Archives Day is celebrated in Sweden on the second Saturday of November every year since 1998. The aim of this study is to examine how and why Archives Day is celebrated at five archives in the Stockholm region.My empirical material consists mainly of semi-structured interviews with archivists at five archival institutions in the Stockholm region. I have chosen to only interview archivists and not any visitors due to the time con-straints and the scope of the thesis. I have also examined how the goals stated in a government report are carried out in the work with Archives Day.The theoretical framework of the investigation is gathered from educational theory as well as archival theo-ry. For the educational approach I have used John Dewey?s theory of what makes an experience educational to examine whether Archives Day is an educational experience or not.

This paper is written to take a close look at teaching methods used at the Summer Academy (SHS), which is held at Södertörns Högskola in Stockholm. SHS is a subdivision of the institution of teaching education, which annually, during summertime, offers an eight-day program for pupils between 13-15 years of age, from different schools located in socio-economically disadvantaged suburbs of Stockholm. The intention of SHS is to give the participating pupils an insight into higher education, especially that of university. The purpose of the activities, such as field trips, guided tours and corporate visits, is to make pupils aware of their own responsibility for their educational situation through different methods of knowledge transfer, to diversify the means of the education, and to bring awareness to the array of possibilities which they have access to within the Swedish system of tertiary education.The study is based on six deep-interviews, three with pupils and three with student mentors. Together with 131 surveys from the course given during the summer of 2014, and theories of John Dewey on ?Learning-by-doing?, the results show that pupils participation in SHS give them a better understanding for, and knowledge about their own educational responsibility.Another question this paper seeks to address is how significantly the SHS program is changing the pupil?s experience of education in general and their view upon higher education specifically.

The military conflicts of the early 21st century have seen the introduction and rise of a new military technology: the armed drone. With the United States acting as the driving force behind this technological advancement, the U.S Air Force and intelligence agency CIA have madedrones their weapon of choice for pursuing suspected terrorists and insurgents in various remotelocations. American military leaders and policy makers assert that the armed drone?s high levelof accuracy make it the best available weapons platform for this task. However, new researchshows that the use of drones may result in more civilian casualties than previously thought, andmay in fact be more fallible than conventional aircraft in this respect.

Syftet med denna studie är att belysa och diskutera värdegrundsarbete med skönlitteratur som grund inom svenskämnet. För att visa exempel på hur intressanta ämnen ur ett värdegrundsperspektiv kan lyftas fram till diskussion i klassrummet har vi valt en kvalitativ och innehållsanalytisk metod med hermeneutisk inriktning där vi studerar intriger och händelseförlopp ur J. K Rowlings Harry Potter och De vises sten (2010) samt John Ajvide Lindqvists Låt den rätte komma in (2005). Därefter relateras de utvalda avsnitten ur dessa skönlitterära böcker till värdegrundsformuleringarna i Lpf 94, författare inom skoletik samt genremässiga konventioner inom litteraturfältet. Vi konkretiserar, preciserar och problematiserar också värdegrundsformuleringarna i vår forskningsbakgrund.

Today, many regard the Democratic and the Republican Party in the US to be significantly different than prior with regard to changed rhetoric and changed political world. This reason alone is enough to make an interesting research question how democratic and republican presidents view ?economic freedom? based on Robert Nozick, John Rawls and Isaiah Berlins perception of economic freedom. The research question therefore relies on how present presidents view economic freedom compared to how past presidents view economic freedom with Nozick, Rawls and Berlin as emphasizers within the theory. This is performed with the use of by Marie Demker?s coined the is-should-do-scheme, being an analytical tool providing from the empirical material the first State of the Union speech by the selected president where the presidents view on reality (is), uthopia (should) and strategy (do) is presented.

Abstract:Perennials in public areas have during the latest decades been more and more popular. This group of plants has become a more accepted komponent when creating pleasant public places, and people begin to see the functional aspects. Perennials do also give a colour- and senceexperience in a more detailed way than can be achieved with only trees and shrubs. One of the ojects of this essay is to give more examples of motives for using perennials in urban areas.Having in mind the increasing use of perennials, you can expect a growing need for better understading of how to create successfull perennial plantings. In spite of the increasing interest it is hard to find any written information in this subject.

SYFTE: Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka det eventuella sambandet mellan de utvalda ländernas ränteförändringar och ränteförändringar i Sverige. Vi undersöker även om det går att påvisa om något eller några av ländernas räntor påverkar räntorna i Sverige. Vidare är syftet att ta reda på vilken inverkan de utvalda EMU-länderna har på den svenska räntan. Vi undersöker även hur volatiliteten ser ut för ränteförändringarna i de olika länderna jämfört med ränteförändringarna i Sverige. METOD: Vi har i vår uppsats använt oss av en kvantitativ metod med komparativ design.

Young people of today have a much wider access to information on sex and relationships, and they receive this information from a variety of different sources. This information can sometimes paint a diverse and inconsistent picture. School constitutes one of these sources, and one of the few places were young people can discuss and reflect on these issues together with their peers as well as adults. The purpose of this essay is to gain insight on what adolescents between the age of 15 to 18 think about sex and relationships and their thoughts about sex education in school. It?s a qualitative study based on discussions with adolescents divided in four focus groups, two groups of girls and two groups of boys.

The debate surrounding the opinion polls of the political party Sverigedemokraterna, and later their results in the Swedish election has been evident. The purpose of the study is to investigate how norms of equal treatment in social work practice might be influenced by Sverigedemokraterna's understanding of culture, ethnicity, nationality and religion. The thesis is outlined through the works of Teun van Dijk and Ruth Wodak (2000) regarding racist discourse in politics, Giorel Curran (2004) explaining lesser established parties influence on the broader discourses and Anders Hellström and Tom Nilsson (2010) attempting to ideologically position Sverigedemokraterna. With the method for analyzing policy documents designed by Carol Bacchi (2009) the latest motions from Sverigedemokraterna has been analyzed. Bacchi?s theoretical framework, together with theory concerning the expression of modern racism of John Hodge (1999), Paul Gilroy (1999) and Bennedict Anderson (1996) amongst others has been used to create an understanding of the material.

De senaste decennierna har globaliseringen påverkat företagen i allt större utsträckning eftersom konkurrensen ökat. Detta har tvingat företag att bli mer effektiva för att kunna överleva. Ett sätt att effektivisera är att slimma produktionen och ha en flexibel arbetskraft, så kallad numerisk flexibilitet. I Sverige har privat arbetsförmedling varit tillåten sedan 1993 och sedan dess har bemanningsbranschen haft en expansiv utveckling. Syftet med denna uppsats är att beskriva numerisk flexibilitet, med avseende på inhyrning av personal, utifrån John Atkinsons indelning av personalgrupper.

This thesis uses critical discourse analysis to examine how the English-speaking press in Hong Kong constructs the conflict between the political movement Occupy Central and the Chinese central government. The empirical material consists of ten articles from the region?s two largest English-speaking newspapers, Hong Kong?s oldest newspaper, the South China Morning Post, and China?s only national English-speaking newspaper, the China Daily. Building on the works of Teun van Dijk, Norman Fairclough, Ruth Wodak and John E. Richardson it examines what political ideologies that are favoured by the press and what attitude the press shows for democratic development.

Syftet med denna studie är att studera hemlöshet och kriminalitet utifrån ett livsförloppsperspektiv, samt undersöka hur hemlöshet och kriminalitet förhåller sig till varandra. Ett ytterligare syfte är att se om missbruk har någon förbindelse med hemlöshet, om det möjligtvis kan vara en bidragande faktor till hemlöshet. Robert Sampson och John Laubs åldersrelaterade teori om social kontroll är utgångspunkten för studien. Intervjuer har genomförts med individer som är hemlösa idag eller som varit det vid något tillfälle av sitt liv, dessa analyserades med en kvalitativ analysmetod i fyra steg för att få fram resultat som kunde jämföras med teorin. För att ge en heltäckande bild av hur situationen avseende hemlöshet ser ut i Sverige och i andra delar av världen, redovisas ett antal studier både från Sverige och från andra länder.

Attacken den 11 september 2001 mot USA och World Trade Center blev händelsen som startade hela världens krig mot terrorism. I och med detta har flertalet terrornätverk dykt upp och terrorismen har lämnat få människor opåverkade.Detta arbete syftar till att analysera hur attacken på World Trade Center påverkade händelseförloppet i USA och den militära insatsen. Genom att använda John Wardens teori om luftrumskontroll kommer en jämförande studie mellan hur luftstridskrafterna användes under konflikten i Kosovo år 1999 och under den i Afghanistan för att förklara likheter och skillnader.Studien utgår från en kvalitativ dataanalys av rapporter skrivna i direkt närhet till respektive konflikt.Undersökningens resultat visar på ett väl organiserat och standardiserat sätt att utföra luftstrid på. En tydlighet i taktiken där fokus genomgående, i respektive konflikt, läggs på samma sorts mål. Men även tydliga skillnader mellan konflikterna går att särskåda men det påpekas dock att en direkt kausalitet mellan dessa skillnader och attacken är svår att peka ut.Slutligen förs en diskussion kring hur attacken kan ha påverkat den insats som gjordes i Afghanistan genom en jämförelse mellan båda konflikterna.

Ungdomsbrottsligheten har studerats och diskuterats i en uppsjö av olika sammanhang, medmer eller mindre lyckade resultat. Två teorier, som under de senaste halvseklet har försökthitta svar på detta komplexa problem, står Travis Hirschi och John Braithwaite bakom. Deutvecklade teorin om sociala band (1969) respektive återintegrerande skambeläggning (1989),där framförallt den förstnämnda fått en stor genomslagskraft inom den kriminologiskaforskningen, medan den senare är något mer okänd. Men kan dessa två teorier förklaraungdomsbrottslighet? Genom att formulera en enkätundersökning, som kom att besvaras av82 gymnasietreor, skapades ett kvantitativt material att granska.

Adopting a socio-cultural approach to the study of cold war historiography, this master?s degree essay is a comparative study of the two main disciplinary fields of cold war scholarship, diplomatic history and international relations theory (IR). The study applies the theory of scientific development formulated by Thomas Kuhn and the concept of paradigm on the field of cold war research.Diplomatic history and IR shows many similarities in their development, and in the importance different schools has had in scholarly debate. These different schools are analysed as paradigms, a concept that has been more willingly adopted within IR than in diplomatic history. The transition from what historian John Lewis Gaddis has termed Old Cold War History to New Cold War History is discussed in terms of paradigms and paradigm shift.
