Diabetes mellitus is a rising epidemic throughout the world and there is currently great interest in quantifying the beta-cell mass (BCM) in vivo non-invasively. In the present experiment, the feasibility of in vivo imaging of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) in beta-cells was examined, using the positron emission tomography (PET) tracer [68Ga]Ga-DO3A-VS-Cys40-exendin-4 as a marker, in native pancreatic beta-cells of a porcine diabetic animal model and healthy controls. Eight Swedish high-health domestic pigs were randomly assigned to be either controls or made diabetic using streptozotocin (STZ). The experiment proceeded during eight weeks, starting with an acclimatisation period. Once the pigs had been socialised they underwent surgery for the insertion of a jugular vein catheter, allowing induction of diabetes with STZ, intravenous (i.v.) injections and stress-free blood sampling. Development of diabetes was confirmed by clinical examinations, blood glucose values and insulin-staining of pancreatic sections post mortem. The diabetic pigs were insulin treated and responded well.

Under denna kritiska process sker identitetsutveckling och strävan efter att vara oberoende föräldrar ökar. År 2013 rapporterades att cirka 50000 personer i Sverige har typ 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) och statistik pekar på en ständig ökning av sjukdomen. T1DM är en ämnesomsättningssjukdom som kännetecknas av brist på hormonet insulin. Sjukdomen behandlas med insulin, kost och motion och kräver dessutom regelbundenhet och daglig egenvård.

Oilseed rape crops are an important in southern Sweden because of the high intensity of wheat growing. Pollen beetles are the most important pest in oilseed rape and causes often economic losses. Therefore it?s of great importance that we can control the population density, e g by using insecticides if necessary, to avoid mayor yield losses. In year 2000 pollen beetles were numerous in the province of Östergötland. The farmers sprayed with insecticides several times, but with low effects on the beetles. Field trials and laboratory experiments showed that pollen beetles had developed resistance against pyrethroids.

The austenitic stainless steel 316L has been compared to duplex stainless steels to be able to highlight a choice of material for manufacturing of spare tanks used for cooling water at nuclear power stations on the Swedish west coast. In this report 316L and the duplex stainless steels 2205, 2304 and LDX 2404 have been compared according to corrosion resistance, strength, manufacturing aspects and prices. The steels arranged by increasing corrosion resistance: 316L < 2304 < LDX 2404 < 2205. The steels arranged by increasing strength (considering the thickness of the plates needed for construction): 316L < 2304 < LDX 2404 and 2205. The steels arranged by increasing price/tank: 2304 < LDX 2404 < 2205 < 316L.

Introduction: Elderly people have much to gain when it comes to physical activity andresistance training. Ageing is a process that every human being has to go through. The mostimportant physical attributes changes, when it comes to handle everyday life and ailment thatusually occurs in the later stages of life. Physical activity and resistance training may help thecommon problem among the elderly, when it comes to cope with issues of pain and strenuouseveryday life that occurs under this ailment. Objective: To identify a senior citizen´sperception about physical activity and attitudes about resistance training.

Hästar riskerar att drabbas av endotoxinemi framförallt vid olika typer av kolik men även vid andra sjukdomstillstånd. Stressen och inflammationen som uppstår vid endotoxinemi, liksom vid vissa andra typer av akuta skador eller allvarliga sjukdomstillstånd, kan leda till utvecklandet av insulinresistens, glukosintolerans och hyperglykemi. Dessa metaboliska rubbningar är i sig skadliga och inom humanvården behandlas intensivvårdspatienter vid behov med insulin för att förbättra tillfrisknande och överlevnad.För att inhämta mer kunskap om de metaboliska rubbningarna, som sker hos hästar med endotoxinemi gjorde vi en prospektiv experimentell försöksstudie av hästar som infunderades med endotoxin och provtogs för analys av serumglukos och plasmainsulin. De 8 hästarna som användes i försöket infunderades med Escherichia coli endotoxin (SigmaAlderich L5418, O55:B5) i en total dos på 500 ng/kg kroppsvikt under 6 timmar. Provtagning och analys av glukos och insulin skedde från och med ett dygn innan endotoxininfusionen och upp till 36 timmar efter dess start.

Att leva med diabetes kan vara krångligt då det hela tiden krävs planering av aktiviteter, måltider och medicinering. Sjukdomen behandlas framförallt med insulin som kan förekomma i pump, sprutor och injektionspennor. Det vanligaste sättet att injicera insulin är med pennor, och antalet pennanvändare ökar årligen. Insulin har stränga förvaringskrav och är känsligt mot hög värme, starkt ljus, skakningar och frysning. De personer som lever i länder där temperaturen över- eller understiger säkert förvarings-intervall har ett behov av att skydda sin medicin, men också resande till utsatta platser drabbas.

Glukosmetabolism är ett viktigt område inom djursjukvården. För att diagnosticera olika sjukdomstillstånd relaterade till glukosmetabolismen kan man mäta glukos-, insulin- eller fruktosaminkoncentrationen i blodet. Koncentrationen av dessa parametrar påverkas av olika fysiologiska faktorer. Faktorer som ökar glukoskoncentrationerna i blodet hos både hundar och katter är stress och kolhydratinnehållande måltid. Valpar har högre blodglukoskoncentration än vuxna hundar, medan gamla hundar har högre insulinkoncentration i blodet än yngre hundar. Hundens kön påverkar varken glukos- eller insulinkoncentrationen. Fruktosamin speglar den medelkoncentration av glukos som djuret haft i blodet de senaste 1-3 veckorna.

This thesis examines the everyday resistance, and its interaction with cultural hybridity, of the Saami population in the administrative unit of Torne lappmark during the period 1639?1732. To do this, the thesis uses theoretical concept of everday resistance as it has been described by JamesC. Scott and the theories of cultural hybridity as they have been described by Peter Burke. Primary source material used in this thesis consists of the court records from Torne lappmark, specifically from the courts at Jukkasjärvi and Enontekis.The results of this thesis present a picture of the everyday resistance in early modern Torne lappmark.

Introduktion/Bakgrund: Typ 1-diabetes är en kronisk autoimmun sjukdom som innebär att kroppen slutat tillverka insulin. För att förhindra komplikationer krävs tillförsel av insulin varje dag. Sjukdomen innebär förändringar i livsstilen och det kan vara påfrestande för hela familjen. För att få bättre förståelse krävs kunskap om familjers erfarenheter och vad sjuksköterskan kan göra för att underlätta deras vardag. Syfte: Belysa familjers erfarenheter av att leva med ett barn som har diagnosen typ 1-diabetes.

The female dog has a unique reproductive endocrinology, with high levels of progesterone throughout the 70-day long luteal phase. In this project, markers of glucose metabolism were studied and compared from the aspects of breed group and time in oestral cycle. The parameters studied were: glucose, insulin, progesterone, fructosamine and the newly introduced analysis of HbA1c. Hba1c was also further evaluated and discussed as a diagnostic tool in canine medicine.No differences in terms of glucose markers were found between a group of purebreed dogs of various breeds compared to a group of dogs with high risk of dioestrus diabetes, namely the Norwegian and Swedish elkhounds.No differences were found between the two sample occasions, anoestrus and dioestrus, concluding that there is no need for relating test results to the time of the oestrous cycle in middle-aged intact female dogs.There were statistically significant higher values of all glucose markers in diabetic dogs than in non-diabetic dogs. When it came to HbA1c, however, there was a larger overlap between the two groups, compared to fructosamine.

This report is a study in voltagelevel in connection with regeneration of brake energy from the tramtype M31 in Gothenburg.In the act of braking, the tram M31 uses electrical braking where the electrical motors generates energy and if possible send it back to the overheadline, where other trams in the nearby can use this regenerated energy for its own driving force. In cases where no other energyconsumers are located in the same section, there is a resistance witch task is to convert this energy into heat. The regulation of this resistance appears to cause an increase in the voltagelevel into far too high levels.Investigations of the trams regulationequipment and its construction have been done. Further have measurements on the overheadline been performed in order to map the voltagevariations during a longer period of time.The result have been showing that the voltagelevel during regeneration often is as high as 880V-920V, more extreme values have not been observed in a large scale. The values are especially high compared to the nominal voltagelevel.

Future emission legislation puts great emphasis on increasing the efficiency of the engine, thereby reducing fuel consumption. The tribological contact between cylinder liner and piston ring is where an great amount of energy is lost due to friction, and by reducing these losses an reduction in fuel consumption can be achieved.The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the tested piston ring coatings against a plasma sprayed cylinder liner and rank these combinations of materials for friction and wear resistance. The coatings that were tested was Cr + Al2O3, (Al,Cr)N, two types of CrN and WC / C.The experimental tests were performed with a so-called pin-plate, where used oil with addition of an acidic mixture of sulfuric and nitric acid to mimic the acidic condensate formed when exhausts recirculate, were added with a continuous flow. The results were then analyzed by weighing, studies by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and profile measurements.The results from each material combination were that the plasma coated cylinder liner wears too aggressively in order to yield a ranking of the piston ring coatings based on the parameters of friction and wear resistance. It is therefore proposed that an alternative coating on the cylinder liner should be developed, lacking the large abrasive wear on piston rings and that can withstand the corrosive environment resulting in engines equipped with EGR.
