The Situation of the Libraries of the University of Teheran

The main object of this paper is an attempt to illustrate the present situation of TeheranUniversity Central Library and its 17 faculty Libraries. The main aspects of these Librarieswhich will be discussed are collections, staffing, management, shelving, cataloguing and thelibrary users. The findings of a survey which was conducted by the author in Iran in thesummer 1995 form the main basis of the discussions.Some of the problems in these Libraries are mentioned and the possible solutions arerecommended.The study also examines the role and effect of the Islamic Revolution and de-westernizationpolicy of the present regime on these Libraries.A historical background of higher education, foundation of the University of Teheran,librarianship and the whole range of Libraries in Iran are discussed briefly..

Metadata i publikationsdatabaser Hur används DSpace?

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to study how Libraries handle metadata in institutional repositories. The methodology of the study is semi-structured interviews with librarians from all Swedish Libraries that currently use the institutional repository system DSpace. Metadata schemes from the different Libraries have also been studied. As analytical tools the study uses the user tasks presented in Functional Requirement for Bibliographic Records, as well as a study of metadata quality made by Jung-Ran Park. The study shows a rather big difference between the ways the Libraries use institutional repositories.

The aim of this master thesis is to investigate the mobile library development in Sweden since the start in Borås, Sweden in 1948. We have concentrated on three six-year periods. Our aim has been to describe a part of the mobile library development. We wanted to research the background of the said development. To do this we also studied the library and overall development in Sweden during the same years.

This paper deals with the use of Internet at Swedish public Libraries. The author asks whether public Libraries should or should not limit access to information available on the Internet. Starting from the American discussion, concerning Internet at public Libraries, the author shows the Swedish attitudes. The paper demonstrates that many Swedish public Libraries have adopted rules forbidding retrieval of certain kinds of information, such as hard-core pornography and racist propaganda. The persons in charge of such actions claim that public Libraries should provide high-quality educational literature and should not spread mass-produced, provocative information.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the reason behind thedecision to open Libraries at subway stations in Stockholm.The theoretical framework for the study is Douglas Raber´s threeideologies, social activism, conservative response and populistinitiative. The study includes interviews with librarians and apolitician responsible for the service and documents with plansfor the Public Libraries development during the period. Theempirical material was examined with an idea- and ideologicalanalysis.The conclusion is that the concept of the subway Libraries consistsof a combination of the three ideologies but the most evidentare those of populist initiative and social activism.The reason for opening Libraries at subway stations is to makethe Libraries more easily accessible, to attract new visitors and tomake the Public Libraries service more visible. Miljöarbete på bibliotek: En komparativ studie av tre folkbiblioteks yttre miljöarbete

A trend since the early 90?s has been that some public Libraries offer a special shelf containing environmental information to the community, but it seems as though the subject has been overlooked by the literature and the science community. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to study how three independent public Libraries work with environmental information that is made available to the community. The following questions were addressed: 1) Which arguments can be found as to why the Libraries offer this activity? 2) How does the environmental work at the public Libraries look and what does it contain of? 3) Are there any similarities or differences in this work between the three Libraries?To answer these questions interviews with librarians were carried out; observations were made to complement the interviews.

The competition for people´s attention becomes harder and harder. If the Libraries want to continue to attract visitors it´s important that their business is promoted. The purpose of this thesis is to in-vestigate how two public Libraries work with marketing. The study is based on a marketing model, introduced by Philip Kotler and further developed by Eileen Elliott de Sáez. Kotler believes that marketing is a social process and that everything can be promoted.

The aim of this study is to investigate the public Libraries use of their websites in their marketing. Our study is based on the websites of 60 public Libraries. The Libraries are chosen because of their geographical location in three different provinces? Skåne in the south, Östergötland in the middle and Norrbotten in the north. These three choices enable us to cover densely as well as thinly populated areas, the agricultural district, the woodland and cities of various sizes.

The aim of this master thesis is to explore what role Libraries play in the educational process for university students suffering from dyslexia. The question at issue is whether the library is able to meet the needs of students who have difficulty in using the Libraries main resource, i.e. printed documents and information in written form. An often expressed view indicates that the modern library creates a lot of obstacles for dyslectic students. The method used is a literature study followed by an empirical study in which interviews were conducted with four students suffering from dyslexia and studying at two different universities and using different Libraries.

The purpose for this Master?s thesis is to describe the similarities and the differences of the work at the public Libraries? children?s sections, between Sweden and Italy. In order to do that we examine the cultural political presumptions that Swedish and Italian Libraries have, such as policies concerning public Libraries and children, on a national as well as an international level. We also look at existing attitudes regarding the work at the public Libraries? children?s sections, among authors of research literature in our subject.

There are three different theories in this study which are used to see how the e-book reader influences the Libraries as an innovation and as a remediation from the paper book as well as its evolution. The authors have used four qualitative interviews where they have tried to find the most relevant librarians for the purpose. It was found that all the Libraries in the study think that they need to learn about the e-reader and its functions to be able to understand users? needs, but they haven´t agreed if they should have the e-reader as a library loan.

Rum och plats för datorer på folkbibliotek : En kvalitativ fallstudie

This master thesis was written in the purpose to study how the location and access to computers in the physical realm of the public library reflects the undergoing changes in the public Libraries role in Swedish society. This study is done in a form of a case study of three small public Libraries. All of them were in the process of transforming both their physical and virtual space. The thesis focuses on where in the library the computers are placed and how their location interacts with the Libraries main tasks. It also focuses on the analysis of the relationship between these two elements and how that relationship reflects the alteration of the public Libraries place in society.

This report will focus on the folkhigh-school in its general form and the role of the Libraries on these types of schools in particular. A library on folkhighschools have a tendency to be forgotten and ends up being somewhere in the middle of the libraryworld and the general educational organisations. The purpose of this essay is to examine and provide general views on the different roles that a library on a folkhighschool can have, as well as looking into the unique aspects of the type of school that a folkhighschool is in terms of influencing the Libraries placed there. The methodology used in this study is qualitative. Interviews have been held on three different folkhighschools in south of Sweden.
