The purpose of this Masters thesis is to examine the discourses of concepts related to diversity and ethnicity in Swedish cultural policy. It focuses on how the society is presented in different contexts and how people with a different ethnic origin than the majority, are represented in the cultural policy of the Swedish State. The study is restricted to concern immigrants. Six governmental cultural policy documents, reaching over a time period of eight years 1995-2003 are examined as follows: Which key terms are used in the presentations? Which contexts and discourses can be distinguished? Have the discourses changed over the time period examined, and if so, how? The theoretical starting point in the thesis is the discourse perspective of Laclau and Mouffe.

This essay aims to map the ideas behind the Swedish cultural reform called Kultursamverkansmodellen, and how the ideas are forming a discourse. Furthermore it examines the social praxis on the three levels that constitutes the model. The three levels are the state, the region and culture creators/civil society. This is a qualitative study based on primary and secondary sources collected on the three levels. The theoretical frame of reference is based on institutional theory, on Michel Foucault?s lecture on The Discourse of Language, and on New Public Management.

Det här arbetet har haft som syfte att ta reda på vilka uppfattningar eleverna på en Komvuxskola har om integralkalkyl. I undersökningen medverkade 28 elever och fyra av dem blev intervjuade. Jag använde mig av ett skriftligt test och kvalitativa ostrukturerade intervjuer som undersökningsmetoder. Studiens resultat visade att endast några elever tolkade begreppen primitiv funktion samt integral som ett objekt och utvecklade relationell förståelse. De andra eleverna som på det skriftliga testet kunde tillämpa reglerna för att bestämma primitiva funktioner och för att beräkna integraler, uppfattade begreppen som en process och utvecklade instrumentell förståelse.

This master thesis was written in the purpose to study how the location and access to computers in the physical realm of the public library reflects the undergoing changes in the public libraries role in Swedish society. This study is done in a form of a case study of three small public libraries. All of them were in the process of transforming both their physical and virtual space. The thesis focuses on where in the library the computers are placed and how their location interacts with the libraries main tasks. It also focuses on the analysis of the relationship between these two elements and how that relationship reflects the alteration of the public libraries place in society.

Early Swedish films from the 1910?s and 1920?s are not only an important part of Sweden?s cultural heritage, but also an important part of the international film heritage. This period is often refereed to as the golden age of Swedish film history. Despite this fact, the possibility to watch Swedish films from this period is very small and the main purpose of this thesis is to examine why the availability of these films has such low priority in the Swedish film policy and at the Swedish Film Institute. With the use of policy analysis, I study governmental policies and policies from the Swedish Film Institute for early Swedish films and seek to identify the policy problem and its different parts.

Detta examensarbete är en intervjustudie om danslärare och klasslärares tankar och åsikter om vad dansen ska ha för plats i skolan. Uppsatsen behandlar även frågan hur ett samarbete mellan klasslärare och danslärare kan se ut. Studien bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med danslärare och klasslärare som har erfarenhet av dans i skola. Litteraturen förtydligar hur dans kan användas som konstform och/eller metod för att nå mål i andra ämnen. Den förtydligar även hur eleven genom att dramatisera, förvandla och överdriva och framhäva det typiska tolkar sina upplevelser.

Denna studie syftar till att undersöka gymnasieelevers attityder till huruvida grammatikkunskaper är nödvändigt för att lära sig engelska. Studien baseras på intervjuer med 18 elever som alla läser den obligatoriska kursen Engelska 5. Med utgångspunkt i motivationsteorier har studien vidare analyserat förhållandet mellan elevers attityd till grammatikens nödvändighet och deras motivation att lära sig engelska.Resultatet visar att eleverna anser att grammatik är nödvändigt för att lära sig engelska. Generellt visar resultatet även på en negativ attityd till grammatikmomentet.  Möjligtvis kan denna attityd förklaras genom den motivation eleverna uppvisar för att lära sig engelska. Här har det visat sig att elever med en så kallad instrumentell motivation, det vill säga att man lär sig för ha nytta av det i framtiden, i större utsträckning har en negativ attityd.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine the use of the concept cultural heritage in Swedish governmental cultural policy. Ten official reports, reaching over a time period of seven years (1997-2004) are examined in the following way: What is cultural heritage? What functions/ values does the cultural heritage have? Whose heritage is a cultural heritage? With some simplification you can say that there are two different views on cultural heritage in the documents. The most common way to refer to cultural heritage is a category of chosen historical objects whose preservation is motivated by their function as sources of information and knowledge about the history and development of the Swedish society.

I denna uppsats utreds om det otydligt definierade begreppet mångfald kan överföras från visioner i kulturpolitiska dokument till handling i Malmös kultursektor. Som förklaringsmodell används Nils Brunssons teori om organisatoriskt hyckleri. Uppsatsen är uppdelad i två delar, varav den första behandlar hur det talas om mångfald i några styrande kulturpolitiska dokument medan den andra behandlar mångfaldsbegreppets överförande till handling.I del ett konstateras, med hjälp av en textanalys som har sin utgångspunkt i tidigare kulturpolitisk forskning, att begreppet mångfald förekommer i två sammanhang: i den första betonas kulturell artrikedom och i den andra identitetspolitisk grupptillhörighet, främst etnisk sådan. I del två undersöks arbetet med mångfald i Malmös kultursektor med hjälp av en analys av samtalsintervjuer.Slutligen konstateras att begreppet mångfald, under förutsättning att definitionen kommer inifrån verksamheten, kan överföras från prat till handling..

Syftet med studien var att kartlägga svenska förlossningsklinikers PM angående urinretention postpartum, samt att studera om dessa överensstämmer med de rekommendationer som återfinns i litteraturen. Chefsbarnmorskan/avdelningschefen på alla svenska förlossningskliniker tillfrågades via e-post och telefon om de kunde skicka in sina PM angående urinretention postpartum. De insamlade dokumenten bearbetades genom kvalitativ och kvantitativ innehållsanalys. De flesta PM förespråkar att bedömning om urinretention föreligger ska ske inom fyra timmar postpartum. I hälften av förlossningsklinikernas PM anges både tappningskateter och ultraljud/bladderscan som diagnosmetod.

The subject this thesis will investigate concerns the matter of how political ideologies exist within public libraries with a focus on the democratic ideal. Public libraries are part of the political system and we want to show how political ideologies take their shape in public libraries and the possible consequences of this. With the help of three major political ideologies, liberalism, conservatism and socialism we investigate how the democratic ideals of these ideologies are expressed in documents that describes activities the libraries will and have performed. In order to identify these ideologies we use discourses in cultural policy as a bridge between the investigated documents and the political ideologies. As an analytical tool we have developed a model that describes the relation between text, discourse and ideology which we use in our analysis.

How can you do a right measurement of culture as well as with other social sectors and with what can culture contribute when it comes to a town´s development? We found out that in Linköping the regional federation Ostsam recently (2005) started mapping the region's creative centers in order to look into the spreading of the culture in the county, and then use the uniqueness of the culture as an advantage in society- planning contexts. The reason was that both municipal - and State directions detected that the culture has a broader importance when it comes to building up society and infrastructure than earlier considered. This is called Cultural planning and is the foundation- method that Östsam used when working with their new projekt The creative sector. The outcome of the Östsam study resulted in an exciting study basis to work further on with and to examine through own demarcations and directions.This research manages the matter of the creative sector as an extension to the cultural sector.

This is a case study of Carlstad Comic Con 2011 and 2012.The purpose is to study the event in relation to a project management and a local culture policy perspective. This in order to analyze the organization of a popular culture event and see how such a local event may benefit Karlstad as a city. Besides studying the organization of Carlstad Comic Con and its outcomes I am sketching a short cultural history of popular culture media and its context within recent year?s globalization.The study shows that the events have had a great beneficial impact on the local industry; lacking any negative sides, and have put Karlstad in an international context which goes directly in line with the standard guidelines for project management of region culture policy. Concerning how to organize the event the organizers have not followed a strict project structure.

This survey examines how a regional archive, Värmland Archives, interprets and works from the departure point of national cultural accessibility goal ?Everyone should have the opportunity to participate in cultural life?. And it is also a comporative study of discourse regarding accessibility between Värmland Archives and some other actors in the archival cultural system. Critical discourse analysis, according to Norman Fairclough, is used as a theory method. A discourse analysis is made on empirical data based on document study and qualitative research interviews. My conclusion is that if the term Accessibility is seen as a focal point the accessibility discourse in the documents of Värmland Archives and of the other actors studied can not be clearly discerned. Värmland Archives´s interpretation of terms regarding accessibility analyzed in the survey, varies among the staff regarding how the archives and its services should be accessible, and what accessibility means in the context of the archives.
