The Irish immigrants have been an important part of London throughout the centuries. Their presence can be found from the 17th century and onwards. Initially occupied as seasonal workers in agrarian fields the Irish later found alternative ways of supporting themselves as the Industrial Revolution transformed the whole of England. Despite their vital importance to the construction of what was to be known as "the modern Babylon" the Irish have been victims of both social prejudice and maltreatment. Some historians have imposed a comparison between the Irish in England and the African slaves in the United States.

When a car owner want to lock or unlock his or her car today, it?s preferable done by using aremote control. The system is really comfortable when the car owner is using the remote.A problem arises if a thief gets the remote.The thief doesn?t have to know where the car is parked, an approximate estimation where thecar is parked is enough.For instance, it?s enough to know which car park the car is parked in. If the thief knows that,he/she can repeatedly activate the remote control while looking for a car indicating with lightsand sounds.Because of the fact that a car usually indicates that it has been unlocked by making a shortsound indication, there will be no problem finding the car.The purpose with this project is to make a prototype which makes it harder for a thief to findthe car.

Bioenergy from the forest has been heavily debated in Sweden for several decades due to the interest of society to decrease dependence upon fossil fuels and limit the effects of climate change. The actual use of bioenergy from the forest has shifted over the years but increased during the last decades. Private actors within forest and nature conservation sectors play an important role for the development of bioenergy from the forest as well as for the debate and the implementation of political goals. Forestry in Sweden is characterised by ?freedom under responsibility? for private actors and the perspective of governance is valuable for studying actors and discourses.

Utmärkande för Uppsalas arkitektur är domkyrkan och slottet. En känslighet för den så kallade Uppsalasilhuetten (domkyrkan och slottet sedda på avstånd) som länge har präglat stadens stadsplanering och är ett av flera skäl till att antalet byggnader högre än 5?6 våningar anses vara lågt. På västra sidan av Fyrisån finns ytterligare en del arkitektoniska sevärdheter, bl.a. Gustavianum och Carolina Rediviva, som även dessa ingår i denna kulturella och historiska nod av landmärken.   Uppsalas nya konstmuseum i hamnesplanadområdet ska i bästa av fallen kunna ingå i denna knut av attraktioner.

En hel del tidigare forskning tyder på att ha en balans mellan arbetsliv och privatliv är viktigt för att uppleva ett psykiskt välmående samt för att kunna prestera bra på arbetsplatsen. Då verkstadschefer på ett industriföretag genomgår ett stort förändringsarbete undersöktes hur fem manliga chefer upplevde sin balans mellan privatliv och arbetsliv. Delsyften med studien var att undersöka hur chefens roll i privatlivet påverkade balansen, i vilken grad stöd hemifrån påverkade balansen samt vilka konsekvenser en balans eller konflikt skulle kunna få. Studien genomfördes kvalitativt, med en semistrukturerad intervjuguide, där samtliga respondenter var påverkade av förändringsarbetet. Resultatet visade att det fanns verkstadschefer som upplevde en konflikt mellan arbetsliv och privatliv men även de som upplevde en balans.

Words like pirates and anti-pirates are becoming common features in the cultural political debate of today, and the file-sharing phenomenon has become a more and more delicate and disputed subject. The fact that people are organizing in networks to swap computerfiles with each other has, among other things, led film and music companies from all over the world to initiate a number of anti-piracy organizations, assigned to protect the right to culture and information. The industrial organization Antipiratbyrån (the Anti-pirate Bureau) and the network Piratbyrån (the Pirate Bureau) have on several occasions been used to represent the prevailing conflict in Sweden. The purpose of this study is to apply a sociological perspective to the collective act of file sharing. Additionally, the purpose is to argue that the activity can be understood as a social movement, although it is rarely referred to as such.

Jag har ritat en skola i Mariehäll. Konceptet för skolan baserar sig på att skolans program delas upp och får rymmas i fyra volymer. Då volymerna förskjuts i relation till varandra skapas mellanrum där skolans kommunikationer sker. Det har varit viktigt att skapa välfungerande och tydliga flöden.Programmet som fördelas i de fyra huskropparna kan grovt delas upp i kategorier. En kategori innehåller utrymmen för personal, administration och lokalvård, en annan ett kulturcentrum och skolrestaurang och en tredje skolbarnens hemvist.

I Sveriges storstadsregioner har behovet av mer strategiskt utformade planer växt fram under senare år. I korthet beror detta på kommunens begränsande möjligheter att påverka bebyggelseutvecklingen. Samtidigt har kommunerna fortfarande ett ansvar för att bebyggelseutvecklingen leds mot en social, ekonomisk och ekologisk hållbarhet. Behovet av att koncentrera de kommunala insatserna har då ökat. Kommunens roll blir att tillhandahålla hållbara rumsliga ramar där förändringar på kvartersnivå sker i privat regi.

Forestry is increasing on an industrial scale where collection of logging residues takes a greater part. This has resulted in more machinery and heavy machinery driving in the clear felled area, this increases the risk of soil damage that will occur in the form of soil compacting and rutting in the clearings. This affecting on the nature in a negative way and especially in rivers and lakes that are affected by siltation and acidification leading to increased levels of heavy metals and methyl mercury. The purpose of this study was to investigate why there is damage to the ground when working with the slash in forest management from the forest officer point of view. A self-designed questionnaire was used and 45 questionnaires were sent out to various companies all over Sweden.

I och med 1902 års lag angående vanartade och i sedligt avseende försummade barn blev det lättare för myndigheterna att påverka ett barns uppväxt. I Nyköping bildades barnavårdsnämnden, som hade denna lag som rättesnöre, år 1907. Barnavårdsnämnden innehade en stor makt då de kunde påverka ett barns liv. Under åren 1907 till 1916 anmäldes 40 barn till barnavårdsnämnden i Nyköping. Dessa barn ansågs avvika från normen om en ideal barndom.

This paper is finishing part of the two-year master programme in Industrial Engineering and Management.Initially there was an inquiry of studying the queue-times that Fläkt Woods uses when they break down internal working orders. These times were assumed to be too generalised and does not apply to the actual value of the queue-times which generates incorrect data and delivery delays. During the work of this paper it has been established that it is not the queue-times that is the biggest problem. The problem is the shop floor control and the lack of manufacturing the right products at the right time. Therefore an analysis of the production planning process was made to bring forward the real problems.

The level of cadmium (Cd) in Swedish arable land has increased during the last century and the average concentration of Cd in the plough layer is today 0.23 mg/kg. The increase is mainly due to anthropogenic activities such as phosphorus fertilizing, liming, import of feed, and atmospheric deposition from industrial emissions. Cadmium in the soil will be taken up by crops and is thereby transferred to humans via food. Carrot is one of the crops of concern, both because it may contain quite high Cd concentrations and due to the large consumption in Sweden. In the body, Cd is stored mainly in the liver and the kidneys and may cause several diseases already at low concentrations.

This critical examination of the concept of cultural heritage is based on an overall phenomenological approach, with focus on Alfred Schütz?s further development of Edmund Husserl?s idea of the lifeworld. With strong emphasis on the subjective and intersubjective dimensions, the concept of cultural heritage is contextualized, analysed and criticized from different aspects for the purpose of enriching the discourse of cultural heritage.A literature based methodology is used, including a hermeneutic analysis of theoretical texts in the field of cultural heritage studies and the new Swedish Culture Environmental Law (?Kulturmiljölagen?) and related bills. Qualitative interviews deal with people?s notions about the concepts of culture, cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage.

På senare tid har företag i allt större utsträckning börjat mäta processprestationer istället för att enbart styras efter ekonomiska termer. Att lägga resurser på ständiga förbättringar istället för ?brandsläckning? har samtidigt blivit mer vanligt. Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB (SIT AB) i Finspång har arbetat med förbättrings¬konceptet Sex Sigma en längre tid och har som ett led i detta kommit långt i arbetet med processorientering. På serviceavdelningen har man börjat intressera sig för statistisk processtyrning (SPS) som ett sätt att koppla ihop processernas prestation med förbättringsarbetet.

I detta arbete undersöks möjligheterna att använda mikroalger som råvara för produktion av biogas, både genom en litteraturstudie och genom en förstudie för hur en pilotanläggning för hållbar odling av mikroalger för biogasproduktion skulle kunna initieras. Utgångspunkten är hållbarhet, vilket innebär att odlingen av mikroalgerna baseras på befintliga, outnyttjade samhällsflöden. Avloppsvatten och koldioxidutsläpp är exempel på flöden som kan orsaka negativ miljöpåverkan i form av klimatförändringar, övergödning och försurning. Om dessa resurser istället får utgöra närings- och kolkällor vid odling av mikroalger för produktion av biogas utnyttjas dessa resurser istället till att generera hållbart producerad energi. När biogasen ersätter fossila bränslen ökar miljövinsten ytterligare.
