This essay examines resident experiences and notions of the Gotland countryside and their ideas about the future. In particular the countryside is studied as both space and place. In space and place people interacting. People are therefore important components in the study of the landscape. One can say that the landscape and the interaction between people affect resident experiences and notions of the countryside, as well as people certainly affect the landscape.

This paper intends to provide a better understanding of how to rebuild a crisis affected area and how to plan for the inhabitants of a wounded city. It will also examine the landscape architect's tasks in this work to provide a planning perspective. The discussion of reconstruction is significant because the insight and knowledge in the subject is needed in order to help nations after a disaster. Bosnia-Herzegovina's capital Sarajevo is a city recovering from a civil war where the city's situation was complicated by an ethnic conflict that has been segregating it. The restoration of the city's structure can free people from their tragedy and make them live again.

Landscape urbanism has for the last decade been a topic for debate among practitioners and theorists involved in forming the contemporary city. The advocates for landscape urbanism mean that traditional dichotomies like city and country are invalid to illustrate the contemporary urban realm. Rather, a new urban morphology has evolved, which calls for new methods and models when approaching the city. Landscape urbanism suggests a revaluation of landscape in order to develop these approaches. This paper sets out to map how this is addressed within landscape urbanism.

School ground development is becoming increasingly popular in Sweden today and local community settings are also seen as an important resource for education. The debate today raises the question about the whole city?s pedagogic potential. Outdoor education is a pedagogy that comprises outdoor learning with focus on the sensual experiences. Connection to the classroom education is an important part of the pedagogy and so is the place for the tuition.But how should the place for the tuition, i.e.

3D modeling is a common tool in Landscape architecture. Today, there have been new ways in which virtual 3D models are successful tools in the dialogue with the public. These new methods involve children and young people who are groups that is hard to reach and engage in citizen dialogues. The purpose of this work was to investigate how a virtual 3D model works in the landscape architect?s communication with the public through the project Gruvstadsparken in Kiruna. Through workshops, I wanted to communicate Gruvstadsparken to get ideas from participants on how the park can be used and be revisited.

Syftet med undersökningen var att utvärdera metoder för hur landskapsarkitekter kan kommunicera med små barn (3-6år) kring planering av deras fysiska utemiljö så att barnens perspektiv framkommer. Tre kommunikationsmetoder: ?Tecken och karta?; ?the Insight Method ? och ?Stafettberättelse?, testades och dokumenterades genom metoden observation och loggbok. Observationerna analyserades sedan under rubrikerna: barns perspektiv och tidsåtgång. I studien framkom att metoderna inte entydigt nådde barnens perspektiv och att metoderna skiljde sig åt vad gällde tidsperspektiv.

Uppsatsen behandlar Helsingborgs konserthus och funktionalismen. Med denna byggnad som exempel på tidig funktionalism diskuteras denna stilriktning och dess historiska referenser med ett fokus på relationen till klassicismen. Uppsatsen inleds med ett avsnitt om arkitekten Sven Markelius och en beskrivning av konserthusets tillkomst. Sedan belyses de samtida idéströmningar som präglade arkitekten och denna period av arkitekturhistorien. Därefter följer en deskriptiv analys av konserthuset och dess former.

This study sets out to investigate the social significance and political use of three historical places, from the theoretical starting points of landscape, objects, society and rituals. The Teutoburger Forest in North Germany has had an international effect, being a german national icon during the reformation and through two world wars, Old Uppsala is a place of great importance for the creation and reproduction of Swedish national identity during several hundred years, and Eketorp ring fort on Öland in Sweden is of more regional importance. All these places have been used for social and political reasons through history. History can be used in a constructive or a destructive way. Integration policies have failed to make diversity into anything more than occupying the same physical space. People of different cultural background still do not share their lives to any real extent. Attempts made within planning and Landscape architecture to catalyst the integration process have mainly been focused on structural measures, such as residential policies. As for outdoor environments, non-verbal casual encounters in the shape of crossing paths are assumed to lie at the heart of urban social integration.The aim of the thesis is to question this assumption and, as the thesis will show, there is literature supporting this aim. Looking at the works of Gordon Allport, Lewis Coser and some of their followers, I find intercultural contact to require more complex ways of interaction in order to reduce prejudice and to generate tolerance and understanding.

The aim of this Master´s thesis in Art History and Visual Studies is to examine the existence and theexpressions of openness and interior space in the contemporary Swedish architecture of singlefamilyhouses. Research has focused on open-plan housing with open connections between kitchenand living areas, large windows, walls of glass, high ceiling heights and entresol or loft levels, usingtwo case studies and analyses of seven reference objects. Interpretation is based onphenomenological theoretical perspectives.Houses that are more or less transparent permit views from both the inside and the outside. Adiscussion of this potential dilemma is supported by sociological perspectives on identity, life-style,self-presentation, privacy and publicity..

On a preschool outdoors, gets the child opportunities to shape materials and the place they are on, the environment on preschool outdoors is formable and the children fantasy is big. Nothing is decided on a preschool outdoors ahead and nothing is static, here is the place where the child creates together with the nature and landscape. The landscape has a central part in the child?s play and in the child development and there are often no limits.

Denna kandidatuppsats syfte är att utforska hur Landskapsarkitektprogrammet, vid Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet i Alnarp, hanterar medvetenheten hos studenterna kring ?gestaltningskonventioner? och ?Varför? de gör vissa saker i en gestaltningssituation. Uppsatsen baseras på två kvalitativa intervjuer med två av de mest uppskattade lärarna på Landskapsarkitektprogrammet vid SLU Alnarp. Men den tar även avstamp i litteraturstudier kring pedagogik och kulturbundna uppfattningar. Resultatet av uppsatsen visar att det finns ett tydligt mål, hos lärarna, att främja självständigt tänkande hos studenterna. Den visar även att de pedagogiska metoder som används av lärarna, i exemplen, stöds av lärandepreferenserna hos majoriteten av studenterna. Den belyser vikten av att ha förmågan att motivera val under och efter utbildningen.

The aim of this essay is to see if there are any relationship between the four Megalithic graves, and the newly excavated dwelling site in Resmo socken on Öland. The Megalithic graves on Öland consist of one dolmen and three passage graves. Is the excavated site a settlement? Since there are no signs of housing constructions, I will also explore other possible purposes of the site. What surprised the excavators was the concentration of pits that contained ceramics, flints and burned bones.
