This paper examines how Hinduism and Buddhism are portrayed in three textbooks for an upper secondary school course in religion and is limited to a selection of books published in 2009. Based on a qualitative content analysis, the paper examines the extent to which there is an intentional division, that is to say a line between ?them and us? in the ways in which the religions are described, and to what extent the description of these religions in the textbooks are Eurocentric. The study focuses on whether or not there is a ?them and us? perspective in the different books and if so, the ways in which this approach is evident. The result of this study shows that traces of a ?them and us? perspective can be found in all three books.
Var är göken? Översättning av japansk haiku
The topic of the present paper is to investigate and identify how two translators, Reginald Horace Blyth and David Landis Barnhill, differ in their translation of Japanese haikus by Matsuo Bashô to English. Three focal points of the study are; the translation of haiku rythm, the translation of kireji (a word for separating the haiku) and the translation of kigo (seasonal word). These three components are fundamental parts of Japanese haiku poetry and haiku experience, however there are no set rules on how to translate these haiku components to English. This study contains a comparative detailed analysis of five of Bashô´s haikus, in translation by Blyth and Barnhill. Sample haikus were selected from Blyth´s books A History of Haiku Vol.

During the course of history, the world have come to see powerful nations rise and fall, religions spread and diminish ? and all too often there have been violent struggles between religious groups and secular forces, a fact that we still see in our world today. In the West, we often hear about the violent and fundamental dimensions of Islam. Buddhism is rarely a part of the equation in a western context, regarding violence. A common perception is the picture of Buddhism as a guardian of non-violent principles and values.
Presence of Japanese Encephalitis virus vectors in Can Tho City
Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a significant vector-borne zoonotic pathogen, causing devastating encephalitis in humans. Its geographical range includes a majority of Asian countries and has also been recognized in some western Pacific areas. The main vectors of JEV are mosquitoes belonging to the genus Culex. Birds and pigs function as hosts and virus amplifiers, whereas humans are accidental hosts. Japanese encephalitis is commonly regarded as a rural disease.
Tjugo ansikten - En studie i japansk kriminal- och mysterielitteraturtradition med utgångspunkt i Edogawa Rampos författarskap
The works of crime fiction writer Edogawa Rampo are largely unknown in the West, but have had a considerable impact upon literature and popular culture in his home country of Japan. This thesis is an attempt to explore Rampo?s literary mindset, and more specifically to attempt to picture and describe Rampo?s self-image as an author of crime fiction active during this time period.

Manga! Japanska serier och skaparglädje
This is a study of why Japanese comics, so-called manga, in such a high degree make Swedish readers eager to write and draw comics themselves, and what didactic implications this might have for teachers working in Sweden. To answer this, the author has put together a focus group of Swedish artists influenced by manga, and also used a questionnaire at two Swedish art schools, where young artists are taught how to draw in a manga style. The results show that it is the compelling storytelling and the focus on the characters that enthral readers about Japanese comics, but that it is the seemingly simple style that makes the readers think they themselves can master it. The fact that the interest in both reading and creating manga, almost completely overlap with the so-called period of oppression (between the ages of 11 and 14) when most students lose interest in creating art, is something that could and should be used in the Swedish educational system..
"Botchan" ? en jämförelse av två översättningar till engelska
In this paper two translators of Natsume Soseki's "Botchan" by Matt Treyvaud (2009) and Joel R. Cohn (2005) are compared with each other and with the original. Yoko Hasegawa's "The Routledge Course in Japanese Translation" (2012), Peter Newmark's "A Textbook of Translation" (1988) and "Approaches to Translation (1981) are used as the methodological foundation. Kyoko Omori's paper "Problems in English translations of Japanese literature: A study of Natsume Omori's "Botchan" and "Kokoro" (1996)" was used when choosing which old-fashioned language that lies the closest to that of the original, but fails to convey much of the humour; while Treyvaud's translation conveys the humorous tones of the original but has made frequent mistakes not agreed upon as the correct way of translating into English..

Purpose: The purpose of this essay is partly to create an understanding of the
decision to establish a branch in Japan and especially to look at if and how
the Swedish company in this study has adjusted its corporate culture to suit
the Japanese market.
Method: Data is collected thru a number of semi constructed interviews. A
first telephone interview was followed by an interview made face to face that
was also followed up by interviews performed over telephone. E-mails have been
used to clear and correct collected data.
I have also studied company reports, closely related literature, articles and
papers on the Internet.
Conclusion: My conclusion is that the company in this study based the decision
to open a branch in Japan on the demand from one big customer and the potential
to grow globally.
