This thesis is intended to respond to the extent to which South African textbooks on the subject of history is linked to the governmental policy documents and whether they are producing and reproducing national identity. The two textbooks are aimed at students in grade 10. Both books were produced in 2008 but published by different publishers.The essay is based on Norman Faircloughs critical discourse theory which has been supplemented by Michael Billings theory Banal Nationalism, which assumes that it is the national words that remind us daily of our homeland that is producing and reproducing national identity.  The survey shows that both textbooks are closely tied to the government policy document for the teaching of history. The textbooks refer to the policy, both explicitly and implicitly. The two textbooks reproduce a common national identity in South Africa based on the discussions taking place in society.

We have gone from a city development characterized by spontaneousness, where commerce and people side by side shared the space, into a function-based planning where people and functions are being increasingly separated. Regardless the forms of planning the city design causes implications for those who live there when the physical environment controls were we live, work and meet. In today's society where `sustainability ' has become a watchword the current community planning needs to be questioned so we, in the best possible way, can meet future changes. Searching for new planning strategies is part of this and in this essay the term `mixed-use´ will be investigated and analyzed in terms of its social aspects.

This paper aims to broaden the discussion on how press freedom can be a powerful tool in the war on corruption. Previous studies have shown a significant relationship between more press freedom and less corruption, it also shows that the causal link runs from press freedom to corruption and not the other way around. There are quite a few studies on the impact of a free press on corruption and therefore there is a lot more to be published on this issue.This paper looks at press freedom as one of the most important parts of a democratic society and that it plays a vital role in reducing corruption as both an informant on key issues and also as a ?watchdog? on society. But press freedom cannot be seen as an ?easy fix? in a country or the international community's struggle to reduce corruption.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the term balanced collection in relation to Swedish laws and the democratic assignment. The Unesco Public Library Manifesto states that libraries are to formulate a policy defining objectives, priorities and services in relation to local community needs. The Swedish Libraries Act, paragraph 7, states that municipalities and counties shall adopt plans for library services. To fulfil our aim we will answer the following questions. By which terms is the democratic assignment visible in Swedish public libraries collection development policies? Is the term balanced collection used in Swedish public libraries collection development policies? If not, are there categories describing balanced collection? Do the terms in Swedish collection development policies differ to the six categories found by Farooq M.

Användandet av tekniska artefakter som verktyg i undervisningen har ökat drastiskt de senaste åren i Sverige. Trots det finns det få undersökningar om ursprungskällans perspektiv på den nya vardagen, det vill säga elevernas upplevelser. Studiens syfte är att undersöka på vilka sätt eleverna kommunicerar i Lillhagaskolan efter införandet av Apples iPad och en-till-en metoden, det vill säga en teknisk artefakt per elev i undervisningen, samt vilka sammanhang som formar kommunikationspraktikerna. För att undersöka området använde vi oss av en kvalitativ metod, genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med några utvalda elever i årskurs sju.Datainsamlingen från vår studie har sedan analyserats med hjälp av Wengers teori om socialt lärande det vill säga praktikgemenskap. Den beskriver relationerna mellan praktiker, sociala gemenskaper, meningsskapande och utvecklingen av identitet vilka anses vara grundläggande aspekter för lärande.

I denna studie har fokus legat på sociala insatsgrupper i fyra områden i Stockholms län. Sociala insatsgrupper är en strukturerad samverkan på individnivå mellan i första hand socialtjänst, polis och skola som syftar till att förhindra nyrekrytering av ungdomar till kriminella grupperingar samt underlätta avhopp från kriminella grupperingar. Studiens övergripande syfte är att undersöka hur samverkan mellan socialarbetare och poliser ser ut inom projektet sociala insatsgrupper. Studien fokuserar på socialarbetarnas och polisernas yrkesroller samt stöd- och kontrollaspekter. Studiens resultat visar att sociala insatsgrupper uppfattas som ett framgångsrikt projekt, men också att det råder ett spänningsförhållande mellan en behandlingslogik och en straffrättslig logik som polis och socialarbetare måste förhålla sig till i samverkan kring ungdomen.

The aim of this study was to examine how the Danish people and Denmark are represented in the daily Swedish press. We wanted to examine how the Danish people were represented, the characteristics given to the Danes and the differences we see between the different genres. We used theories about discourse, representation, stereotype and national community, too see what underlying messages was hidden in the texts. We analysed 30 texts from three Swedish daily newspapers: Sydsvenska Dagbladet Snällposten, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet. The method we used was discourse analysis based on Faircloughs theories and methods.One of the most interesting results we found was that the Danish people often were represented as different kinds of stereotypes.

I have worked with Bergum in different courses on the IntegratedConservation of Built Environments program and I thought it was a veryinteresting subject. This is the main reason why I chosen to write mybachelor paper about Bergum.In 1650s Bergum was situated on the border between Sweden and Norway,because of that it occurred some war conflicts.Today Bergum is a socioeconomic border and is situated in an areabetween the city?s concrete suburb and the countryside.The difference between the city?s concrete suburb and the countryside mayfeel like two different worlds, were the social contact is fractional.With this paper, I will indicate a countryside area on the boundary to the citythrough time and try to survey the building history. I will also try todemonstrate the socioeconomic differences between the areas.I will demonstrate Bergum history from prehistory to present time, were I willdiscuss the agriculture history, Vättlefjäll?s forest history and also thedeforestation and replanting.

När EU utvidgas att omfatta Polen och de tre Baltiska staterna kommer området att bli en enklav i EU. Den Postkommunistiska tiden har för Kaliningrad bland annat inneburit en ökande fattigdom, stigande arbetslöshet och en okontrollerad gränshandel, med omfattande smuggling som följd. Denna uppsats syfte är att undersöka åtta redan givna utvecklingslinjer för Kaliningrad, vilka beskrevs år 1996 av docent Jurij M. Swerew vid Kaliningrads Universitet vilka sammanförts till tre huvudalternativ: ryskt styre, transition och autonomi.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to describe and analyse the development of the public and the study circle libraries in the district of Kolbäck during the period of 1913-1954. The factors important for the library development described in sub-questions are: financing, locality, staffing, stock of books, book-lending level and uniting district effects. I use a hermeneutic interpretation model of interaction between the parts and the wholes, between reasons and results. This research leans mainly upon material which is sent to be deposited in archives in Hallstahammar, Västerås and Grängesberg.

I have studied literature to get theoretical background. I visited a seminar to get information and inspiration. Interviews have been done with six persons to get empirical information.      Result and conclusions: Through this study I have seen that social enterprises can co-operate to strengthen their position in the community. Together they can run issues they have in common, undertake major assignments and purchase material to get better deals.

Strengths were an educational tone and an insightful review of the newest findings in the scientific community. Weaknesses were poor transparency and a tendency to neglect full disclosure of the scientific findings and sources. Focus was also show to be on research and not on information for potential patients.

The purpose of this thesis is to systematically describe and map how authorities define the school library and its function based on the current policy documents for the Swedish upper secondary school. The study is guided by the following questions: ? What dimensions does the school library have according to the explicit definitions, descriptions and requirements? ? What implicit arguments, references and unspoken assumptions about the school library and its role, function and significance can be derived? The study is delimited to the national policy documents, which have been divided into two groups ? structural and teaching focused ? corresponding to the two questions above. Further delimitations have been made to avoid noise and to manage a manual content analysis. Each question required its own analysis tool.
