There is a known link between relative deprivation and street crime among market liberal countries. Although some research has been done with cross-national data, there is none to suggest that the observed link is as valid in a country well known for its extended welfare and generous social expenditure like Sweden. The following study uses longitudinal data to see if this recognized link between relative deprivation and street crime also stands in a country with almost a century long tradition of striving for social-, economic- and cultural equality. Even though Sweden, over the last decade, has been subjected to a series of deregulations due to policy changes at national level, and with a following rise in inequality, it is still considered to be one of the most equal countries in the west. It is therefore not unlikely that the high degree of social security will reduce the negative impact of relative deprivation on social relations among its citizens, perhaps enough so that the correlation will be significantly weakened.

The purpose of this study has been to investigate how the temperance movement IOGT in Karlstadcampaigned for people to vote for a referendum on alcohol in 1922 and how it has been tackled bythe local press. To answer the purpose a qualitative text interpretation has been used from IOGT'smeetings protocols and the local press used are the two largest newspapers in Karlstad during thisperiod of time, Karlstads-Tidningen and Nya Wermlands-Tidningen. The type of examinationperformed is called interpretive case study where it has been used a theoretical basis. Thetheoretical point is Habermas Bourgeois publicity also been used by Lars Båtefalk in his thesisStaten, samhället och superiet. Can the temperance movement be said to take part of the publicsphere?The results show that IOGT during this period have grown large enough to be a part of the publicwhich Båtefalk mean was not the case around 1900.

The world is getting smaller. Global markets, political processes and communication technology bring people together. Even though many of these processes are dynamic and constructive, they have also resulted in a need for better and more effective ways of international conflict resolution. This thesis investigates central issues connected to the concept of humanitarian interventions in relation to current and future legislation of the European Union. The overall question is whether the rapid globalization process has resulted in a change of international law towards more liberal view where authorization of the security council is not always needed? And, if there has actually been such a liberalization, how does that affect the legal possibilities for the European Union to carry out armed operations without the consent of the global community?The conclusion of the thesis is that international law has been modified mainly in two aspects: First, the concept of sovereignty is no longer seen merely as a right of the nation, but also as a responsibility.

Demokrati och demokratiseringsprocesser uppkommer inte bara ur tomma intet. Bakom varje förändringsprocess ligger ett antal faktorer eller orsaker som ger upphov till förändringen. Syftet med denna uppsats var att analysera den folkliga organiseringens påverkan på initieringen av demokratiseringsprocesserna i Jemen och Liberia, med anledning av 2011 års tilldelning av Nobels fredspris. Problemet som skulle utredas var, hur denna folkliga organisering och påverkan teoretiskt kunde förklaras. Kunde initieringen av processerna förklaras utifrån den traditionella demokratiseringsteorin, kunde fallen snarare förklaras utifrån begreppet sociala rörelsers kollektiva handlande, eller var det i själva verket så att det var kvinnornas specifika roll som kunde förklara processerna.

This paper examines the power producing dams along the Ume-river as an integral part of and a result from the urbanization process in Sweden during industrial capitalism. The aim of the paper is to contribute to the knowledge of the urbanization process in Sweden in general and of its traces along the Ume river in the county of Västerbotten in particular. The paper applies the theory of concentrated urbanization and extended urbanization put forward by Neil Brenner and Christian Schmid (2015) and argues that the building of power producing dams along the Ume-river is part of an extended urbanization process. This becomes particularly evident when examining the vast physical structures that is the dams, situated in an otherwise remote and sparsely populated area. These vast physical structures are also very well connected to a nation wide electric grid that has connections to bordering countries as well.

This Bachelor?s thesis examines and describes the governmental cultural policy in Sweden. The relation between the state and the market in society is in focus. Earlier research is used to describe the development of cultural policy in Sweden after the world war two until today. Two governmental bills are examined and described, one from 1974 and one from 2009.

Detta examensarbete behandlar lärares sätt att se på och undervisa i etik, samt lärares påverkan på barns etiska och moraliska utveckling. I arbetet kommer det fram att lärarna i min undersökning ser som sin främsta uppgift att stödja barnens utveckling, så att de ska klara av framtida konflikter och problem. Detta sker bl a genom etikundervisning, ofta i form av diskussion eller värderingsövningar. Informanterna anser att deras påverkan på barnens utveckling är väldigt stor, något som styrks av litteraturgenomgången..

AbstractThis study examines the conclusions made by Roland Paris in his case study of fourteen major post-war reconstruction efforts following the end of the Cold War, and applies them to the current reconstruction process in post-war Iraq. Paris found a common denominator of the fourteen cases ? a belief that a rapid liberalization process, turning war-torn states into liberal market democracies, would foster sustainable peace. Paris calls this belief ?Wilsonianism? after Woodrow Wilson, who was one of the first advocates of it.

This essay conducts a descriptive analysis of the ideas expressed by NATO´s official security strategy "Strategic Concept" from 2010 and the European Union?s security strategy "A Secure Europe in a Better World" from 2003. The purpose of this analysis is to examine whether the ESDP and NATO are compatible with each other when it comes to the role of security policy actor. To do so, I´ve chosen to analyse the actors' security strategies based on three dimensions. These dimensions are: Their view of the international scene, their views on cooperation and their views on how to reach security.

Att undersöka möjligheterna att åstadkomma elevdemokratisering genom ett elevråd utgör studiens syfte. Detta mot bakgrund av den svenska skolans värdegrund som lyfter fram elevernas inflytande över sin utbildning, samt deras rättigheter att bli hörda, att organisera sig och att påverka sin vardag. Det åligger läraren att och föra över demokratiska värderingar samt att fostra demokratiska medborgare, enligt styrdokumenten. Elevrådet vid en gymnasieskola i Halland utgör studieobjektet för undersökningen, som granskas genom de mötesprotokoll, informationsbroschyrer och affischer som producerats under dess första verksamhetsår. Metoden för materialinsamling och dess bearbetning har sin utgångspunkt i teorier som presenteras inom ramen för demokrati- och pedagogikforskning inom den svenska skolan.

We wanted to examine the issue by illustrating the historical and recent development of the drug political policy and the growth of the methadone programme in both countries.We chose to work with the following questions:1. Denna uppsats syftar till att beskriva olika idéer om demokratiskt deltagande som förekommer i läroböcker i samhällskunskap för gymnasiet. De tre läroböckerna som undersökts har varit gällande under tre olika läroplaner för svensk gymnasieskolan. Undersökningens teoretiska ramverk bygger på Thomas Englunds utbildningskonceptioner. Med hjälp av idealtyper baserade på dessa olika utbildningskonceptioner har en textanalys genomförts. Undersökningens resultat visar att de identifierade utbildningskonceptionerna skiljer sig åt bland de tre undersöka böckerna.  .

Syftet med denna uppsats är att synliggöra och tolka musikpedagogiska grundsyner bland pianolärare inom svensk kommunal musik- och kulturskola.Arbetet tar sin utgångspunkt i lärarnas autonomi, den frihet de har att utforma undervisningen utifrån deras personliga värderingar och åsikter.Inom musik- och kulturskolan finns kommunpolitiskt uppsatta målformuleringar. Meningarna i dessa dokument skiljer sig dock avsevärt från varandra. Jämför vi med grund- eller gymnasieskolan finns där en helt annan grad av styrning. De nationella direktiven har en helt annan legitimitet och påverkan för den pedagogiska verksamheten. På så vis förstår vi att musik- och kulturskolans verksamhet i mångt och mycket blir ett resultat av den enskilda lärarens uppfattningar och ideal kring uppdraget som musiklärare.
