This thesis applies a discourse theoretical approach in order to examine in whatways and with what possible meanings the library at KVINFO participates in the overall gender discourse in society. This means that our reading takes place at a metatheoretical level, focussing on the library as a constructor of meaning in relation to society's gender discourse.Besides the actual reading, the thesis argues for the fruitfulness of using both a discourse theoretical and a feministic perspective in the field of Library and Information Science. By looking at libraries in general through a lens provided by these perspectives, libraries are staged as battlegrounds for competing discourses,that attempt to promote its particular knowledge claim on how reality should be perceived.The reading shows that it is possible to perceive the library at KVINFO as amaterial articulation that takes shape by and is part in a feministic counterdiscourse against the masculinistic hegemonic discourse, which throughout ?hisstory? has positioned women as ?the other?, and established men as the normative category in society, including the libraries. Through its practise KVINFO has contributed to a change in the collective identity ascribed to women.

This study aims to determine whether pupils, students and teachers at various music schools feel that there is a difference in status between different music styles/genres, and if this has an impact on the individual level. The survey was conducted with a digital survey that was e-mailed to junior/high schools with music profile in the Stockholm area and to all the teachers and students at the Royal College of music in Stockholm (KMH). Due to low participation by students and teachers from the junior/high schools the students and teachers of KMH became the main object of the study. The results shows that a majority of the main group of this study feels that there is a difference in status between different music styles/genres. The study also shows that half of the participants believe that the difference in status affects them on an individual level.

Tankevärldar och förhållningssätt i särskolans musikverksamhet av Liselott Stenman, är en studie inom ramen för Magisterprogrammet i musikpedagogik med profil musikterapi vid Kungl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm.Bakgrunden till denna studie står att finna i min tidigare erfarenhet som musiklärare på en särskola med skolverksamhet för barn och ungdomar med diagnostiserad utvecklingsstörning samt funktionshinder. För några år sedan gav en elevsituation upphov till frågor kring förhållningssätt hos personalen på denna skola, vilket väckte mitt intresse för fenomenet förhållningssätt. Denna studie söker därför svar på hur fem informanter med olika anknytning till särskolans musikverksamhet tänker kring fenomenet förhållningssätt. Syftet är att belysa frågan på ett individuellt plan för att erhålla fördjupad kunskap om tankar runt förhållningssätt inom denna verksamhet.

The underlying purpose of this study is to see whether a library focused solely on providing literature in other languages than Swedish serves as a unifying, integrating force, or as an agent for division and exclusion. The study focuses on the International Library in Stockholm. The authors have created a profile of the visitors of the selected library, concerning their characteristics, their library habits and their perceptions of the International library. This profile has then been compared with the staff?s perception of the visitors as a group.

The aim of this study is to examine how teenage boysperceive the public library. How do they utilize the resourcesprovided by a public library? What are their thoughtsregarding what a public library offers in terms of services toits visitors? Four qualitative interviews with teenage boyswere done for the purpose of this study. The study showsthat these individuals perceive the library as a resource foryoungsters, women, elders or people with disabilities orspecial needs, but not themselves..

The subject of this Master?s thesis is the process of change in a public library context, the implementation of the Stockholm City Library?s homepage Biblioteket.se. The aim is to examine the factors that influence this particular change and how they affect the process and extent of change in practice. The study designed as a qualitative case study is based primarily on document analysis, and supplemented by an interview. DiMaggio?s and Powell?s three mechanisms of change; coercive, mimetic and normative isomorphism, is applied.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the points of view of three groups of actors about their local learning center and its collaboration with the library. By interviewing groups of actors from the municipal sector, the library staff and students, I aim to investigate their associations of the learning centre, what kind of services it should offer, and how they understand the role of the library staff in specific collaboration between the public library and the adult education administration. The study design is based on Gunnar Grepperud?s and Terje Thomsen?s three missions for a local learning centre; the mission of a broker, a meeting place and a motivator. I also use Carol Kuhlthau?s levels of mediation as an approach to investigate how the actors want the library staff to work in relation to the centre.

In this thesis, the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) encoding scheme is investigated as a system for storing metadata about manuscript material and 18th century first prints in the Swedenborg Archives at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences. The aim of the study is to test the functionality of TEI as a metadata system in cataloguing a special collection. Some criteria of functionality are formulated, and examples of encoded catalogue entries are described and analysed. It is demonstrated how descriptive metadata have been registered within the TEI header, while structural metadata have been recorded within the text element of the TEI file. On the whole, TEI is considered to be a functional tool that matches the present purposes.

The purpose of this study has been to examine reading habits and the use of the library by pre­school teachers in a mainly multicultural community, and also explore to what extent activities in the local library are aimed at preschoolers.The study used a sociocultural approach based on Vygotsky?s theories of learning and development and Söderbergh?s theory of early childhood language development, and was carried out during the summer 2009. The methodology used was both quantitative and qualitative, with a combination of questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires were sent out to each section of the municipal pre­schools within the catchments area of the local public library in a multicultural suburb of Uppsala. Three short interviews were carried out with staff at the local and main library branches, as well as library staff at the County Council.The results show that, although preschool teachers find reading important in their work, many teachers read spontaneously and/or sporadically.

Syfte Studiens syfte var att undersöka vilka uppfattningar det finns kring skolbibliotekets funktion för lärande kopplat till barn i behov av särskilt stöd. Forskningsfrågorna berörde erfarenheter som finns av skolbibliotekets roll för lärande, vilken relation skolbiblioteket har i förhållande till övrig pedagogisk verksamhet och vilka förväntningar pedagoger och skolbiblioteks¬ansvariga har på varandra.MetodGenomförandet bestod av en kvalitativ undersökning på tre grundskolor med hjälp av forsk¬ningsintervjuer med pedagoger och skolbibliotekarier. Det inspelade intervjumaterialet bear¬betades med hjälp av transkribering och tolkning utifrån våra forskningsfrågor. Resultatet dis¬kuterades sedan och kopplades till studiens syfte och den forskning som finns på området.ResultatResultatet visade att pedagoger och bibliotekarier värnar och uppskattar sin skolbiblioteks¬verksamhet. Man vill gärna använda biblioteket i undervisningen och lärandet, men har svårt att skapa former för samverkan.Det råder också osäkerhet om hur man bygger upp effektiva stödstrukturer för elevernas lä¬rande i biblioteket.

Grunden för examensarbetet är den tävling om nytt stadsbibliotek i Stockholm som Stockholms stad utlyste 2006. Det nuvarande stadsbiblioteket från 1928, ritat av Erik Gunnar Asplund, är en av Sveriges mest kända byggnader. Uppgiften har varit att rita en tillbyggnad som kan bilda en helhet tillsammans med det nuvarande biblioteket. Det har handlat om att först värdera det som finns idag och sedan tillföra något för framtiden..

Syftet med studien var att undersöka stråklärares erfarenheter av den egna lektionsplaneringen. Detta område utgör en viktig del av den pedagogiska processen och jag kände att jag under min utbildning på Kungl. Musikhögskolan saknade den biten. Genom fem intervjuer med aktiva stråklärare försökte jag få svar på hur de skapade sina lektionsplaneringar och hur de resonerade detta. De lärare som jag talat med före min studie hade svårt att sätta ord på deras planeringsarbete, vilket gjorde mig nyfiken på att gräva djupare och se om jag genom mer utförliga frågor kunde få svar kring detta.

Hur söker man skönlitteratur på biblioteket? Är de verktyg som finns att tillgå en tillräcklig resurs för låntagare när de söker litteratur på biblioteken? I den kvalitativa intervjustudien framkommer att indexering och katalogisering är verktyg av underordnad roll vid sökning av skönlitteratur. I slutdiskussionen presenteras idéer om hur biblioteken kan använda sig av andra vägar för att presentera läsare med böcker som passar deras behov..
