This diploma work was performed at the department for radiation physics at the Health University in Linköping. Its aim was to develop a method to retrospectively quantify the absorbed dose in coral. Coral is a material which suites well as a retrospective dosimeter because when exposed to radioactivity its induced free radicals are stable in time. The number of radicals is proportional to the accumulated dose so the dose can be calculated by quantifying the radicals. Therefore, coral can tell us something about the past environment and also be used in dating purposes.A young, modern coral from the Red Sea was studied and also a fossil one which I was given from the Natural History Museum in Stockholm.

Causes of thrombocytopenia in dogs ? a retrospective study of 123 cases The purpose of this retrospective case study was to determine which diseases are associated with thrombocytopenia in Swedish dogs. Records of 123 dogs with thrombocytopenia were evaluated. The most common cause was neoplasia-associated thrombocytopenia (32%). The largest proportion within this group was unspecified neoplasia.

Therefore the work with propagating vibrations is of outmost importance, and that is what this thesis relates to.To get a sensible idea of the propagation, calculation models are often used. Propagation calculation models takes into account factors such as distance to the railway, the ground material and the velocity and weight of the train. This work is mainly about finding suitable existing models and, if necessary, adjust them to be more useful with modern trains and railways.The report contains the work of adjusting one such model and does, despite the fully functional adjusted model, describe how much more there can be done within this topic. Methadone is frequently used as an analgesic drug for dogs although there are very few studies describing the pharmacokinetics of methadone in this species. In man methadone has a long half-life and there are considerable differences in pharmacokinetics between individuals. The dose interval is lengthened when the drug is used fore longer periods of time due to prolonged half-life. Therefore the drug dose must be adjusted individually. The purpose of this study was to study the fundamental pharmacokinetics of methadone in dogs, and to find an optimal drug dosage.

Vid immobilisering av frilevande trubbnoshörningar används uteslutande kemisk immobilisering. De olika immobiliseringsmetoderna innebär olika risker för impalan; att söva ett djur är alltid ett riskmoment men även stress framkallad av jakt och hantering kan ge patologiska förändringar som kan leda till döden. På både impala och noshörning utförs kemisk immobilisering med hjälp av olika typer av opioider, antingen en opioid ensam eller i kombination med andra läkemedel. Opioider ger både bra anestesi och analgesi, men kan medföra även oönskade effekter såsom excitering, hypoxi, respiratorisk depression, eller acidos.

Abortion during late gestation is often caused by placental dysfunction such as placentitis. To prevent this from happening the placenta can be monitored pre partum so treatment can be started at an early stage. Methods for monitoring the placenta include hormonal monitoring, presence of clinical signs of placental dysfunction and ultrasonographic evaluation of the fetus and the placenta. Transrectal ultrasonography provides a very good image of the caudal portion of the allantochorion where an ascending placentitis normally establishes. An increased combined thickness of the uterus and the placenta, CTUP, has been associated with placental failure. This study included ten Swedish standardbred trotter mares in late gestation. They were monitored by transrectal ultrasonography of the placenta two times with approximately a month in between. CTUP was measured on each examination.

America finds itself divided in the midst of strict abortion laws and a contentious presidential election. This era of polarization, raises the question of whether such a great division has permeated through to the U.S Supreme Court. This paper uses two dominant theories of legitimacy; traditional and ideological, respectively, to analyze and compare this issue. The theories are compared empirically by investigating the level of public trust across opposing political affiliations. Unlike most previous research, the results suggest that variation in trust aligns with the ideological distance to the Court between democratic and republican voters. Trust is also found to be dependent on whether the electorate agrees with the decisions of the court or not.

Abort som orsakas av virus förekommer hos hästar över hela världen, och skapar problem för uppfödare. De främsta bakomliggande virusen är ekvint herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) och ekvint arterit virus (EAV). Fall inträffar tillföljd av båda virusen varje år i Sverige, och framförallt EHV-1 har varit föremål för mycket forskning för att hitta ett skyddande vaccin. Det finns i Sverige ett avdödat vaccin mot EHV-1 upptaget i FASS. EAV däremot vaccineras det i princip inte mot i landet, men utomlands finns och används i vissa länder både avdödade och attenuerade levande vaccin.

En av fyra kvinnor beräknades få missfall innan de fyllt 39 år. Ett missfall kan leda till ångest, depression, ilska och förvirring, vilket ger ett upphov till hjälp och stöd för att kunna hantera känslorna, dels från anhöriga och dels från vårdpersonal. Syftet med studien var att belysa kvinnors livsvärld i samband med missfall. Litteraturstudien baserades på åtta vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativ ansats. Artiklarna bearbetades med induktiv innehållsanalys.
