The aim of this thesis is to examine whether the youth section, named ?Young adults?, in the library in our study is justified or not. We will do this by examining connections between society?s and the library?s views on youth and youth culture. In our study we examine the purpose of the young adult-department and which measures are taken to reach the purposes.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to examine what the data from recent Library- and Information Science studies tell us about the importance of school libraries in a student perspective. Our theoretical framework is built upon Elisabeth Tallaksen Rafste?s concept about the values of school libraries to students. Our aim is to investigate how students between the ages of 15 and 18 use and experience school library.

Pox-rättegången, Mangafallet och Tintin-gate : en diskursanalys av debatter och nyhetsrapportering i svensk media om tecknade serier och censur

The study aims to examine how censorship and comics have been discussed in three debates. The aim is also to identify discourses and the orders and relations of power constructed in the debates, and to examine how Librarians should handle debates about censorship and comics. Selected sources are articles from Swedish newspapers and tabloids about the debates on the Pox-trial, the manga case and the debate about Tintin in Kulturhuset. The results from the analysis indicates that the debates have been dominated by two main discourses: a discourse on freedom of speech and a discourse on social responsibility. Within the discourse of freedom of speech there is a range of perspectives that emphasize: artistic freedom, the need for open and free conversations, a discussion about how the comics are assessed in comparison with other media formats as well as a discussion about moral and moralism.

Medicinska elektroniska tidskrifter hur har forskningsbibliotekariens arbetssätt påverkats?

The aim of this study is to describe how Swedish research Librarians feel that their work has been affected by electronic journals. The study focuses on medical electronic journals accessed through consortia agreements via Bibsam, the Royal Librarys Department for National Co-ordination and Development. This thesis includes two main parts: a literature survey and an empirical study. The literature survey shows that since the 1990´s most research libraries are hybrid libraries including both printed and electronic information sources and that Librarians tasks to seek and organize information have remained but the tools have changed. Qualitative interviews were performed with four Librarians at two university libraries and one university college library on how their work with electronic journals differed from their work with printed journals, which new tasks the electronic journals have brought and which have disappeared and how the Librarians professional role has been affected.

The digital dark age? Bevarande av elektroniskt material i Sverige

The first law in Sweden containing an act of legal deposit is from 1661. Since then the printing-houses are supposed to deliver all printed material to the Royal Library and other recipient libraries. Today, more and more information is solely published electronically. This material is not yet included in the law of legal deposit. In a similar way as our printed cultural heritage is saved for posterity our electronic cultural heritage has to be saved.

This thesis investigates clinical nurses? information seekingand information use through semi-structured interviews withsix nurse practitioners, nurses with further education.Previous research shows that nurses have problemsimplementing evidence-searching at the clinic because oforganization, stress and heritage of an old practice that doesnot incorporate the academic education.The theoretical framework consists of T.D. Wilson?sinformation seeking behavior model and R.H. Orr?s model ofinformation needs.

Bloggen ? ett redskap för byggande av identitet och sociala nätverk: En kvalitativ studie av bibliotekariers bloggande

Weblogs, or blogs, are frequently modified web pages with a series of archived entries, generally in reverse chronological sequence. This thesis focuses on the rapid-growing phenomenon of weblogs and the fact that individuals with a background in library and information science are frequent users of weblogs. Since this is an explorative inductive study the ultimate purpose can be described as to find out what ?blogging? as activity is about. The research questions posed are: Why do individuals with a background in library and information science use weblogs? How does their professional identity affect their blogging? And finally; how do they use the weblog to create networks with other bloggers? The empirical material consists of audiotaped interviews with five informants who are all employed in knowledge work, either as Librarians or information specialists.

Omvärldsbevakning på bibliotek

The purpose of this article is to investigate how and from which sources Librarians collect information on their profession with respect to factors that are important for their work. In order to achieve this goal, a questionnaire-based survey will be conducted at three medium-sized central-public-libraries in southern Sweden. Using this survey, I wish to answer the following four questions: To what extent do Librarians acquaint themselves with changes and developments within regional and cultural policy arenas important to their work? To what extent do Librarians acquaint themselves with information using conferences and library debates that are focussed on changes and developments relevant to their work? Do Librarians consider that they have enough time within the limits of their work hours to follow developments within the Librarian profession, for example with respect to developments within information technology, and how would they appraise the future demand for information technology-based services at the library? From which source(s) do Librarians collect information relevant to their work? The theoretical basis of this paper can be compared to a radar as it scans subjects-of-interest to the organization in the field of business intelligence. This investigation uses a quantitative method, with data collected via a survey consisting of 13 questions.

?Vi vill ju så gärna hjälpa dom? : Problem och möjligheter med användarundervisning vid ett universitetsbibliotek

The purpose of this essay was first and foremost to find out the problems that exist around user education in a university library and the opportunities that exist for university Librarians to improve their work with students. My method of use was qualitative and more precise qualitative interviews. By interviewing five teaching Librarians with five different subject specializations, I wanted to get an an-swer to what they teach when they meet the students and how they view their teaching. Responses resulted then in an analysis using Christine Bruce's theory of information literacy and Carol C. Kuhlthaus theory of Librarian roles and her theory of information retrieval process.

Österåkers folkbiblioteksutveckling under åren 1958 ? 1983

The purpose of this thesis is to describe and analyse the development of the public library in the district of Österåker during a period of 1958-1983. The main goals have been to identify the crucial events in the history of the library within their historical context and to analyse the factors that have been important for the development: financing, location, staffing, stock of books, book-lending level and different activities for children, youngsters and adults. The consideration has been taken to reasons and consequences of these events. The hermeneutic interpretation model of interaction between parts and wholes, between reasons and results is the basic method in this research which leans mainly upon local archives in Österåker. The public library in Österåker was established in 1952 as a fusion of previously existing small libraries: the parish library in Östra Ryd, the Labour Movement?s library and the temperance movement?s library.

Bibliotek och ungdomar med annan språklig bakgrund än svenska ? en enkätundersökning

This thesis examines what and in which language young people in Sweden with other linguistic backgrounds than Swedish read, as well as if they have access to the literature that they demand, how they use the library and what kind of role the library plays to them. The chosen method was quantitative and it consisted of a questionnaire as this method is useful in quantifying phenomena, which is the purpose of this thesis. The investigation shows that the studied population is bilingual. I hope that the thesis points out the range of the problems and that these issues need to be solved within the society and not the within the family. We need to make use of the resources of the young immigrants, as their cultural competence, in some cases even bi-cultural competence, can be useful for the Swedish society.

Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av projektet ?Klinisk bibliotekarie? som arbetsform

Bakgrund: Snabb kunskapsutveckling, ökade krav på kvalité och kostnadseffektivitet inom hälso- och sjukvården gör det viktigt att sjuksköterskor har god förmåga att söka och använda evidensbaserad kunskap. Idag finns ett glapp mellan forskning och klinik. Sjuksköterskor upplever flera hinder till att arbeta evidensbaserat. Under hösten 2010 och våren 2011 pågick ett projekt på ett sjukhus i en stad i mellansverige. Projektet hette ?Klinisk bibliotekarie?, syftet var att höja vårdkvalitén och patientsäkerheten genom att det dagliga vårdarbetet ska bli mer evidensbaserat och att sjuksköterskorna ska känna större säkerhet i att ta fram vetenskapligt underlag för sitt arbete.Syfte: Belysa sjuksköterskornas erfarenhet av projektet ?Klinisk bibliotekarie?.Metod: Studien har en kvalitativ design.

Gymnasieelevers informationskompetens : En studie i sju klasser i gymnasiets år 3

This master's thesis examines information literacy and students in secondary education. The study is framed within a sociocultural perspective of learning and the method used is questionnaires. The major question posed is how and where students seek information. Other questions are if the students critically evaluate and analyse in­formation sources and if teachers and school Librarians cooperate with each other in order to help the students with their assignments.The findings indicate that most students regard information seeking as fact-finding or finding the right an­swers to the question. Only one third of students experienced information seeking as seeking and using informa­tion for understanding a topic.

Bokcirklar och samhället : Bokcirklar belysta av Jürgen Habermas teorier

The purpose of this work has been to understand the reading group from the perspective of the society. The studyhas taken place in the city of Västerås and the results can thus not be used in a more generalized sence. Byfocusstudies conducted with members from four different reading groups connected in different ways to the libraryin Västerås I have reached the following conclusions.According to Jürgen Habermas theories the reading groups, with their ideals regarding education and meetingswhere everybody are equals, belong in the part of the public sphere that he calls literary. There are someconnections to the political sphere, for exempel the down to earth quality of the literature that is the choice ofthe groups and their way of discussing it.One problem that occures when one tries to apply Habermas idéas regarding the public sphere on readinggroups is that the criteria Habermas considers as vital to sphere for it to work properly does not seem to workon the reading groups. Inclusion, eqality and freedom of subjects are necessary to create a public sphere.

"Skilda världar" : skolbibliotekariers undervisning i informationssökning i gymnasieskolan

?SEPARATE WORLDS?. School Librarians teaching in information seeking in high school.The aim of this Master's thesis is to study how information seeking is taught in high school and how school Librarians describe their experiences of teaching information seeking. Five school Librarians from five different high schools (gymnasium) in Skåne participated in the study. The empirical data derives from five interviews and fourteen observations conducted over a period of three weeks.
