This report deals with the performance of a batch flow treatment of landfillleachate compared with a continuous flow system. The parameters in focus were total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), BOD5 and COD. The pilot-scale experiment used eight barrels with a volume of 150 liters. Each barrel was constructed differently concerning its flow, its bed material grain size and its presence of plants or not. Four of the barrels worked in batch mode, thus four in continuous flow mode.

The purpose of this study is to find out how four preschool teachers view children?s free playing and its impact on their learning. My main questions are:How do the teachers view the children?s free playing?In what ways does the children?s free playing affect their learning, according to the teachers?This essay is based on a qualitative study in which I have interviewed four female preschool teachers of different ages. I highlight various theories of children?s playing and learning in preschool, by theorists such as Vygotsky, Lillemyr, Knutsdotter Olofsson, Lindqvist, among others.

Syftet med föreliggande studie var att undersöka hur ryttare upplever Flow, och vidare även hur ryttare upplever samspelet inom ekipaget vid Flow. Studien inkluderade 10 kvinnliga informanter (M = 18.7, SD = 1.48) med tävlingserfarenhet som sträcker sig från ingen alls till internationell nivå (Hoppning= 4, Dressyr = 3, Fälttävlan = 2, Ingen tävling = 1). En semi-strukturerad intervjuguide utvecklades utifrån Csikszentmihalyi's holistiska perspektiv på de nio dimensionerna av Flow (Jackson & Csikszentmihalyi, 1999), och data analyserades kvalitativt genom en innehållsanalys. Resultatet visade både att ryttares upplevelse av Flow stämmer väl överens med andra idrottsutövares upplevelse (Swann, Keegan, Piggott och Crust, 2012), och bekräftar tidigare tolkningar av att ridsporten skiljer sig från de flesta andra idrotter genom att utfallet till stor del är beroende av interaktionen och samarbetet mellan häst och ryttare (Beauchamp & Whinton, 2005). The purpose of this thesis is to examine and analyze how to improve the design of a Microsoft Surface SUR40 application. The application in focus was an interactive product browser developed by the company Spree, our external client. Spree is a multi-touch software provider, established in September 2010 and they expressed a need for suggestions for how to improve this application. Our work aimed at revealing how to make the application more suitable for several users and make it easier for them to interact simultaneously on the surface. From a qualitative standpoint we have examined how 17 users experienced the application.

In this thesis I based on Fowler?s method of syntax analysis construct a flow scheme which I then use to make a syntax analysis of former State Secretary Lars Danielsson?s statements, in his autobiography, regarding his responsibility in the Swedish government?s management of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. The focus of the flow scheme is how grammatical constructions can be used in the interest of rhetoric?s to on the syntax (non-explicit) level of the text indicate and place responsibility with or outside of involved individuals. The main conclusion of the syntax analysis performed is that Danielsson in his autobiography in fact does not use very many of the constructions described in the flow scheme, whereby it can be concluded that the syntax analysis in this case wasn?t so ?revealing?.

During the past few years a vast amount of research has been done to increase the understanding of the complex ecosystem of the Baltic Sea. Modelling and simulations are important tools to increase knowledge of the system. A suitable model must be simple to use and the parameters and variables needed in the model must be easy to access.In this paper a dynamical mass-balance model, CoastMab, which is validated for smaller coastal areas, has been used to predict concentrations and transports of phosphorus in three large coastal areas - the Gulf of Finland, the Gulf of Gdansk and the Gulf of Riga. CoastMab uses ordinary differential equations to regulate inflow, outflow and internal flows. To reflect seasonal variations in temperature and different types of flows the model has a temporal resolution of a month.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur elever i en vanlig svensk mellanstadieklassupplever flow i sitt lärande och vilka faktorer som påverkar upplevelsen av flow.För studien valdes en kvalitativ metod i form av enskilda intervjuer. Tre pojkar och treflickor i en klass 4 på mellanstadiet fick berätta vilket deras favoritämne var, och sedanbesvara frågor om hur de upplevde sitt favoritämne och hur de upplevde de övrigaämnena. Frågorna var skapade utifrån de olika faktorerna som påverkar flow enligtMihaly Csíkszentmihályis flowteori (Csíkszentmihályi, 1993).Resultatet av min undersökning visar att eleverna som intervjuades upplever flow iskolan, och då mest i favoritämnet. Det finns även exempel på motsatsen där entusiasmoch flow saknats i skolarbetet. Faktorer som har betydelse för att flow ska uppkomma ärbland annat rätt svårighetsgrad på uppgiften så att utmaningen anpassas efter individen,rätt tid och arbetstakt för genomförandet av uppgiften, möjlighet till medbestämmandeoch inflytande för den som utför uppgiften samt eliminerandet av störmoment underarbetet med uppgiften.Undersökningens resultat visar att flow har betydelse för elevens motivation och iförlängningen sannolikt också för elevens lärande.

The aim of this study is to increase knowledge and understanding of free play or free fun time importance for children of age around five years in preschool, in order to promote children?s development and learning. The focus was on exploring and better understanding of teacher?s and educators? approach to the free fun play time as a tool in their educational work, and also about their own role in this context as well as analyzing of forms, rules and structures spontaneously created by groups of children having free play fun time. Another important moment of this study was to give more light on approaches to this issue in education theories by Piaget, Vygotsky and Freud among others.As to the practical experimental part of the study it has been performed at a preschool and kindergarten in a suburb at the outskirts of Stockholm, with four employed educators there and with groups of children of age around five.

Syftet med denna studie har varit att undersöka relevansen i tre olika teorier som förklarar hur Flow kan upplevas på en arbetsplats. Teorierna är skapade efter forskning från Csikzentmihaly, Hofstede samt Maslow. Undersökningen har skett på två olika arbetsplatser inom två olika yrkesgrenar för att finna om eventuella skillnader mellan dessa två arbetskontext kan påverka upplevelsen av Flow. Det ena företaget kategoriseras som en affärsmiljö och det andra företaget rubriceras som en kontorsmiljö. Tre hypoteser skapades som var för sig testade de tre teoriernas effekt på Flow.

Slopes in fine till soils are exposed to surface erosion due to rainfall, snowmelt and upland water sources. Large areas of road slopes are therefore covered for surface erosion protection. Preventive methods like ditches and trenches are also being used. Silt tills are particularly troublesome since the water can bring the soil into suspension and cause mudslides. Different methods for erosion protection have been studied in this work, with the emphasis placed on rockfill covering. The need for and the dimensioning of this type of covering has been examined in literature and field studies.

Detta arbete har utförts för att undersöka frågeställningen ?Hur bör ett dataspels tutorial designas för att spelaren ska lära sig samtidigt som den främjar uppkomsten av flow??. För att besvara detta har teorier inom pedagogik, lärande av spel, användbarhet och flow samt mer generella teorier kring spel studerats för att skapa en teoribildning inom området. För att testa detta har ett spel med två olika tutorials skapats. Detta spel har sedan använts för att, med hjälp av två testgrupper, samla data om hur spelare lär sig samt deras flowupplevelse.

The surface finishing technique called black oxidation is currently being used on thetool holders made of low alloyed tool steel produced by Sandvik Coromant. Blackoxidation isn?t considered a sufficient technique because it doesn?t make the toolholders look like the quality products that they actually are. The reasoning behind thisis that the tool holders can show signs of corrosion after prolonged storing times orin countries with high humidity and temperature. The corrosion doesn?t decrease thetool holders performance, but the customers might believe otherwise.

Individual cellulose ?bers were studied to identify the transport and absorbtion phenomena as well as the in?uence of drying. A Chalmers University of Technologydeveloped method within ESEM (Enviromental Scanning Electron Microscope) has been used in this study. The results from the laborations gave the following conclu-sions: The transport of water occurs in ?bers in the ?ber wall surface and the lumen.

Detta arbete syftar till att undersöka hur Csikszentmihalyis teorier kring optimala upplevelser, eller flow-upplevelser, kan appliceras på praktisk speldesign. I arbetet kombineras Csikszentmihalyis definition av begreppet flow med Jenova Chens riktlinjer för flow-uppmuntrande design i singleplayerspel för att ge underlag för framtagandet av ett brädspel i vilket applicerbarheten hos deras teorier och riktlinjer på multiplayerspel undersökts. För att teorierna och riktlinjerna effektivt skulle kunna undersökas utvecklades det tre olika versioner av brädspelet som alla innehåller olika element som, enligt Csikszentmihaly och Chen, bör alstra flow. Ett flertal spelgrupper fick spela dessa tre versioner och via enkätundersökningar och intervjuer förmedla hur de upplevde de olika versionerna, både som individuella produkter och i jämförelse med varandra. De data som erhålldes från dessa undersökningar indikerade på att nivån av kontroll spelaren har över sin spelsituation spelar en väldigt avgörande roll i hur han eller hon upplever spelaktiviteten i sin helhet..
