What role does the state play in economic development? This thesis seeks to investigate the relationship between a strong state and economic development. To define the concept of a strong state I focus on the relationship between the scope of state functions and the efficiency of which these functions are implemented. The concept of a strong state is in this thesis defined as the efficiency of the state functions. By using a database constructed by three economists; David Kaufman, Aart Kraay and Massimo Mastruzzi as a measurement of a strong state I test the relationship with economic development empirically.

Vilket ansvar tillskrivs människor som bor på landsbygden att lösa de problem som finns där? Det är den frågeställning som står i fokus i denna kandidatuppsats i landsbygdsutveckling. Syftet är att undersöka hur detta ansvar beskrivs och motiveras politiskt snarare än att studera frågan ur ett moraliskt perspektiv. För att besvara frågeställningen görs en kritisk diskursanalys av texten Sveriges Landsbygdsprogram för 2007-2013. Analysen görs med fokus på hur programmet diskursivt skapar en politisk rationalitet för den förda politiken genom att undvika att sätta in den nuvarande situationen på landsbygden i ett ekonomiskt och politiskt historiskt perspektiv. Detta gör det möjligt för programmet att hänvisa människor på landsbygden till specifika subjektspositioner där de ges ett visst handlingsutrymme att påverka sin situation.

Bactiguard is a Swedish company within the field of medichal technology. The company has been very prosperous since it was founded in 2005 and was electedÅrets MedTechföretag 2008 ?MedTech Company of the year 2008. According to a definition by NUTEK, Bactiguard is still considered a minor company ? despite high market value and international expansion.

The study aimed to highlight workplace meetings´ benefit and what level of development. The study was done at a school in Lidköping and included two qualitative observations. Most of the groups´ members were women; one man was included in each group, and there was a mixed age structure of the meeting participants. The collection of data was then paired with the scientific literature and scientific articles. .. Our results demonstrate that group 1 spend 59% of the time on information and 41% of communication.

In contemporary global environmental governance stakeholding, as a means for defining legitimate participants in democratic decision-making, has become of great importance. In this essay I deploy the concept of ?the stakeholder perspective? to denote arguments that all stakeholders ? defined as carriers of particular interests ? should be able to participate in political decision-making affecting their interests. The purpose of the essay is to analyze the stakeholder perspective's potential to change environmental politics. Departing from the philosophy of Heidegger, I develop a theoretical approach that separate the concept of the political from that of politics.

Begreppet Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) syftar på det etiska ansvar företag bör ta för sin verksamhet, såväl inom den egna organisationen som i det omgivande samhället. Den frågeställning den här uppsatsen söker besvara gäller varför CSR blivit en allt viktigare del av företagens policy? Uppsatsens fokus ligger på globaliseringsteori och slutsatsen blir att förklaringarna till CSR kan delas in i såväl etiska och praktiska, som kosmopolitiska.

Due to globalization, decentralization and the capitalist system's need to physical location cities have become increasingly important economic spheres during thee last decades. City mayors are seen as increasingly important actors, who can shape the future economic development of their cities through networking with businesses and strategic policy development. Therefore several European countries have introduced mayor reforms to enable mayors to take a bigger responsibility for the local development. These reforms raise interesting questions concerning what leadership changes they produce at the local level and if there is a difference between local leaders and leadership in different countries. This paper further explores the connection between the local leader and the locality since this relationship often has been neglect in studies concerning mayor reforms.

Food insecurity is a great problem worldwide and Ethiopia is one of the sub-saharan countries that are suffering from poverty and food insecurity and a large part of the population are living in a state of undernourishment. To reduce these problems, a successful horticulture production can be an important factor. Compared to other crops, fruit production in Ethiopia has not been a large part of the agricultural sector. However, the demand on the domestic market is increasing as well as the production for avocado and mango. To increase food security it is important to focus on ways to decrease post-harvest losses of food products and not only have the productivity of agriculture in focus.

BakgrundUnder senare år har näringslivet fått uppleva flertalet skandaler inom företagsvärlden angående förtroendet för storföretagen, både internationellt och i Sverige. I och med dessa skandaler har också de flesta länder i Europa infört någon form av Corporate Governance eller bolagsstyrning som man säger i Sverige. För att marknaden skall få mer förtroende för näringslivet har Sverige infört en bolagskod som ska öka förtroendet för de svenska börsföretagen.SyfteUppsatsens syfte är att undersöka vad bolagskoden inneburit för förtroendet samt studera vad som påverkar förtroendet för det svenska näringslivet.MetodStudien grundar sig på en kvalitativ metod med utförda intervjuer på fyra grupper det vill säga revisorer, kapitalförvaltare, media och aktieanalytiker. Utifrån dessa intervjuer har uppsatsens primärdata samlats in vilket är kärnan i uppsatsen.ResultatStudien visar att enbart bolagskoden inte kan återställa förtroendet för svenskt näringsliv. Det krävs flera åtgärder för att stärka förtroendet, dock kan författarna konstatera att den svenska bolagskoden kan fungera som ett verktyg för att öka förtroendet.
