality.In accordance with postcolonial thought, structural and symbolic racism is embedded in language and hidden in images, and surface in the form of domination and feminization, and the portrayal of the subaltern ?Other? as passive and irrational.This paper thus departs from postcolonial theory and media logic to undercover hidden patterns of structural, symbolic and historically contingent racism in one of Sweden?s most prominent in-depth foreign TV-magazines, namely Korrespondenterna.Adopting Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this paper explores to what extent racist and colonial stereotypes are reproduced and/or challenged in Korrespondenterna?s representation of Sub-Saharan Africa.In line with postcolonial theory it is found that historically contingent racialized stereotypes are prevalent in Korrespondenterna, and that tendencies of portraying Africa and Africans as passive, feminine and irrational are prevailing.It is thus argued that media logic, imbedded with mechanisms of simplification, polarization and intensification, contributes to the use of colonial stereotypes in media, and thus to the mediation of structural and symbolic racism..

För att kunna ge en djupare förståelse för jämställdhetsfrågan i läromedel samt hur detta kanpåverka elever och lärare innehåller den här uppsatsen en genusanalys av Good Stuff (2002)och Wings (2008), två av de vanligaste läromedlen i engelska för svenska elever i årskurs 7.Böckerna har analyserats utifrån tre aspekter: representation av män, kvinnor ochtranspersoner, adjektiva beskrivningar av manliga och kvinnliga karaktärer samt manliga ochkvinnliga karaktärers sysselsättningar. Gällande representationen kunde urskiljas att bådaböckerna hade en ojämlik fördelning av manliga och kvinnliga karaktärer där samma resultatäven kunde urskiljas i antal kända män och kvinnor benämnda i böckerna. Genom attklassificera adjektiv i de två läromedlen visade Good Stuff större skillnad i manliga ochkvinnliga beskrivningar än vad Wings gjorde. Genomgående kunde analysen visa attkvinnliga karaktärer oftare beskrivs med adjektiv betecknande skönhet än de manligakaraktärerna, medan manliga karaktärer oftast beskrevs med adjektiv betecknande mentalkapacitet och situation. Gällande de sysselsättningar som karaktärerna ägnar sig åt i respektivebok stämmer analysresultatet i stor del överens med de stereotypa bilderna av sysselsättningarsom tidigare forskning kunnat urskilja.

Livestock animals affect their environment in a number of different ways, mostly through grazing and trampling. This study focused on the effects of Gotland pony grazing on forest structure and diversity, and the impact on ground cover. To compare the fenced and grazed area with a reference area outside the enclosure a number of transects were used. The study showed that there was no significant difference in height structure and diversity between the compared sites; however, there were a significantly higher proportion of damaged trees inside the enclosure. The ground cover variables showed a higher amount of bare soil, plant litter and wood-rush (Luzula sp.) inside the enclosure whilst grass was more frequent in the reference area.
