Abstract This master thesis is a result of the work thas was done for my entry in the international architectural competition Urban spaces and urban life in Ørestad South, that was announced by Ørestadselskabet on the 31st of October 2006. The project work lasted from early November until the deadline on 14th of February. In addition to the proposal that was handed in, the master thesis consists of a number of reflections about the work that was done and design work in general. The proposal is an answer to a not that evident task. One would expect that the assigment was clearly defined in the brief of the competition like this. And so it seems to do but to define the real assignment and join your own aims to it from such an extensive brief can be quite time consuming. Why do architects participate and what is an architectural competition? How does the brief affect the choices and statements made by the entrants? What is a square? What is the strategy that leads to a convincing concept? The role and use of a concept in the design process.

Studien syftar till att undersöka attityderna kring polygyni bland unga ogifta män i Gambia. Kvalitativa enskilda intervjuer har utförts på män i landets stadsområden, och svaren har sedan analyserats utifrån ett socialkonstruktivistiskt perspektiv. Resultatet påvisar att polygyni har många negativa aspekter och inte alltid är frivilligt, ens för männen. Det indikerar även att traditionen håller på att avta i landets urbana delar. Attityderna förändras och polygyni anses, av många, vara ett problem mer än ett privilegium.

Fördomar, konflikter och gruppindelningar yttrar sig på olika sätt i samhället. Dessa är svåra att undkomma men viktiga att belysa för att hitta sätt att reducera de problem de ofta medför. Syftet med denna studie har varit att ta reda på hur fördomar, konflikter och gruppindelningar kan yttra sig i skolan bland elever och påverka deras skolsituation. Vi vill även se vad skolan gör för att förebygga och lösa dessa problem samt hur deras arbete kan förbättras. Utifrån kvalitativa intervjuer drar vi slutsatsen att problem som uppstår på grund av fördomar, konflikter och gruppindelningar förekommer på de två skolorna vi undersökt men att dessa två skolor har olika sätt att angripa och hantera dessa problem.

ABB I-R Waterjet Systems combines the robotics and motion expertise of ABB Flexible Automation with high-pressure intensifier/pumping technology from Ingersoll-Rand to provide and continue to develop innovative waterjet cutting systems for global markets. The purpose of this assignment is to develop a process water purifier. The purifier should be applicable as an option to ABB I-R?s production cell Cutting-Box. At first hand the process water should be purified well enough to let out in the municipal sewage system, but the ultimate solution is purifying the process water to the range that recycling is possible. When investigating the different principle of purifying water, a research of different products and their manufactories was done. These different products were compared and the principle of filtration was the most applicable, as most of the products were designed for far larger applications. As the process water contains quite large amount of particles, it is necessary to perform the filtration in different steps. The process water purifier is therefore composed of a module of coarse filtration and one of micro filtration. In the module of coarse filtration the mainly amount of fibres and particles are eliminated. They are kept back in the container unit with the larger fragments and dumped with these when the container is emptied. In the module of micro filtration the filtration is performed in two steps. In the first step particles larger than 50?m are eliminated, in the second step the micro filter is setting the range of purifying, in this case 10?m.

Denna utvärdering av Umeå universitetsbiblioteks (UB) övergång till RFID-teknik (radio frequency identification) tar upp hur personalen har upplevt konverteringstiden och övergången. Syftet var att undersöka den involverade personalens åsikter och attityder kring omställningen och de eventuella konsekvenser och effekter som RFID-övergången fört med sig.Undersökningen genomfördes med korta uppsökande intervjuer vars frågor utformats i samråd med Umeå universitetsbiblioteks projektledare för RFID-konvertering. Frågorna resulterade i kvantitativa svar men respondenterna gavs möjlighet att utveckla sina svar med egna reflektioner. Av de totalt 17 respondenterna var nio män och åtta kvinnor i åldrarna 32-64 år. Resultaten visar på en till stora delar nöjd respondentgrupp, majoriteten tycker att övergången till RFID har fungerat bra, de flesta känner sig opåverkade i sin yrkesroll efter införandet och endast ett fåtal har lämnat konverteringstiden med några bestående men som drabbat deras arbete eller de själva. Bland respondenterna finns det en generellt positiv inställning till RFID-teknikens framtid på arbetsplatsen och ett flertal hoppas på en vidareutveckling och utbyggnad av tekniken..

Syftet med denna studie har varit att granska den forskning som fanns beskriven i vetenskaplig litteratur kring de problem sjuksköterskan har i omvårdnad om patienter från etniska minoriteter, samt hur man kan förbättra sjuksköterskans möjligheter att ge omvårdnad anpassad till denna patientgrupp. Metoden som användes var en litteraturstudie. Elva artiklar som valdes ut genom litteratur-sökning i databaser på internet med hjälp av för ämnet relevanta sökord ingick. Resultatet visade att det fanns åtskilliga problem för sjuksköterskan i omvårdnaden av patienter från främmande kulturer i form av problem med språk och kommunikation, kulturella hinder, problem och hinder relaterade till sjuksköterskan själv och till sjukvården och samhället. Studien visade att ett tidigare framtaget frågeformulär kunde användas vid inskrivning av patienten samt prioriterade insatser krävdes för att minska problem med den språkbarriär som är ett stort hinder.

The aim of this essay was to examine what kind of help and support social services departement can offer gamblers and their relatives. We also want to examine what the relatives to the gamblers think about the help and support they have got from the social services departement. Central questions we asked were: What kind of help and support can social services department offer the gamblers and there relatives? What kind of help is there to get for children respectively adult relatives? Do the relatives consider that the social worker have enough knowledge about the problem? Do the social workers consider that they have enough knowledge about the problem? This is a qualitative study of three women relatives to the gamblers, three social workers and one specialist in this problem. We have delimited the study to one big city in Sweden.

This master's theses was carried out on assignment from Stockholm Vatten AB as a part of a project developing new waste water treatment techniques. The goal of the theisis has been to evaluate an anaerobic membrane bioreactor for treatment of waste water from Hammarby Sjöstad. The bioreactor has not been heated and the main interest has been to study the gas production, power consumption and the reduction of organic matter and nutrients.The system has been completed with a reverse osmosis unit and a total of four batch runs have been made with good results. The use of reverse osmosis allows nutrient in the waste water to be reintroduced into circulation as the reverse osmosis concentrate can be used as crop nutrient.The membrane unit is of VSEP ("Vibratory Shear Enhanced Processing") type and an extensive membrane test has been conducted. This so called L-test helped determine the most suitable type of membrane for the system to allow a higher ±ux and thus lower power consumption.

Since the war ended in Bosnia and Herzegovina in1995 the country's economic and political crisies has grown dramatically. As in so many other Post-communist states the corruption has become a large problem for the whole society. The ethnic entities in which Bosnia is divided makes it possible for the national parties to operate and rule the same political propaganda that was the result of the war in the first place. However the international forces like the EU and the USA have made this kind of no non-centralised governmentship possible through the Dayton peace agreement, according to many experts this has to change in the constitution by any means possible if Bosnia will have a future. By the thesis of Professor Susan Rose-Ackerman the theoretical analysing tool should be followed for the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Rapportens inledning försöker sammanfatta vad år 2000 problemet är, vad man kan göra åt det och vilka effekter som kan uppkomma.Examensarbetet försöker besvara fyra övergripande frågeställningar:· Har Skaraborgs företag fått upp ögonen för år 2000 problemet?· Är det ett problem ?· Hur stora är företagens problem?· Vad gör dessa företag åt problemen?För att besvara dessa frågeställningar har en enkätundersökning utförts. Denna undersökning innefattade små, medelstora och stora företag samt offentlig sektor. Undersökningen visade att de flesta verksamheterna tagit problemet på allvar.

This essay deals with the diseases osteoporosis and osteoarthritis in a medieval population from Visby in Sweden. The aim has been to evaluate to what extent and in what way these diseases have influenced the people of a relatively large harbour town during the Middle Ages. 24 individuals were analysed osteologicaly and 19 of them became subject for measurements of bone density through DEXA readings. Furthermore four individuals were x-rayed based on external differences due to osteoarthritis and a change in the depression at the base of the medial surface of the greater trochanter. Similar studies have been made in Trondheim, Norway and Wharram Percy, Great Britain.

The aim of this study was to describe preferences of geographic direction of ten, oak-living epiphytic lichen species and how they responded to sun exposure, nearby bushes and trees, bark fissure depth and circumference. The frequency of every species was recorded in arcs of ten degrees around the tree at a height of 130 to 180 cm above the ground. An estimation of the amount of every species in every arc was also recorded. To analyse how the distribution of the lichen species responded to the different factors their concentration for every tree was plotted against the four factors. The distribution of Cliostomum corrugatum had a positive response to high sun exposure and a negative response to a thick layer of bushes and trees.

If you want your message to be successful you have to plan your communication and also evaluate the result. The administration of health and care in Karlstad had already planned and performed an information campaign, ?Vård & omsorg ? Mer än ett jobb? (translation ?Health & care ? More than a job?), and therefore we got the assignment to investigate the rate of success.The investigation is based on both theory and empiric.

This thesis studies if public libraries in Sweden have taken part ofinformation regarding the Swedish government policy that publicareas are to be made accessible by 2010. Also studied is thesignificance of information and resources on the execution ofaccessibility adaptations at public libraries.The analysis uses Lennart Lundquist?s theory of implementation ofpublic policies, that the person executing the policy needs tounderstand, be able to and want to in order for the policy to besuccessfully executed. The study was carried out through a surveyand the thesis focuses on the factors of understanding and beingable to.The survey was sent by email to all 290 municipal libraries inSweden with an answering frequency of 65%. The results arepresented in table format with explanations.The thesis finds that a clear majority of respondents have hadaccess to information about accessibility adaptations, but thatmuch fewer consider the information clear enough.

This study is about how to develop younger teens problem solving ability and their social competence. The study carried through by using a qualitative method, two observations and ten interviews. The observations where preparatory for the structured interviews. The respondents where pupils in a class were it is an ongoing project which purpose is to develop childrens problem solving ability and social skills with cognitive training and an empowerment based reasoning model that is called rahyab. Rahyab is a Persian word and it means path- finding.
