This thesis examines the relationship between the marginalization of ornamentation during functionalist modernism and the effect it had on female graphic design practice. By examining the historiography from a gender and feminist theory of history I present a different way of interpreting, not only the history of graphic design but also the concept of graphic design. This thesis does not reach a conclusive result, instead it sets the foundation for further research and illustrates the opportunities that we as graphic designers have to benefit contemporary graphic design by critically reviewing and redefining our history through a diverse historiography..

I detta examensarbete har en webbplats skapats för Falu Tank AB med hjälp av Jennifer Flemings utvecklingsmodell, även framtagning av en logotyp och grafisk profil med tillhörande manual har ingått i examensarbetet. Falu Tank AB utför nytillverkning, rekonditionering samt kontroll av petroleumtankar. De erbjuder också oljeavskiljare, pumpöar och dubbelmantlade tankar. Arbetet har bestått av en bakgrundsundersökning på Falu Tank AB, samt litteraturstudier i webbdesign och grafisk profilering, med en teoretisk fördjupning inom webbdesign. Bra webbdesign innebär i första hand att sidan är välstrukturerad, enhetlig, lättnavigerad, användarvänlig och att den har en bra harmoni.

This master thesis is a result of the work carried out for Research Electronics at Siljansnäs. The company develops customized electronical systems. Because of the rapidly increasing interest in colour displays there has been a desire within the company to represent information from sensors and electrical systems in a more advanced way.Due to the mentioned reason above we were given the assignment to solve how a colour display using the STN technique works. The technique is used by small displays, the size of QVGA. Our ambition of this diploma work is to develop a fully functionally test prototype to evaluate the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and the LCD controller.

The purpose of this Master Thesis is to analyze what suitable hardware platforms there are on the market in order to build a low price control and information system for mobile applications, called small display module. The thesis will be underlying material for making a decision for further development. The result of the thesis consists mainly of a Windows CE kernel and a schematic for a CPU card, on which it would be suitable to build the display module. Another major part of the report is the introduction of different techniques that could be of interest when designing a processor based system. The processor architecture that was chosen is the x86.

Nimo Verken AB is the leading producer in the Scandinavia of drying cabinets. The construction has, with small changes, been the same since the 70s with a thermostat and a timer as controlling system. There was a wish to develop a modern cabinet which showed remaining time on a display and with energy saving functions.In this report we go through how it is possible to implement a digital controlling system, where remaining time is shown on a display and where it is possible to choose a preset ?program?.The report first presents the fundamental theory for a PIC, where we describe the different registers, how interrupts are handled, the internal clock function and how data is sent to control the different parts of the construction.Next the report presents and describes the new hardware that is needed, such as the encoder, the temperature sensor and the display.After the theory we describe how the program in the PIC may be drafted. Människan inhämtar och bearbetar information via sina sinnen för att skapa en bild av omvärlden. Mängden information som människan kan bearbeta är begränsad, speciellt i komplexa miljöer där flera uppgifter ska utföras. Fokus för denna studie är att reducera piloters kognitiva belastning för att underlätta i svåra flygsituationer. Ett stort problem idag är att när en pilot förlorar yttre visuella referenser så kan spatial desorientering uppstå. Ett resultat av det kan vara att helikoptern börjar driva utan att piloten märker något.

Användare har idag höga krav på webbplatser eftersom det har blivit allt vanligaremed företag som väljer att kommunicera över internet. Användare blir otåliga efter 5-10 sekunder och det är därför viktigt att på ett effektivt sätt tillfredsställa användarnasbehov. Det räcker inte med att informationen finns på webbplatsen, utan den måstepresenteras på ett effektivt och tilltalande sätt, annars lämnar användaren webbplatsenoch går vidare till konkurrenten.Denna studie syftar till att skapa kunskap för olika aspekter inom grafisk design ochanvändbarhet för att sedan skapa förståelse för hur grafisk design kan användas för attöka användbarheten på en webbplats.Undersökningen utgår från teoretiska studier som har testats mot verkligheten genomenkäter och intervjuer. Denna empiri analyserades sedan genom att den jämfördesmed den teoretiska undersökningen för att ta reda på hur webbdesigners arbetar tillskillnad mot teoretiska påståenden. Analysen gav oss sedan kunskap och förståelseför att kunna svara på huvudfrågan om hur grafisk design kan användas för att ökaanvändbarheten på en webbplats.Analysen har visat att teorier för grafisk design och användbarhet inte alltid följs tillpunkt och pricka av webbdesigners.

Part of branding is to create a visual appearance which is called a graphic profile and contains information on for instance a logo, colours or typography.The objective of this thesis was to create a graphic profile for Stjørdal Tannhelsesenter that could serve as a base for a brand work in the future. It was important to analyze how the clinic wants to be perceived and how it is perceived today. The methods used to carry out this study were questionnaires, researches and a focus group.The work resulted in the generation of a graphic profile that included a new logo, colours, decorative elements, fonts, templates for stationery, business card / badge, imagery, and examples of some publications.According to the test which was made to examine the results of the project showed that I was successful and that the new design meets all the requests from the previous questionnaires..

Denna rapport redogör för skapandet av varumärket Deco Retro. Samt den tillhörandedesignprocessen för att skapa en visuell identitet och profil för varumärket. VarumärketDeco Retro togs fram som ett undervarumärke till Kitsch Sweden AB som behövde ettvarumärke som passade deras nuvarande och framtida produkter. Deco Retro ska bidra meden stärkt identitet och värde för de produkter som ska säljas under varumärket. Designarbetetkring varumärket strävade framförallt efter att kommunicera den idé, identitet och de värdensom under projektet tagits fram för varumärket, samtidigt som det ska ha bidragit med enestetiskt tilltalande grafisk design.

Detta arbete tittar huvudsakligen på olika blockbaserade metoder för avståndsbedömning och tittar på möjligheter samt begränsningar då man använder sig av känd kunskap inom bildbehandling och stereoseende för avståndsbedömning. This report describes how a terminal for Telias Telesvar could be designed. Telesvar terminal will show in a display if anyone called you and show the incoming number. It will also play the spoken message in a built in speaker.
