This paper attempts to display how five teachers of social studies use and relate to the policy documents and their instructions on gender. To penetrate the subject, five teachers were intreviewed. Each interview focused on how the curriculum attempts to guide teachers regarding gender, sex differences and equality of opportunity. The collected information was processed, analyzed and discussed using gender studies and discourse theory.The results show that the interpretation and usage of the curriculum is very subjective and varies greatly between all the interviewed teachers. Their personal interpretation proves to be crucial when it comes to making reality of the stated goals in the curriculum, concerning actively working towards equality of opportunity between sexes.

In the 1969 Le Thor seminar, Heidegger stated that his philosophical journey could be characterized by three different themes: meaning, truth, place. The first two of these have been the subject of countless studies and discussions, but the question of place is still relatively unexplored in Heidegger?s thought, despite the increased interest for this topic in his writings. Even though scholars like Jeff Malpas, Edward Casey, Stuart Elden and Miguel de Beistegui have written books and essays on the importance of the conception of place in Heidegger?s thinking, there are still many important aspects of this theme to be discussed, given the importance Heidegger himself ascribed to this topic.In this essay, I therefore wish to pose the question of how one can understand the relation between place and the role of tragedy in Heidegger?s conception of truth.

Min studie presenterar en undersökning av en tolkningsprocess vid instuderingen av ett nyskrivet musikverk. Syftet är att beskriva det musikaliska och diskursiva samtal som pågår mellan parterna som deltar i denna process. Studien baseras på en dokumentation av mitt eget arbete och en kvalitativ analys av detta material. Som ett genomgående metodiskt grepp vid studiet av materialet har jag använt H.-G. Gadamers dialektiska hermeneutik som tolkningsmodell.

Våra städer är i ständig förändring. Material slits, växter och träd åldras eller dör, stilideal och behov skiftar med tiden. Landskapsarkitekten ställs ofta inför uppdraget att omgestalta platser för att förnya eller anpassa dem i enlighet med nya krav och önskemål. I äldre miljöer handlar det ofta om att gestalta med hänsyn till platsens historia. I detta kandidatarbete presenteras ett redan utfört omgestaltningsarbete för innergården Linné, som är en historisk miljö i Uppsalas stadskärna.

Rapid urbanisation is putting strains on both the landscape and the city dwellers and the pressure on planning for sustainable and equitable cities is crucial. As many cities in Sub-Saharan Africa are expanding, city planning has trouble keeping up to meet the needs of the growing amount of urban dwellers. Many cities have also been planned with the cars in focus and the needs and comfort of the pedestrians have been overlooked. The capacity of institutions is limited due to centralized government and bureaucracy, as well as corruption. Planning is erratically implemented and it is difficult to know what will happen.

Ett syfte med studien är att introducera en metod för komparativ kulturarvsanalys. Metoden skall kunna användas för att analysera hur kulturarvsvärden värderas och hur de används i interpretation och presentation. Metoden som prövas skall uppfylla studiens övriga tre syften: att genom en nulägesanalys studera hur de olika kulturarvsvärdena i och kring Kinda kanal uppfattas, värderas, vårdas och visas, för att mot denna bakgrund jämföra liknande områden nationellt och internationellt och finna konstruktiva uppslag till framtida utvecklingsplaner och möjligheter för upplevelseområdet Kinda kanal..

Place as a concept, and memory as a phenomenon is researched through literature studies. The essay investigates how we think about place and how we experience and relate to it. Memory is discussed both as personal memory and collective memory. Place is a strong source of memory. When we return to a place, we recognize not only the place itself, but also the things we did there, the people we met and the thoughts passing through our mind when we last were there. Pieces of ourselves are stored in the memories awaken when we revisit a place.

Denna studie har som syfte att synliggöra, beskriva och reflektera kring de faktorer som konstituerar fenomenet interpretationsprocess. För att spegla fenomenet från två håll genomförs två interpretationer av en grafiskt noterad solosång, och för att kunna kvalitetsbeskriva förloppen i denna praktikbaserade studie, används en metod där interpreten pendlar mellan rollen som praktiker och forskare, och reflekterar i och över handling.        I förhållande till text och notation har den ena interpretationsprocessen sin utgångspunkt i sångarens livsvärld samt dennes tolkning av några symboler, medan den andra tar sin utgångspunkt i sångarens upplevelse av några bilmekanikers livsvärldar, samt deras tolkningar av samma symboler. Som metodisk grund används fenomenologin, vars två grundläggande teser är: en vändning mot sakerna, samt en följsamhet mot sakerna. Det som undersöks är interpretens erfarenheter och det sätt på vilket fenomenet interpretationsprocess framträder, och både verbala samt klingande exempel på denna levda och upplevda erfarenhet redovisas. Resultatet jämförs även med tidigare forskning inom liknande områden.        Resultatet visar att några av de centrala faktorer som konstituerar de båda interpretations-processerna är textanalysens (i vid bemärkelse) betydelse, närvaron av publikframförande- och kommunikationstanken, växlingen mellan praktik och reflektion, samt det egna skapandets omfattning och karaktär.

My thesis is an attempt to clarify the purpose and workings of art in relation to the artist, his/her fellows and society. Can art be considered as a uniting force? If so, where does its unifying quality lie? How does art connect with the individual, the community and society? My interpretation of the political climate regarding the arts has resulted in an exploration of the question: What role does art have in society today?The artistic ego as an altruism ? within the title of this thesis lies an absolute paradox ? a paradox that through this paper is tested, reviewed and demonstrated as a way of describing art and its workings. Article 4.1(h) in the Rome I regulation establishes which law that will be applicable on contracts concerning financial instruments concluded in multilateral systems. The main problem is that most contracts concluded within these systems have standard clauses which contain a clause on the applicable law. If this is the case, Article 3.1 in the Rome I Regulation is applicable instead. This problem makes it difficult to find a need for article 4.1(h) if it will only be applicable in exceptional cases. However, the legal position on this matter is still unclear since the Rome I Regulation has just been put into force.

This thesis examines Swedish filmmakers' modes of work and production within the Swedish film landscape. An introductory historical overview treats the Swedish regionalization since the mid 1990's. Political and economical aspects of producing films in various regions serve as a background for understanding the new generation of decentralised Swedish filmmaking, and the use of sound and music in contemporary film. The analysis consists of empirical studies; interviews with directors and producers, working with music for film and TV. Although the filmmaking perspective is in focus, composers and film scholars are heard as well.

How do men who define themselves as feminists create and maintain an identity as men? In this qualitative study four men involved in feminist organizations were interviewed about their views on women, men, sex and feminism. Theories of language, psychoanalysis and ethics were utilized to further our understanding of the material these men produce in their effort to define themselves. Our object of study is the text, which we believe holds the key to understanding how an individual shapes his world and himself. The result is our interpretation of the text and its underlying mechanics.

The goal in doing this study has been studying public interpretations of media content in the commercials that this study uses. The analysis was based on two TV commercials for feminine hygiene products. Initially, they seemed to differ from each other, but soon the question whether or not they in fact did convey the same underlying message was raised. The theoretical premises on which the study was founded on are the gender perspective in advertising and the social construction of gender. To reveal the hidden signs appearing in these commercials and to find out their meanings, we used the method of semiotic analysis.

As birch is one of the most common trees in Sweden, and probably one of the easiest for someone who lives here to identify, it is interesting to note that most people do not know how variable the genus is and how widely it is distributed across the northern hemisphere. One can find birch growing at both high and low elevations, demanding different soil conditions and preferring varying amounts of sunlight. Many people may also be surprised to hear that the colour of the bark can vary from bight white to almost black, and different shades of pink, orange and red can also be displayed. This, together with the astonishing beauty of the genus, the important role as a pioneer in many ecological systems and the difficulty in sorting out the taxonomy of the genus, constitutes the background of this thesis. The thesis is written at the Department of Landscape Development in Alnarp, Sweden with Kenneth Lorentzon, researcher at the Swedish University of Agriculture as a supervisor. The aim of this thesis is to highlight which species and cultivars within the genus Betula could be appropriate for horticultural use in Sweden.

This project in an in depth exploration about the basics of creating space in the form of an experimental investigation using my own perceptions as reference. Within a method, especially outlined for the project using descriptive words of opposites, my interpretation of the words has been formed into models of rooms. Four workshops with restrictions and rules acted as a platform for the striving towards the aim of a wider understanding of how space can be experienced. Through analysis I have formulated the different parameters influencing space itself and my perceptions of it. During the project a language for visualizing the interpretations of a room has been further evolved.
