With growing economies and better living standards in many parts of the world today, there is a need of expanding the capacity of generating electricity. The alternatives for renewable energy technologies are not fully developed and have still some problems to conquer.The company Minesto has developed a technology that is called Deep Green. It is designed to gain electricity from tidal currents. Deep Green works in a similar way as a kite that is attached to the seafloor with a moving wire. It contains of a wing that moves due to the water current.

Syftet med vårt examensarbete är att skapa ett informationsmaterial för nyinflyttade i Västerås kommun som så många som möjligt ska kunna ta del av. Vårt mål är att både lässvaga och lässtarka människor ska känna sig lika betydelsefulla när de läser informationsmaterialet. Vår forskningsfråga är därför: Går det att kombinera principerna för informationsdesign och principerna för lättläst för att nå både en lässvag och en lässtark grupp så att båda känner sig lika viktiga och tar till sig budskapet? Och om det går, hur kan man då gå tillväga?Vår uppdragsgivare är Centrum för lättläst som arbetar med att göra information tillgänglig för dem som har svårt att läsa. De behöver ett utprovat referensmaterial av ett lättillgängligt informationsmaterial som de kan visa upp för olika kommuner i sitt arbete mot ett tillgängligt samhälle.För att besvara vår forskningsfråga använder vi oss av litteraturstudier, samt kvalitativa och kvantitativa studier i form av utprovningar.

The purpose of this thesis work is to evaluate how the physical behaviour of a pipe bend is affected by the pipe bending procedure. Effects such as initial ovalization, thinning, thickening and plastic hardening from the bending procedure are examined and the mechanical properties of pipe bends containing these effects are investigated.This has been evaluated by creating a detailed Finite Element model of a pipe that is being bent. Then the differences compared to a bent tube in a virgin state, so called Elbow elements and an analytical in-house program have been evaluated. The virgin state refers to a model of a pipe that is bent from the beginning, thus having a homogeneous thickness and not containing any plastic hardening. The Elbow element is a calculationally cheap element, specially developed for accurate calculations of pipe bends in an initially virgin state.The goal with the thesis work is to get a better picture of what happens to a pipe as it is being bent, how this affects the mechanical properties and to evaluate the possibility to develop an easy method for taking these effects into account when using the Elbow element.This report describes the layout of the work and how the detailed FE-model has been constructed.

IKEA har under hösten 2006 utfört en egen undersökning av deras webbplats, www.ikea.se. En del av syftet blir således att resultatet skulle kunna fungera som ett bra komplement till den undersökningen. Vårt sätt att genomföra detta grundar sig på en kvalitativ studie genom observationer och efterföljande intervjuer med ett antal testpersoner. Enligt teorier hämtade från området för användbarhet och webbdesign påverkar områdena struktur, navigering, länkar, design/layout, information, text, bild och färger möjligheten till en god webbplats, dessa begrepp fungerar även som en utgångspunkt för vår datainsamling. IKEAs vision är att ?skapa en bättre vardag för de många människorna?, därför tycker vi att det är av största vikt att även deras webbplats är funktionell och användbar för den svenska populationen.

Blast furnace is the heart of every steel plant. Steel production is based on the blast furnace process, as it is where the iron is extracted from the iron ore and turned into liquid iron, which will subsequently be used to make liquid steel. Therefore, without hot iron, steel can not be produced. Blast furnaces in this process are supplied among others with pulverized coal. Raw coal should be prepared for the blast furnaces in the form of fine coal powder.

This study investigated the possibility of implementing three standards, Transistion Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) and two versions of Stub Series Terminated Logic (SSTL), for inter-chip communication in a specific manufacturing process. The two SSTL standards were implemented in one transceiver system while TMDS was implemented in a separate system. The evaluation was done with Spice simulations on schematic level with some parasitic capacitance and resistance. The idea was to investigate the possibility of implementing these standards and get an idea of eventual shortcomings. In order to create models as a basis for evaluation, simulation environments with models for circuit board and packages were created and transmitters and receivers were designed.

Den här rapporten innehåller information om hur jag har gått till väga i mitt examensarbete, som har bestått i att utforma två broschyrer och tre skyltar till ett kopparverk i Riddarhyttan. I rapporten redogör jag för hur jag har gått tillväga vid utformningen av mitt arbete, de teoretiska utgångspunkterna som ligger till grund för utformningen samt det slutgiltiga resultatet.Bakgrunden till uppgiften är att den befintliga broschyren är, enligt min uppdragsgivare Mona Kärner Eliasson, väldigt jobbig att läsa med svåra facktermer och dåligt utförd layout. De har även tidigare funnits ett skyltsystem som de var tvungna att ta ned för att det var i dåligt skicka och det var även svårt att förstå och hänga med i texterna.Vid utformningen av de nya informationsmaterialen har jag både utgått från min uppdragsgivares önskemål så väl som de teoretiska erfarenheterna som jag har fått från böcker och min utbildning inom informationsdesign. Jag började med att titta på broschyren som redan fanns på plats vid kopparverket, och därefter inledde jag mitt arbete med att söka information om och bilder på kopparverket. Jag ringde även runt till olika myndigheter för att få mer information om vilka lagar och regler jag var tvungen att följa i mitt arbete.

This thesis gives the reader an understanding for newsletters within e-commerce, and how to work with them as a channel for marketing. Furthermore it explains the technical and graphical demands, and how to ensure that the newsletter reaches the intended receivers.A successful newsletter can entice people to shop, but can also help to strengthen a brand and the relationship between the customer and the company. During the writing of the thesis, it has emerged that the most important part of a newsletter (which also determine whether or not the receiver reads the letter) are the subject heading, sender, layout, headlines,images and the deregistration link.A part from working with the different parts of the letter, the sender should also be aware of the technical and graphical demands. Since the E-mail clients are looking out forimages, fonts that are not embedded in the computer, and for questionable words there?s a big risk for ending up in a spam filter when not considering the demands.

Många företag vill marknadsföra sina produkter och tjänster via Internet. För en nätbutik räcker det inte med att finnas på webben, utan det krävs också att nätbutiken är användarvänlig och attraktiv. För att underlätta produktionen av en sådan har över tid vedertagna metoder och principer utvecklats. Våra egna erfarenheter tyder dock på att många nätbutiker inte alls är uppbyggda efter dessa. Därför valde vi att undersöka om de teoretiska designprinciper som finns idag verkligen används av webbyråer och varför.

In this report a new gear concept is evaluated using the magnetic finite element method (FEM)software MagNet and Ansys as well as the mechanical FEM software Abaqus. The gear conceptis evaluated in terms of maximum torque capability, torsional stiffness, gear ratio and efficiency.ABB Corporate Research has proposed a new gear concept which should be less expensive thangearboxes used today. The new concept is called aMagnetic Harmonic Traction Drive and usesthe principles of a harmonic drive gear to achieve a high reduction ratio. The gear conceptreplaces the wave generator used in traditional harmonic drives with magnets and uses tractioninstead of gear teeth to transfer the torque. The main components in the gearbox are the magnets,the flexspline, the magnetic portion and the circular spline.

Studiens syfte är att undersöka pojkars attityder och intressen till läsning. Den baseras på intervjuer med nio pojkar i årskurs fem utifrån följande frågeställningar: vilka faktorer upplever pojkar påverkar deras intresse för läsning, hur anser pojkar att läraren påverkar deras läsintresse samt vilken typ av texter väljer pojkar att läsa? Arbetet är en kvalitativ studie som bygger på semistrukturerade intervjuer med pojkar från två olika klasser. Studien utgår från teorin literacy, vilket betyder läs- och skrivkunnighet. Analysen av intervjuerna genomfördes med hjälp av fenomenografi som är en sjustegsmodell för dataanalys.

Today a trend can be seen towards fewer dairy farms and increasing number of cows per farm. Larger farms set a higher demand of more labour efficient milking systems. The time to enter and exit milking rotary platforms is crucial to maintain a high cow throughput. This study is a project initiated by DeLaval in order to evaluate the cow throughput and cow behaviour during entry and exit in two types of parallel external rotaries with different bail designs. The two rotaries compared were DeLaval parallel rotary PR2100 and PR3100HD.

In this report I summarize the thesis, which is about to check what will happen if you decide to increase the interval between the a-checks, carried out on the Norwegian airline Widerøe. They want to know if an increase in time between the checks can give them an opportunity of increasing their aircraft fleet. In the current situation Widerøe has 11  Dash 8 Q400 and can consider a possible increase of 3 planes. This would be done without the need to increase accessibility of the hangars and increase in staff.What determines how often a check is performed is the maintenance tasks which has the shortest maintenance interval. On the Dash 8 the shortest interval is 600 flight hours.
